1 Comfort{+}, comfort{+} my people, says your{+} God.2 Speak{+} comfortably to Jerusalem; and cry to her, that her warfare is accomplished, that her iniquity is pardoned, that she has received of Yahweh's hand double for all her sins.3 The voice of one who cries, Prepare{+} in the wilderness the way of Yahweh; make level in the desert a highway for our God.4 Every valley will be exalted, and every mountain and hill will be made low; and the uneven will be made level, and the rough places a plain:5 and the glory of Yahweh will be revealed, and all flesh will see it together; for the mouth of Yahweh has spoken it.6 The voice of one saying, Cry. And one said, What shall I cry? All flesh is grass, and all its goodliness is as the flower of the field.7 The grass withers, the flower fades, because the breath of Yahweh blows on it; surely the people are grass.8 The grass withers, the flower fades; but the word of our God will stand forever.9 O you who tell good news to Zion, get yourself up on a high mountain; O you who tell good news to Jerusalem, lift up your voice with strength; lift it up, don't be afraid; say to the cities of Judah, Look, your{+} God!10 Look, the Sovereign Yahweh will come as a mighty one, and his arm will rule for him: Look, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him.11 Like a shepherd, he will shepherd his flock; he will gather the lambs in his arm, and carry them in his bosom; [and] will gently lead those that have their young.12 Who has measured the waters in the hollow of his hand, and meted out heaven with the span, and comprehended the dust of the earth in a measure, and weighed the mountains in scales, and the hills in a balance?13 Who has directed the Spirit of Yahweh, or being his counselor has taught him?14 With whom did he take counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of justice, and taught him knowledge, and showed to him the way of understanding?15 Look, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are accounted as the small dust of the balance: Look, he takes up the isles as a very little thing.16 And Lebanon is not sufficient to burn, nor its beasts sufficient for a burnt-offering.17 All the nations are as nothing before him; they are accounted by him as less than nothing, and vanity.18 To whom then will you{+} liken God? Or what likeness will you{+} compare to him?19 The image, a workman has cast [it], and the goldsmith overlays it with gold, and casts [for it] silver chains.20 He who is too impoverished for [such] an oblation chooses a tree that will not rot; he seeks to him a skillful workman to set up a graven image, that will not be moved.21 Have you{+} not known? Have you{+} not heard? Has it not been told to you{+} from the beginning? Have you{+} not understood from the foundations of the earth?22 [It is] he who sits above the circle of the earth, and its inhabitants are as grasshoppers; who stretches out the heavens as a curtain, and spreads them out as a tent to dwell in;23 who brings princes to nothing; who makes the judges of the earth as vanity.24 Yes, they have not been planted; yes, they have not been sown; yes, their stock has not taken root in the earth: moreover he blows on them, and they wither, and the whirlwind takes them away as stubble.25 To whom then will you{+} liken me, that I should be equal [to him]? says the Holy One.26 Lift up your{+} eyes on high, and see who has created these, that brings out their host by number; he calls them all by name; by the greatness of his might, and for that he is strong in power, not one is lacking.27 Why do you say, O Jacob, and speak, O Israel, My way is hid from Yahweh, and the justice [due] to me has passed away from my God?28 Haven't you known? Haven't you heard? The everlasting God, Yahweh, the Creator of the ends of the earth, does not faint, neither is weary; there is no searching of his understanding.29 He gives power to the faint; and to him who has no might he increases strength.30 Even the youths will faint and be weary, and the young men will completely fall:31 but those who wait for Yahweh will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings as eagles; they will run, and not be weary; they will walk, and not faint.

