Deuteronômio 12

1 These are the statutes and the ordinances which you shall observe to do in the land which Yahweh, the God of your fathers, has given you to possess all the days that you live on the earth. 2 You shall surely destroy all the places in which the nations that you shall dispossess served their gods: on the high mountains, and on the hills, and under every green tree. 3 You shall break down their altars, dash their pillars in pieces, and burn their Asherah poles with fire. You shall cut down the engraved images of their gods. You shall destroy their name out of that place. 4 You shall not do so to Yahweh your God. 5 But to the place which Yahweh your God shall choose out of all your tribes, to put his name there, you shall seek his habitation, and you shall come there. 6 You shall bring your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the wave offering of your hand, your vows, your free will offerings, and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock there. 7 There you shall eat before Yahweh your God, and you shall rejoice in all that you put your hand to, you and your households, in which Yahweh your God has blessed you. 8 You shall not do all the things that we do here today, every man whatever is right in his own eyes; 9 for you haven’t yet come to the rest and to the inheritance which Yahweh your God gives you. 10 But when you go over the Jordan and dwell in the land which Yahweh your God causes you to inherit, and he gives you rest from all your enemies around you, so that you dwell in safety, 11 then it shall happen that to the place which Yahweh your God shall choose, to cause his name to dwell there, there you shall bring all that I command you: your burnt offerings, your sacrifices, your tithes, the wave offering of your hand, and all your choice vows which you vow to Yahweh. 12 You shall rejoice before Yahweh your God—you, and your sons, your daughters, your male servants, your female servants, and the Levite who is within your gates, because he has no portion nor inheritance with you. 13 Be careful that you don’t offer your burnt offerings in every place that you see; 14 but in the place which Yahweh chooses in one of your tribes, there you shall offer your burnt offerings, and there you shall do all that I command you.

15 Yet you may kill and eat meat within all your gates, after all the desire of your soul, according to Yahweh your God’s blessing which he has given you. The unclean and the clean may eat of it, as of the gazelle and the deer. 16 Only you shall not eat the blood. You shall pour it out on the earth like water. 17 You may not eat within your gates the tithe of your grain, or of your new wine, or of your oil, or the firstborn of your herd or of your flock, nor any of your vows which you vow, nor your free will offerings, nor the wave offering of your hand; 18 but you shall eat them before Yahweh your God in the place which Yahweh your God shall choose: you, your son, your daughter, your male servant, your female servant, and the Levite who is within your gates. You shall rejoice before Yahweh your God in all that you put your hand to. 19 Be careful that you don’t forsake the Levite as long as you live in your land.

20 When Yahweh your God enlarges your border, as he has promised you, and you say, "I want to eat meat," because your soul desires to eat meat, you may eat meat, after all the desire of your soul. 21 If the place which Yahweh your God shall choose to put his name is too far from you, then you shall kill of your herd and of your flock, which Yahweh has given you, as I have commanded you; and you may eat within your gates, after all the desire of your soul. 22 Even as the gazelle and as the deer is eaten, so you shall eat of it. The unclean and the clean may eat of it alike. 23 Only be sure that you don’t eat the blood; for the blood is the life. You shall not eat the life with the meat. 24 You shall not eat it. You shall pour it out on the earth like water. 25 You shall not eat it, that it may go well with you and with your children after you, when you do that which is right in Yahweh’s eyes. 26 Only your holy things which you have, and your vows, you shall take and go to the place which Yahweh shall choose. 27 You shall offer your burnt offerings, the meat and the blood, on Yahweh your God’s altar. The blood of your sacrifices shall be poured out on Yahweh your God’s altar, and you shall eat the meat. 28 Observe and hear all these words which I command you, that it may go well with you and with your children after you forever, when you do that which is good and right in Yahweh your God’s eyes.

29 When Yahweh your God cuts off the nations from before you where you go in to dispossess them, and you dispossess them and dwell in their land, 30 be careful that you are not ensnared to follow them after they are destroyed from before you, and that you not inquire after their gods, saying, "How do these nations serve their gods? I will do likewise." 31 You shall not do so to Yahweh your God; for every abomination to Yahweh, which he hates, they have done to their gods; for they even burn their sons and their daughters in the fire to their gods. 32 Whatever thing I command you, that you shall observe to do. You shall not add to it, nor take away from it.

Gudstjänst på utvald plats

1 Detta är de stadgar och föreskrifter som ni ska vara noga med att följa i det land, som Herren, dina fäders Gud, har gett dig till besittning, så länge ni lever på jorden. 2 Ni ska i grund förstöra alla de platser där de folk som ni fördriver har tillbett sina gudar, på höga berg och höjder eller under lummiga träd. 3 *5 Mos 7:5. Ni ska bryta ner deras altaren, slå sönder deras stoder och bränna upp deras asherapålar i eld, hugga ner deras avgudabilder och utplåna deras namn från sådana platser. 4 Ni ska inte tjäna Herren er Gud på deras sätt, 5 *1 Kung 8:29, 2 Krön 7:12, 16. utan den plats som Herren er Gud utväljer bland alla era stammar för att där fästa sitt namn, denna hans boning ska ni söka och dit ska du gå. 6 Dit ska ni föra era brännoffer och slaktoffer, ert tionde, och era händers bidrag, era löftesoffer*12:6löftesofferDen som bad långt från templet kunde understryka sin bön genom att lova Gud ett offer som sedan frambars vid nästa tempelbesök (jfr t ex Jona 2:10). och frivilliga offer och det förstfödda av era kor och får. 7 Och där ska ni äta inför Herren er Guds ansikte och glädja er med ert husfolk över allt ni förvärvat, det som Herren din Gud har välsignat dig med.

