1 E o Senhor disse-me: Toma uma grande placa e escreve nela em caracteres legíveis: Maer-chalal-hach-baz. {Toma depressa os despojos, faze velozmente a presa}.2 Tomai por testemunhas fidedignas o sacerdote Urias e Zacarias, filho de Jeberequias.3 Eu me aproximei da profetisa, que concebeu e deu à luz um filho. {Então} o Senhor me disse Chama-o Maer-Chalal-hach-baz,4 porque antes que o menino saiba dizer: papai, mamãe, as riquezas de Damasco e os despojos de Samaria serão carregados diante do rei da Assíria.5 O Senhor disse-me ainda:6 Porque este povo rejeitou as águas tranqüilas de Siloé, e perdeu o domínio diante de Rasin e do filho de Romelia,7 o Senhor fará cair sobre ele as águas do rio, abundantes e impetuosas {o rei da Assíria com todo o seu poder}; subirá por toda parte pelas suas ribanceiras, transbordará por todas as suas margens,8 invadirá Judá, inundá-lo-á e o submergirá, e subirá até o pescoço. Com suas asas desdobradas cobrirá toda a terra, ó Emanuel!9 Aprendei-o, povos, e ficareis consternados. Ouvi com atenção, terras longínquas. Podeis pegar em armas e sereis destruídos;10 preparai um plano, e ele malogrará; dai ordens e elas não serão executadas, porque Deus está conosco.11 Porque eis o que o Senhor me disse quando me agarrou e me preveniu contra essa política:12 Não chameis conspiração tudo aquilo que o povo chama conspiração; não vos assusteis.13 É o Senhor que vós deveis ter por conspirador; é a ele que é preciso respeitar, a ele que se deve temer.14 Ele será a pedra de escândalo e a pedra de tropeço para as duas casas de Israel, o laço e a cilada para os habitantes de Jerusalém.15 Muitos dentre eles vacilarão, cairão e serão despedaçados; serão presos ao laço e apanhados na armadilha.16 Eu vou recolher esta declaração e selar esta revelação para os meus discípulos.17 Terei confiança no Senhor que se esconde da casa de Jacó,e esperarei nele.18 Eu e os filhos que o Senhor me deu somos, em Israel, sinais e presságios da parte do Senhor dos exércitos, que habita no monte de Sião.19 Se vos disserem: Consultai os espíritos dos mortos, os adivinhos, os que conhecem segredos e dizem em voz baixa: Porventura um povo não deve consultar os seus deuses? Consultar os mortos em favor dos vivos?20 Para aceitar uma lei e um testemunho. É o que se dirá. Porque não haverá aurora para eles.21 Andarão errantes pela terra, fatigados e esfomeados; atormentados pela fome, agastar-se-ão e amaldiçoarão o seu rei e o seu Deus. Levantarão os olhos,22 Depois olharão para a terra,e só verão misérias, escuridão e trevas angustiantes. Repelir-se-ão dentro da noite

1 And the Lord said unto me, Take thyself a large table, and write on it with distinct letters, Lemaher–shalal–chash–bas.2 And I was to summon for myself trustworthy witnesses, Uriyah the priest, and Zecharyahu the son of Yeberechyahu.3 And I came near unto the prophetess; and she conceived, and bore a son. Then said the Lord to me, Call his name Maher–shalal–chash–bas.4 For before yet the boy shall know to call, My father, and my mother, the wealth of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be carried away before the king of Assyria.5 And the Lord continued to speak unto me again, saying,6 Forasmuch as this people despiseth the waters of Shiloach that flow softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remalyahu’s son:7 Yea therefore behold, the Lord bringeth up over them the strong and many waters of the river,––the king of Assyria, and all his glory; and he shall come up over all his channels, and step over all his banks;8 And he shall penetrate into Judah, overflow and flood over, even to the neck shall he reach; and his outstretched wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O ‘Immanu–el.9 Associate yourselves, O ye people, yet shall ye be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of the far portions of the earth: gird yourselves, yet shall ye be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, yet shall ye be broken in pieces.10 Take counsel together, yet shall it come to naught; speak the word, and it shall not stand firm; for with us is God.11 For thus said the Lord to me with the strength of prophecy, and warned me not to walk in the way of this people, saying,12 Call ye not a conspiracy all that this people may call a conspiracy, and what it feareth shall ye not fear, and be not terrified thereat.13 The Lord of hosts, him shall ye sanctify; and let him be your fear, and let him be your terror.14 And he will be for a sanctuary; but also for a stone of stumbling and for a rock to fall over unto both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.15 And many shall stumble over them, and fall, and be broken, and snared, and be caught.16 Bind up the testimony, seal up the law among my disciples.17 And I will wait for the Lord, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will hope for him.18 Behold, I and the children whom the Lord hath given me are for signs and for tokens in Israel, from the Lord of hosts who dwelleth on mount Zion.19 And when they shall say unto you, "Inquire of those that have familiar spirits, and of the wizards, that whisper, and that mutter:" should not a people inquire of their God? should we then in behalf of the living inquire of the dead?20 Hold to the law and to the testimony: if they are not to speak according to this word, in which there is no light.21 And the people shall pass through the land, hard oppressed and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they will become enraged, and curse their king and their god, and turn toward on high for aid.22 And they will look unto the earth; and behold there are trouble and darkness, dimness of oppression, and they shall be scattered into obscurity.
