1 Mantive-me à disposição das pessoas que não me consultavam, ofereci-me àqueles que não me procuravam. Eis-me aqui, eis-me aqui, dizia eu a um povo que não invocava meu nome.2 Estendia constantemente as mãos a uma nação indócil e rebelde, que seguia o mau caminho de acordo com suas inclinações;3 há pessoas que não cessam de provocar-me diretamente, que sacrificam nos jardins, e queimam perfumes em cima de tijolos,4 que se instalam nos túmulos, e passam a noite em antros, que comem carne de porco, e guarnecem seus pratos de alimentos imundos;5 Mantém-te à distância, dizem eles, não me toques, porque eu te santificaria. Tudo isso me enche as narinas da fumaça, de um fogo que queima sempre.6 Pois bem, eis a decisão que tomei: não me calarei enquanto não os fizer expiar7 suas iniqüidades e as de seus pais, que queimavam o incenso nas montanhas, e me ultrajavam nas colinas. Vou calcular o salário deles, e lançá-lo em seu próprio seio.8 Eis o que diz o Senhor: quando se encontra sumo num cacho de uvas, diz-se: Não o destruam, há aí uma bênção. Assim, por amor a meus servos, em lugar de destruir tudo,9 tirarei de Jacó uma raça, e de Judá um herdeiro de minhas montanhas; meus eleitos as possuirão, e meus servos aí viverão.10 Saron servirá de pastagem ao rebanho miúdo, e no vale de Acor espojar-se-ão os bois {para o povo que me tiver procurado}.11 Quanto a vós, desertores do Senhor, que haveis esquecido meu monte santo, que preparais a mesa para Gad, e encheis a taça de vinho aromatizado para Meni,12 à espada eu vos destino; todos vós vos curvareis para serdes degolados, porque quando eu chamava, não respondíeis; quando falava, vos fazíeis de surdos; praticáveis o que eu acho ruim, e escolhíeis o que me desagrada.13 Portanto, eis o que diz o Senhor Deus: meus servos comerão e vós tereis fome, meus servos beberão e vós tereis sede, meus servos se rejubilarão e vós ficareis envergonhados,14 meus servos cantarão na alegria de seu coração, e vós vos lamentareis com o coração angustiado, rugireis com a alma em desespero.15 Vosso nome ficará como um termo de maldição entre meus eleitos: {Que o Senhor Deus te faça morrer!} enquanto meus servos receberão um novo nome.16 Aquele que desejar ser abençoado na terra, desejará sê-lo pelo Deus fiel, e aquele que jurar na terra, jurará pelo Deus fiel, porque as desgraças de outrora serão esquecidas, já não lhes volverão ao espírito.17 Pois eu vou criar novos céus, e uma nova terra; o passado já não será lembrado, já não volverá ao espírito,18 mas será experimentada a alegria e a felicidade eterna daquilo que vou criar. Pois vou criar uma Jerusalém destinada à alegria, e seu povo ao júbilo;19 Jerusalém me alegrará, e meu povo me rejubilará; doravante já não se ouvirá aí o ruído de soluços nem de gritos.20 Já não morrerá aí nenhum menino, nem ancião que não haja completado seus dias; será ainda jovem o que morrer aos cem anos: não atingir cem anos será uma maldição.21 Serão construídas casas onde habitarão, serão plantadas vinhas cujos frutos comerão.22 Não mais se construirá para que outro se instale; não mais se plantará para que outro se alimente. Os filhos de meu povo durarão tanto quanto as árvores, e meus eleitos gozarão do trabalho de suas mãos.23 Não trabalharão mais em vão, não darão mais à luz filhos votados a uma morte repentina, porque serão a raça abençoada pelo Senhor, eles e seus descendentes.24 Antes mesmo que me chamem, eu lhes responderei; estarão ainda falando e já serão atendidos.25 O lobo e o cordeiro pastarão juntos, o leão, como um boi, se alimentará de palha, e a serpente comerá terra. Nenhum mal nem desordem alguma será cometida, em todo o meu monte santo, diz o Senhor.
1 I allowed myself to be sought by those that asked not; I let myself be found by those that sought me not: I said, Here am I, here am I, unto a nation that called itself not by my name.2 I spread out my hands all the time unto a rebellious people, that walk in the way which is not good, after their own thoughts;3 To the people that provoke me to anger to my face continually; that sacrifice in gardens and burn incense upon altars of brick,4 That sit about among the graves, and lodge in the vaults, that eat the flesh of the swine, and have broth of abominations in their vessels;5 That say, Stand by thyself, come not near to me; for I am holier than thou. These are a smoke in my nose, a fire that burneth all the time.6 Behold, it is written before me; I will not keep silence, till I have recompensed, yea, recompensed into their bosom.7 Your iniquities and the iniquities of your fathers together, saith the Lord, who have burnt incense upon the mountains, and upon the hills have blasphemed me: and I will measure out their work at first into their bosom.8 Thus hath said the Lord, As the new wine is found in the cluster of grapes, and one saith, Destroy it not, for a blessing is in it; so will I do for the sake of my servants, that I will not destroy the whole;9 And I let come forth out of Jacob a seed, and out of Judah an inheritor of my mountains; and my elect shall inherit it, and my servants shall dwell there.10 And Sharon shall become a fold of flocks, and the valley of Achor a restingplace for herds, for my people that have sought me.11 But ye who forsake the Lord, who forget my holy mountain, that set out a table for the god of Fortune, and that fill for Destiny the drinkoffering.12 Yea, I will destine you to the sword, and all of you shall kneel down to the slaughter; because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spoke, ye did not hear; but ye did what is evil in my eyes, and that wherein I had no delight did ye choose.13 Therefore thus hath said the Lord Eternal, Behold, my servants shall eat, but ye shall be hungry; behold, my servants shall drink, but ye shall be thirsty; behold, my servants shall rejoice, but ye shall be made ashamed;14 Behold, my servants shall sing for joy of heart, but ye shall cry out from pain of heart, and from a broken spirit shall ye howl;15 And ye shall leave behind your name for an oath unto my elect ones, when the Lord Eternal will slay thee; but his servants will he call by another name.16 Whoever there be that blesseth himself on the earth shall bless himself by the true God; and that sweareth on the earth shall swear by the true God; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hidden from my eyes.17 For, behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth; and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind;18 But be ye glad and rejoice unto all eternity in what I create; for, behold, I will create Jerusalem for rejoicing, and her people for gladness.19 And I will rejoice over Jerusalem, and be glad in my people: and there shall not be heard in her any more the voice of weeping, nor the voice of complaint.20 There shall no more come thence an infant of few days, nor an old man that shall not have the full length of his days; for as a lad shall one die a hundred years old; and as a sinner shall be accursed he who dieth at a hundred years old.21 And they shall build houses, and inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, and eat their fruit.22 They shall not build, and another inhabit; they shall not plant, and another eat; for as the days of a tree are the days of my people, and the work of their hands shall my elect wear out.23 They shall not toil in vain, nor bring forth unto an early death; for the seed of the blessed of the Lord are they, and their offspring with them.24 And it shall come to pass, that before yet they call will I answer; and while they are still speaking will I hear.25 The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall like the bullock eat straw: and the serpentdust shall be his food. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the Lord.
