1 Yet hear now, O Jacob my slave, and Israel, who I have chosen:2 Thus says Yahweh who made you, and formed you from the womb, who will help you: Don't be afraid, O Jacob my slave; and you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen.3 For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, and streams on the dry ground; I will pour my Spirit on your seed, and my blessing on your offspring:4 and they will spring up among the grass, as willows by the watercourses.5 One will say, I am Yahweh's; and another will call the name of Jacob; and another will write with his hand, For Yahweh, and will name the name of Israel.6 Thus says Yahweh, the King of Israel, and his Redeemer, Yahweh of hosts: I am the first, and I am the last; and besides me there is no God.7 And who is like me? Let him call and declare it, and set it in order for me, since my establishing the ancient people. And let them declare the things that are coming, and that will come to pass, to [those among] them.8 Don't be{+} afraid, neither be scared: Have I not declared to you of old, and shown it? And you{+} are my witnesses. Is there a God besides me? Yes, there is no Rock; I don't know any.9 Those who fashion a graven image are all of them vanity; and the things that they delight in will not profit; and their own witnesses don't see, nor know: that they may be put to shame.10 Who has fashioned a god, or molten an image that is profitable for nothing?11 Look, all his partners will be put to shame; and the workmen, they are of man: let them all be gathered together, let them stand up; they will fear, they will be put to shame together.12 The blacksmith [makes] an ax, and works in the coals, and fashions it with hammers, and works it with his strong arm: yes, he is hungry, and his strength fails; he drinks no water, and is faint.13 The carpenter stretches out a line; he marks it out with a pencil; he shapes it with planes, and he marks it out with the compasses, and shapes it after the figure of a man, according to the beauty of man, to dwell in a house.14 He cuts down cedars, and takes the holm-tree and the oak, and strengthens for himself one among the trees of the forest: he plants a fir-tree, and the rain nourishes it.15 Then it will be for man to burn; and he takes of it, and warms himself; yes, he kindles it, and bakes bread: yes, he makes a god, and worships it; he makes it a graven image, and falls down to it.16 He burns part of it in the fire; with part of it he eats flesh; he roasts roast, and is satisfied; yes, he warms himself, and says, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire.17 And its residue he makes a god, even his graven image; he falls down to it and worships, and prays to it, and says, Deliver me; for you are my god.18 They don't know, neither do they consider: for he has shut their eyes, that they can't see; and their hearts, that they can't understand.19 And none calls to mind, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yes, I have also baked bread on its coals; I have roasted flesh and eaten it: and shall I make its residue [into] a disgusting thing? Shall I fall down to a piece of wood?20 He feeds on ashes; a deceived heart has turned him aside; and he can't deliver his soul, nor say, Is there not a lie in my right hand?21 Remember these things, O Jacob, and Israel; for you are my slave: I have formed you; you are my slave: O Israel, you will not be forgotten of me.22 I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, your transgressions, and, as a cloud, your sins: return to me; for I have redeemed you.23 Sing, O you{+} heavens, for Yahweh has done it; shout, you{+} lower parts of the earth; break forth into singing, you{+} mountains, O forest, and every tree in it: for Yahweh has redeemed Jacob, and will glorify himself in Israel.24 Thus says Yahweh, your Redeemer, and he who formed you from the womb: I am Yahweh, who makes all things; who stretches forth the heavens alone; who spreads abroad the earth (who is with me?);25 who frustrates the signs of the liars, and makes fortune-tellers insane; who turns wise men backward, and makes their knowledge foolish;26 who confirms the word of his slave, and performs the counsel of his messengers; who says of Jerusalem, She will be inhabited; and of the cities of Judah, They will be built, and I will raise up their waste places;27 who says to the deep, Be dry, and I will dry up your rivers;28 who says of Cyrus, [He is] my shepherd, and will perform all my pleasure, even saying of Jerusalem, She will be built; and of the temple, Your foundation will be laid.