8 Ni ska då inte göra allt som vi i dag gör här, där var och en gör vad han själv anser vara rätt. 9 Ni har ju ännu inte kommit in i den vila och den arvedel som Herren din Gud vill ge dig. 10 Men när ni har gått över Jordan och bor i det land som Herren er Gud vill ge er till arvedel och när han har låtit er få ro för alla era fiender runt omkring och ni bor i trygghet, 11 då ska ni föra allt som jag befaller er till den plats som Herren er Gud utväljer till boning åt sitt namn: era brännoffer och slaktoffer, ert tionde, era händers bidrag och alla de utvalda löftesoffer som ni ger Herren löfte om. 12 *4 Mos 18:20f, 5 Mos 10:9, 14:27, 18:1. Där ska ni glädja er inför Herren er Guds ansikte med era söner och döttrar, tjänare och tjänarinnor och med leviten som bor inom era portar, för han har ju ingen egen lott eller arvedel med er.

13 Ta dig till vara så att du inte offrar dina brännoffer på vilken plats som helst. 14 Endast där, på den plats Herren utväljer inom en av dina stammar, ska du offra dina brännoffer, och där ska du göra allt som jag befaller dig. 15 Däremot får du slakta och äta kött så mycket du önskar inom alla dina städer, allt efter den välsignelse som Herren din Gud ger dig. Både den som är oren och den som är ren får äta av det, som vore det kött av gasell eller hjort. 16 *1 Mos 9:4, 3 Mos 3:17, 7:26, 17:10f, 19:26, 5 Mos 15:23. Men blodet får ni inte förtära. Det ska du hälla ut på marken som vatten.

17 Du får inte inom dina portar äta tionden av din säd, ditt vin och din olja och inte heller det förstfödda av dina kor och får eller något av de löftesoffer som du gett löfte om eller av dina frivilliga offer eller av dina händers bidrag. 18 *5 Mos 14:23. På den plats som Herren din Gud utväljer ska du äta det inför Herren din Guds ansikte tillsammans med din son och dotter, din tjänare och tjänarinna och med leviten som bor inom dina portar. Och du ska glädja dig inför Herren din Guds ansikte över allt du förvärvat. 19 *5 Mos 14:27. Se till att du inte glömmer bort leviten så länge du lever i ditt land.

20 *1 Mos 28:14, 5 Mos 19:8. När Herren din Gud har utvidgat ditt område så som han har lovat dig, och du tänker: "Jag vill äta kött", eftersom du har lust att äta kött, så får du äta kött så mycket du vill. 21 Om den plats som Herren din Gud utväljer till att där fästa sitt namn ligger för långt bort för dig, så kan du enligt min befallning till dig slakta av de kor och får som Herren har gett dig och äta av det inom dina portar, så mycket du vill. 22 Men du ska äta det så som man äter kött av gasell eller hjort*12:22som … gasell eller hjortAlltså inte offrat som ett gemenskapsoffer (se 3 Mos 7:11f), eftersom templet skulle bli den enda tillåtna offerplatsen.. Både den som är oren och den som är ren får äta av det. 23 *3 Mos 17:11f. Men se till att du inte äter blodet, för blodet är livet, och du får inte äta livet tillsammans med köttet. 24 Du får inte äta det. Du ska hälla ut det på marken som vatten. 25 Ät det inte, så ska det gå väl för dig och dina barn efter dig, när du gör det som är rätt i Herrens ögon.

26 Men de heliga gåvor som du vill bära fram, och dina löftesoffer, ska du ta med dig till den plats som Herren utväljer. 27 Av dina brännoffer ska du offra köttet och blodet på Herren din Guds altare. Av dina slaktoffer ska blodet utgjutas på Herren din Guds altare. Men köttet får du äta.

28 Var noga med att lyda alla dessa bud som jag ger dig, så att det till evig tid går väl för dig och dina barn efter dig, när du gör det som är gott och rätt i Herren din Guds ögon.

Varning för avgudadyrkan

29 När Herren din Gud har utrotat de hednafolk som du nu kommer till för att fördriva, och du har drivit bort dem och bor i deras land, 30 *5 Mos 18:9f, Jos 23:7, Ps 106:35f. se då till att du inte lockas till att följa deras seder, sedan de blivit röjda ur vägen för dig. Fråga inte efter deras gudar, så att du säger: "Hur dyrkade dessa folk sina gudar? Jag vill göra på samma sätt." 31 Så ska inte du göra när du tillber Herren din Gud, eftersom allt som Herren avskyr och hatar har de gjort till sina gudars ära. Till och med sina söner och döttrar bränner de upp i eld åt sina gudar.

32 *5 Mos 4:2, Ords 30:6, Upp 22:18f. Allt som jag befaller er ska ni vara noga med att följa. Du ska inte lägga något till det och inte ta något därifrån.
