1 And it came to pass, when all the kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordan westward, and all the kings of the Canaanites, that were by the sea, heard how that Jehovah had dried up the waters of the Jordan from before the children of Israel, until we were passed over, that their heart melted, neither was there spirit in them any more, because of the children of Israel.

2 At that time Jehovah said unto Joshua, Make thee knives of flint, and circumcise again the children of Israel the second time. 3 And Joshua made him knives of flint, and circumcised the children of Israel at the hill of the foreskins. 4 And this is the cause why Joshua did circumcise: all the people that came forth out of Egypt, that were males, even all the men of war, died in the wilderness by the way, after they came forth out of Egypt. 5 For all the people that came out were circumcised; but all the people that were born in the wilderness by the way as they came forth out of Egypt, they had not circumcised. 6 For the children of Israel walked forty years in the wilderness, till all the nation, even the men of war that came forth out of Egypt, were consumed, because they hearkened not unto the voice of Jehovah: unto whom Jehovah sware that he would not let them see the land which Jehovah sware unto their fathers that he would give us, a land flowing with milk and honey. 7 And their children, whom he raised up in their stead, them did Joshua circumcise: for they were uncircumcised, because they had not circumcised them by the way. 8 And it came to pass, when they had done circumcising all the nation, that they abode in their places in the camp, till they were whole. 9 And Jehovah said unto Joshua, This day have I rolled away the reproach of Egypt from off you. Wherefore the name of that place was called Gilgal, unto this day.

10 And the children of Israel encamped in Gilgal; and they kept the passover on the fourteenth day of the month at even in the plains of Jericho. 11 And they did eat of the produce of the land on the morrow after the passover, unleavened cakes and parched grain, in the selfsame day. 12 And the manna ceased on the morrow, after they had eaten of the produce of the land; neither had the children of Israel manna any more; but they did eat of the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? 14 And he said, Nay; but as prince of the host of Jehovah am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant? 15 And the prince of Jehovah’s host said unto Joshua, Put off thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.

Tot*Num. 14:29;26:64,65.Deut. 2:16. poporul ieșit din Egipt, bărbații, toți oamenii de luptă muriseră în pustie, pe drum, după ieșirea lor din Egipt. 5 Tot poporul acela ieșit din Egipt era tăiat împrejur, dar tot poporul născut în pustie, pe drum, după ieșirea din Egipt, nu fusese tăiat împrejur. 6 Căci copiii lui Israel umblaseră patruzeci*Num. 14:33.Deut. 1:3;2:7,14.Ps. 95:10. de ani prin pustie până la nimicirea întregului neam de oameni de război care ieșiseră din Egipt și care nu ascultaseră de glasul Domnului. Domnul le-a jurat că nu-i*Num. 14:23.Ps. 95:11.Evr. 3:11. va lăsa să vadă țara pe care jurase părinților lor că le-o va da, țară*Exod 3:8. în care curge lapte și miere. 7 În locul lor a ridicat pe*Num. 14:31.Deut. 1:39. copiii lor; și Iosua i-a tăiat împrejur, căci erau netăiați împrejur, pentru că nu-i tăiaseră împrejur pe drum. 8 După ce a isprăvit de tăiat împrejur pe tot poporul, au rămas pe loc în tabără până la vindecare*Gen. 34:25..

9 Domnul a zis lui Iosua: „Astăzi, am ridicat ocara*Gen. 34:14.1 Sam. 14:6.Lev. 18:3. Cap. 24:14.Ezec. 20:7;23:3,8. Egiptului de deasupra voastră." Și locului aceluia i-au pus numele*Cap. 4:19. Ghilgal (Prăvălire) până în ziua de azi. 10 Copiii lui Israel au tăbărât la Ghilgal și au prăznuit Paștele în a paisprezecea*Exod 12:6.Num. 9:5. zi a lunii, spre seară, în câmpia Ierihonului. 11 A doua zi de Paște au mâncat din grâul țării, azimi și boabe prăjite; chiar în ziua aceea au mâncat. 12 Mana*Exod 16:35. a încetat a doua zi de Paște, când au mâncat din grâul țării. Copiii lui Israel n-au mai avut mană, ci au mâncat din roadele țării Canaanului în anul acela.

13 Pe când Iosua era lângă Ierihon, a ridicat ochii și s-a uitat. Și iată că un om*Gen. 18:2;32:24.Exod 23:23.Zah. 1:8.Fapte 1:10. stătea în picioare înaintea lui, cu sabia scoasă*Num. 22:23. din teacă în mână. Iosua s-a dus spre el și i-a zis: „Ești dintre ai noștri sau dintre vrăjmașii noștri?" 14 El a răspuns: „Nu, ci Eu sunt Căpetenia oștirii Domnului și acum am venit." Iosua s-a*Gen. 17:3. aruncat cu fața la pământ, s-a închinat și I-a zis: „Ce spune Domnul meu robului Său?" 15 Și Căpetenia oștirii Domnului a zis lui Iosua: „Scoate-ți*Exod 3:5.Fapte 7:33. încălțămintea din picioare, căci locul pe care stai este sfânt." Și Iosua a făcut așa.