1 "Mas escute agora, Jacó, meu servo, Israel, a quem escolhi.2 Assim diz o Senhor, aquele que o fez, que o formou no ventre, e que o ajudará: Não tenha medo, ó Jacó, meu servo, Jesurum, a quem escolhi.3 Pois derramarei água na terra sedenta, e torrentes na terra seca; derramarei meu Espírito sobre sua prole, e minha bênção sobre seus descendentes.4 Eles brotarão como relva nova, como salgueiros junto a regatos.5 Um dirá: "Pertenço ao Senhor"; outro chamará a si mesmo pelo nome de Jacó; ainda outro escreverá em sua mão: "Do Senhor", e tomará para si o nome Israel. "6 "Assim diz o Senhor, o rei de Israel, o seu redentor, o Senhor dos Exércitos: Eu sou o primeiro e eu sou o último; além de mim não há Deus.7 Quem então é como eu? Que ele o anuncie, que ele declare e exponha diante de mim o que aconteceu desde que estabeleci meu antigo povo, e o que ainda está para vir; que todos eles predigam as coisas futuras e o que irá acontecer.8 Não tremam, nem tenham medo. Não anunciei isto e não o predisse muito tempo atrás? Vocês são minhas testemunhas. Há outro Deus além de mim? Não, não existe nenhuma outra Rocha; não conheço nenhuma. "9 Todos os que fazem imagens nada são, e as coisas que estimam são sem valor. As suas testemunhas nada vêem e nada sabem, para que sejam envergonhados.10 Quem é que modela um deus e funde uma imagem, que de nada lhe serve?11 Todos seus companheiros serão envergonhados; pois os artesãos não passam de homens. Que todos eles se ajuntem e declarem sua posição; eles serão lançados ao pavor e à vergonha.12 O ferreiro apanha uma ferramenta e trabalha com ela nas brasas; modela um ídolo com martelos, forja-o com a força do braço. Ele sente fome e perde a força; passa sede e desfalece.13 O carpinteiro mede a madeira com uma linha e faz um esboço com um traçador; ele o modela toscamente com formões e o marca com compassos. Ele o faz na forma de homem, de homem em toda a sua beleza, para que habite num santuário.14 Ele derruba cedros, ou talvez apanhe um cipreste, ou ainda um carvalho. Ele o deixou crescer entre as árvores da floresta, ou plantou um pinheiro, e a chuva o fez crescer.15 É combustível usado para queimar; um pouco disso ele apanha e se aquece, acende um fogo e assa um pão. Mas também modela um deus e o adora; faz uma imagem e se encurva diante dela.16 Metade da madeira, ele a queima no fogo; sobre ela ele prepara sua refeição, assa a carne e come sua porção. Ele também se aquece e diz: "Ah! Estou aquecido; estou vendo o fogo".17 Do restante ele faz um deus, seu ídolo; inclina-se diante dele e o adora. Ora a ele e diz: "Salva-me; tu és meu deus".18 Eles nada sabem, nada entendem; seus olhos estão tapados, não conseguem ver, e suas mentes estão fechadas, não conseguem entender.19 Ninguém pára para pensar, ninguém tem o conhecimento ou o entendimento para dizer: "Metade dela usei como combustível; até mesmo assei pão sobre suas brasas, assei carne e comi. Faria eu algo repugnante com o que sobrou? Iria eu ajoelhar-me diante de um pedaço de madeira? "20 Ele se alimenta de cinzas, um coração iludido o desvia; ele é incapaz de salvar a si mesmo ou de dizer: "Esta coisa na minha mão direita não é uma mentira? "21 "Lembre-se disso, ó Jacó, pois você é meu servo, ó Israel. Eu o fiz, você é meu servo; ó Israel, eu não o esquecerei.22 Como se fossem uma nuvem, varri para longe suas ofensas; como se fossem a neblina da manhã, os seus pecados. Volte para mim, pois eu o resgatei. "23 Cantem de alegria, ó céus, pois o Senhor fez isto; grite bem alto, ó profundezas da terra. Irrompam em canção, vocês, montes, vocês, florestas e todas as suas árvores, pois o Senhor resgatou Jacó, ele mostra sua glória em Israel.24 "Assim diz o Senhor, o seu redentor, que o formou no ventre: Eu sou o Senhor, que fiz todas as coisas, que sozinho estendi os céus, que espalhei a terra por mim mesmo,25 que atrapalha os sinais de falsos profetas e faz de tolos os adivinhadores, que derruba o conhecimento dos sábios e o transforma em loucura,26 que executa as palavras de seus servos e cumpre as predições de seus mensageiros, que diz acerca de Jerusalém: ‘Ela será habitada’, e das cidades de Judá: ‘Elas serão construídas’, e de suas ruínas: ‘Eu as restaurarei’,27 que diz às profundezas aquáticas: ‘Sequem-se, e eu secarei seus regatos’,28 que diz acerca de Ciro: ‘Ele é meu pastor, e realizará tudo o que me agrada; ele dirá acerca de Jerusalém: "Seja reconstruída", e do templo: "Sejam lançados os seus alicerces" ’.
