1 Um renovo sairá do tronco de Jessé, e um rebento brotará de suas raízes.2 Sobre ele repousará o Espírito do Senhor, Espírito de sabedoria e de entendimento, Espírito de prudência e de coragem, Espírito de ciência e de temor ao Senhor.3 {Sua alegria se encontrará no temor ao Senhor.} Ele não julgará pelas aparências, e não decidirá pelo que ouvir dizer;4 mas julgará os fracos com eqüidade, fará justiça aos pobres da terra, ferirá o homem impetuoso com uma sentença de sua boca, e com o sopro dos seus lábios fará morrer o ímpio.5 A justiça será como o cinto de seus rins, e a lealdade circundará seus flancos.6 Então o lobo será hóspede do cordeiro, a pantera se deitará ao pé do cabrito, o touro e o leão comerão juntos, e um menino pequeno os conduzirá;7 a vaca e o urso se fraternizarão, suas crias repousarão juntas, e o leão comerá palha com o boi.8 A criança de peito brincará junto à toca da víbora, e o menino desmamado meterá a mão na caverna da áspide.9 Não se fará mal nem dano em todo o meu santo monte, porque a terra estará cheia de ciência do Senhor, assim como as águas recobrem o fundo do mar.10 Naquele tempo, o rebento de Jessé, posto como estandarte para os povos, será procurado pelas nações e gloriosa será a sua morada.11 Naquele tempo, o Senhor levantará de novo a mão para resgatar o resto de seu povo, os sobreviventes da Assíria e do Egito {de Patros, da Etiópia, de Elão, de Senaar, de Emat e das ilhas do mar}.12 Levantará o seu estandarte entre as nações, reunirá os exilados de Israel, e recolherá os dispersos de Judá dos quatro cantos da terra.13 A inveja de Efraim abrandar-se-á, e os inimigos de Judá se desvanecerão. {Efraim não mais invejará Judá, e Judá não será mais inimigo de Efraim.}14 Eles voarão para o lado dos filisteus ao Ocidente e, juntos, saquearão os filhos do Oriente. Estenderão a mão sobre a Iduméia e Moab, e os amonitas lhes serão submissos.15 Assim como o Senhor pôs a seco o braço de mar do Egito, com seu sopro ardente, ele estenderá a mão sobre o rio e o dividirá em sete braços, de sorte que se poderá atravessar a vau.16 O caminho se abrirá para o resto de seu povo que escapar da Assíria, como se abriu para Israel no tempo em que ele saiu da terra do Egito.

1 And there shall come forth a shoot out of the stem of Jesse, and a sprout shall spring out of his roots.2 And there shall rest upon him the spirit of the Lord, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord;3 And he shall be animated by the fear of the Lord; and not after the sight of his eyes shall he judge, and not after the hearing of his ears shall he decide;4 But he shall judge with righteousness the poor, and decide with equity for the suffering ones of the earth; and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.5 And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his hips.6 And the wolf shall dwell with the sheep, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling shall be together, and a little boy shall lead them.7 And the cow and the she–bear shall feed, together shall their young ones lie down: and the lion shall like the ox eat straw.8 And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and on the basilisk’s den shall the weaned child stretch out his hand.9 They shall not do hurt nor destroy on all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.10 And it shall happen on that day, that he of the root of Jesse, who shall stand as an ensign of the people, to him shall nations come to inquire: and his resting–place shall be glorious.11 And it shall happen on that day, that the Lord will put forth his hand again the second time to acquire the remnant of his people, which shall remain, from Asshur and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from ‘Elam, and from Shin’ar, and from Chamath, and from the islands of the sea.12 And he will lift up an ensign unto the nations, and will assemble the outcasts of Israel; and the dispersed of Judah will he collect together from the four corners of the earth.13 And then shall depart the envy of Ephraim, and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off: Ephraim shall not envy Judah, and Judah shall not assail Ephraim.14 But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west; together shall they spoil the children of the east: upon Edom and Moab shall they lay their hands; and the children of ‘Ammon shall obey them.15 And the Lord will destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea; and swing his hand over the river with his mighty wind, and will smite it into seven streams, and render it passable with shoes.16 And there shall be a highway for the remnant of his people, which shall remain from Asshur, like as it was to Israel on the day that they came up out of the land of Egypt.
