1 Visão de Isaías, filho de Amós, acerca de Judá e Jerusalém.2 No fim dos tempos acontecerá que o monte da casa do Senhor estará colocado à frente das montanhas, e dominará as colinas. Para aí acorrerão todas as gentes,3 e os povos virão em multidão: Vinde, dirão eles, subamos à montanha do Senhor, à casa do Deus de Jacó: ele nos ensinará seus caminhos, e nós trilharemos as suas veredas. Porque de Sião deve sair a lei, e de Jerusalém, a palavra do Senhor.4 Ele será o juiz das nações, o governador de muitos povos. De suas espadas forjarão relhas de arados, e de suas lanças, foices. Uma nação não levantará a espada contra outra, e não se arrastarão mais para a guerra.5 Casa de Jacó, vinde, caminhemos à luz do Senhor.6 Vós rejeitastes inteiramente vosso povo, a casa de Jacó, porque ela está cheia de adivinhos do Oriente, e de agoureiros como os filisteus; ela transige com os estrangeiros.7 A sua terra está cheia de prata e de ouro, e há tesouros sem fim. A sua terra está cheia de cavalos e há um sem-número de carros.8 A sua terra está cheia de ídolos; os homens se prosternam diante da obra de suas mãos, diante daquilo que seus dedos fabricaram.9 Os mortais serão abatidos e o homem será humilhado; vós não os perdoareis de maneira nenhuma.10 Refugiai-vos nos rochedos, escondei-vos debaixo da terra, sob o impulso do terror do Senhor, e do esplendor de sua majestade, quando ele se levantar para aterrorizar a terra.11 A soberba dos mortais será abatida, e o orgulho dos homens será humilhado. Só o Senhor será exaltado naquele tempo.12 Porque o Senhor dos exércitos terá um dia {para exercer punição} contra todo ser orgulhoso e arrogante, e contra todo aquele que se exalta, para abatê-lo,13 contra todos os cedros do Líbano, altos e majestosos, e contra todos os carvalhos de Basã,14 contra todos os altos montes, e contra todos os outeiros elevados,15 contra todas as torres altas, e contra todas as muralhas fortificadas,16 contra todas as naus de Társis e contra todos os objetos de luxo.17 A pretensão dos mortais será humilhada, o orgulho dos homens será abatido. Só o Senhor será exaltado naquele tempo,18 e todos os ídolos desaparecerão.19 Refugiai-vos nas cavernas dos rochedos, e nos antros da terra, sob o impulso do terror do Senhor, e do esplendor de sua majestade, quando ele se levantar para aterrorizar a terra.20 Naquele tempo o homem lançará aos ratos e aos morcegos os ídolos de prata e os ídolos de ouro, que para si tinha feito a fim de adorá-los;21 refugiar-se-á nas cavernas dos rochedos e nas fendas da pedreira, por causa do espanto da presença do Senhor, e do esplendor de sua majestade, quando ele se levantar para aterrorizar a terra.22 Cessai de confiar no homem, cuja vida se prende a um fôlego: como se pode estimá-lo?
1 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz foresaw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.2 And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the Lords house shall be firmly established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and unto it shall flow all the nations.3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the Lord, to the house of the God of Jacob; that he may teach us of his ways, and we may walk in his paths; for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the Lord out of Jerusalem.4 And he will judge among the nations, and decide for many people; and they shall beat their swords into ploughshares, and their spears into pruningknives: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, and they shall not learn any more war.5 O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of the Lord.6 For thou hast abandoned thy people, the house of Jacob, because they are full of witchcraft more than the east, and are soothsayers like the Philistines, and with the children of strangers they unite themselves.7 And full became their land of silver and gold, and there is no end to their treasures; and full became their land of horses, and there is no end to their chariots;8 And full became their land of idols; to the work of their own hands they bow themselves, to what their own fingers have made.9 And so is bent down the son of earth, and humbled the man; and thou wilt not forgive them.10 Enter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, because of the dread of the Lord, and because of the glory of his majesty.11 The looks of human pride shall be humbled, and the haughtiness of men shall be bent down: and exalted shall be the Lord alone on that day.12 For there is a day of judgment unto the Lord of hosts over every proud and lofty one; and over every exalted one, that he be brought low;13 And over all the cedars of the Lebanon, the high and exalted, and over all the oaks of Bashan;14 And over all the high mountains, and over all the exalted hills;15 And over every high tower, and over every fortified wall;16 And over all the ships of Tharshish; and over all desirable palaces.17 And the pride of man shall be bent down, and the haughtiness of men shall be humbled: and exalted shall be the Lord alone on that day.18 And the idols will he utterly abolish.19 And men shall enter into the caverns of rocks, and into the rifts of the earth, because of the dread of the Lord, and because of the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to terrify the earth.20 On that day shall a man cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which have been made for him to worship, to the moles and to the bats;21 To enter into the clefts of the rocks, and into the hollows of the cliffs, because of the dread of the Lord, and because of the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to terrify the earth.22 Withdraw yourselves then from man, whose breath is in his nostrils; because, for what is he to be esteemed?