1 Consolem, consolem o meu povo, diz o Deus de vocês.2 Encoragem a Jerusalém e anunciem que ela já cumpriu o trabalho que lhe foi imposto, pagou por sua iniqüidade, e recebeu da mão do Senhor em dobro por todos os seus pecados.3 Uma voz clama: "No deserto preparem o caminho para o Senhor; façam no deserto um caminho reto para o nosso Deus.4 Todos os vales serão levantados, todos os montes e colinas serão aplanados; os terrenos acidentados se tornarão planos; as escarpas, serão niveladas.5 A glória do Senhor será revelada, e, juntos, todos a verão. Pois é o Senhor quem fala".6 Uma voz ordena: "Clame". E eu pergunto: "O que clamarei? " "Que toda a humanidade é como a relva, e toda a sua glória como as flores do campo.7 A relva murcha e cai a sua flor, quando o vento do Senhor sopra sobre eles; o povo não passa de relva.8 A relva murcha, e as flores caem, mas a palavra de nosso Deus permanece para sempre. "9 Você, que traz boas novas a Sião, suba num alto monte. Você, que traz boas novas a Jerusalém, erga a sua voz com fortes gritos, erga-a, não tenha medo; diga às cidades de Judá: "Aqui está o seu Deus! "10 O Soberano Senhor vem com poder! Com seu braço forte ele governa. A sua recompensa com ele está, e seu galardão o acompanha.11 Como pastor ele cuida de seu rebanho, com o braço ajunta os cordeiros e os carrega no colo; conduz com cuidado as ovelhas que amamentas suas crias.12 Quem mediu as águas na concha da mão, ou com o palmo definiu os limites dos céus? Quem jamais calculou o peso da terra, ou pesou os montes na balança e as colinas nos seus pratos?13 Quem definiu limites para o Espírito do Senhor, ou o instruiu como seu conselheiro?14 A quem o Senhor consultou que pudesse esclarecê-lo, e que lhe ensinasse a julgar com justiça? Quem lhe ensinou o conhecimento ou lhe aponta o caminho da sabedoria?15 Na verdade as nações são como a gota que sobra do balde; para ele são como o pó que resta na balança; para ele as ilhas não passam de um grão de areia.16 Nem as florestas do Líbano seriam suficientes para o fogo do altar, nem os animais de lá bastariam para o holocausto.17 Diante dele todas as nações são como nada; para ele são sem valor e menos que nada.18 A quem vocês compararão Deus? Como poderão representá-lo?19 Com uma imagem que funde o artesão, e que o ourives cobre de ouro e lhe modela correntes de prata?20 Ou com o ídolo do pobre que pode apenas escolher um bom pedaço de madeira e procurar um marceneiro para fazer uma imagem que não caia?21 Será que vocês não sabem? Nunca ouviram falar? Não lhes contaram desde a antigüidade? Vocês não compreenderam como a terra foi fundada?22 Ele se assenta no seu trono, acima da cúpula da terra, cujos habitantes são pequenos como gafanhotos. Ele estende os céus como um forro, e os arma como uma tenda para neles habitar.23 Ele aniquila os príncipes e reduz a nada os juízes deste mundo.24 Mal eles são plantados ou semeados, mal lançam raízes na terra, Deus sopra sobre eles, e eles murcham; um redemoinho os leva como palha.25 "Com quem vocês me compararão? Quem se assemelha a mim? ", pergunta o Santo.26 Ergam os olhos e olhem para as alturas. Quem criou tudo isso? Aquele que põe em marcha cada estrela do seu exército celestial, e a todas chama pelo nome. Tão grande é o seu poder e tão imensa a sua força, que nenhuma delas deixa de comparecer!27 Por que você reclama, ó Jacó, e por que se queixa, ó Israel: "O Senhor não se interessa pela minha situação; o meu Deus não considera a minha causa"?28 Será que você não sabe? Nunca ouviu falar? O Senhor é o Deus eterno, o Criador de toda a terra. Ele não se cansa nem fica exausto, sua sabedoria é insondável.29 Ele fortalece ao cansado e dá grande vigor ao que está sem forças.30 Até os jovens se cansam e ficam exaustos, e os moços tropeçam e caem;31 mas aqueles que esperam no Senhor renovam as suas forças. Voam bem alto como águias; correm e não ficam exaustos, andam e não se cansam.
