1 And Solomon allied himself by marriage with Pharaoh king of Egypt, and took Pharaoh’s daughter, and brought her into the city of David, until he had ended building his own house, and the house of Jehovah, and the wall of Jerusalem round about. 2 Only, the people sacrificed on the high places; for there was no house built to the name of Jehovah, until those days. 3 And Solomon loved Jehovah, walking in the statutes of David his father; only, he sacrificed and burned incense on the high places. 4 And the king went to Gibeon to sacrifice there; for that was the great high place: a thousand burnt-offerings did Solomon offer up upon that altar.

5 In Gibeon Jehovah appeared to Solomon in a dream by night; and God*GodHebrew: Elohim said, Ask what I shall give thee. 6 And Solomon said, Thou hast shewn unto thy servant David my father great loving-kindness, according as he walked before thee in truth, and in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great loving-kindness, that thou hast given him a son who sits upon his throne, as it is this day. 7 And now, Jehovah my God*GodHebrew: Elohim thou hast made thy servant king instead of David my father; and I am but a little child: I know not to go out and to come in. 8 And thy servant is in the midst of thy people which thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. 9 Give therefore to thy servant an understanding heart, to judge thy people, to discern between good and bad; for who is able to judge this thy numerous people? 10 And the word pleased the Lord, that Solomon had asked this thing. 11 And God*GodHebrew: Elohim said to him, Because thou hast asked this thing, and hast not asked for thyself long life, neither hast asked riches for thyself, nor hast asked the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself discernment to understand judgment; 12 behold, I have done according to thy word: behold, I have given thee a wise and an understanding heart, so that there hath been none like unto thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee. 13 And I have also given thee that which thou hast not asked, both riches and glory; so that there shall not be any among the kings like unto thee all thy days. 14 And if thou wilt walk in my ways, to keep my statutes and my commandments, as thy father David did walk, then I will prolong thy days. 15 And Solomon awoke, and behold, it was a dream. And he came to Jerusalem, and stood before the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, and offered up burnt-offerings, and offered peace-offerings, and made a feast to all his servants.

16 Then came two women, harlots, to the king, and stood before him. 17 And the first woman said, Ah, my lord! I and this woman abode in one house; and I was delivered of a child with her in the house. 18 And it came to pass the third day after I was delivered, that this woman was delivered also; and we were together; no stranger was with us in the house, only we two were in the house. 19 And this woman’s child died in the night; because she had lain upon it. 20 And she arose at midnight, and took my son from beside me, while thy handmaid slept, and laid it in her bosom, and laid her dead son in my bosom. 21 And when I rose in the morning to give my child suck, behold, it was dead; and I considered it in the morning, and behold, it was not my son, whom I bore. 22 And the other woman said, No, for the living is my son, and the dead is thy son. And this one said, No, but the dead is thy son, and the living is my son. Thus they spoke before the king. 23 Then said the king, The one says, This that is living is my son, and thy son is the dead; and the other says, No, for thy son is the dead, and my son is the living. 24 And the king said, Bring me a sword. And they brought a sword before the king. 25 And the king said, Divide the living child in two, and give half to the one, and half to the other. 26 Then spoke the woman whose was the living child to the king, for her bowels yearned over her son, and she said, Ah, my lord! give her the living child, and in no wise put it to death. But the other said, Let it be neither mine nor thine; divide it. 27 And the king answered and said, Give this one the living child, and in no wise put it to death: she is its mother. 28 And all Israel heard of the judgment which the king had judged; and they feared the king, for they saw that the wisdom of God*GodHebrew: Elohim was in him, to do justice.

Solomon a adus o mie de arderi-de-tot pe altar. 5 La Gabaon*Cap. 9:2.2 Cron. 1:7., Domnul S-a arătat în vis*Num. 12:6.Mat. 1:20;2:13,19. lui Solomon noaptea și Dumnezeu i-a zis: „Cere ce vrei să-ți dau." 6 Solomon*2 Cron. 1:8. a răspuns: „Tu ai arătat o mare bunăvoință față de robul Tău David, tatăl meu, pentru că umbla*Cap. 2:4;9:4.2 Împ. 20:3.Ps. 15:2. înaintea Ta în credincioșie, în dreptate și în curăție de inimă față de Tine; i-ai păstrat această mare bunăvoință și i-ai dat un fiu*Cap. 1:48. care șade pe scaunul lui de domnie, cum se vede astăzi. 7 Acum, Doamne, Dumnezeul meu, Tu ai pus pe robul Tău să împărățească în locul tatălui meu David, și eu nu sunt decât un tânăr*1 Cron. 29:1., nu sunt încercat*Num. 27:17.. 8 Robul Tău este în mijlocul poporului pe care l-ai*Deut. 7:6. ales, popor foarte mare, care nu poate fi nici socotit, nici*Gen. 13:16;15:5. numărat, din pricina mulțimii lui. 9 Dă dar*2 Cron. 1:10.Prov. 2:3-9.Iac. 1:5. robului Tău o inimă pricepută, ca să judece*Ps. 72:1,2. pe poporul Tău, să deosebească*Evr. 5:14. binele de rău! Căci cine ar putea să judece pe poporul Tău, pe poporul acesta așa de mare la număr?" 10 Cererea aceasta a lui Solomon a plăcut Domnului. 11 Și Dumnezeu a zis: „Fiindcă lucrul acesta îl ceri, fiindcă nu ceri*Iac. 4:3. pentru tine nici viață lungă, nici bogății, nici moartea vrăjmașilor tăi, ci ceri pricepere, ca să faci dreptate, 12 voi*1 Ioan 5:14,15. face după cuvântul tău. Îți voi*Cap. 4:29-31;5:12;10:24.Ecl. 1:16. da o inimă înțeleaptă și pricepută, așa cum n-a fost nimeni înaintea ta și nu se va scula nimeni niciodată ca tine. 13 Mai mult, îți voi da*Mat. 6:33.Efes. 3:20. și ce n-ai cerut: bogății*Cap. 4:21,24;10:23,25.Prov. 3:16. și slavă, așa încât în tot timpul vieții tale nu va fi niciun împărat ca tine. 14 Și, dacă vei umbla în căile Mele, păzind legile și poruncile Mele, cum*Cap. 15:5. a făcut David, tatăl tău, îți voi lungi*Ps. 91:16.Prov. 3:2. zilele." 15 Solomon s-a*Gen. 41:7. deșteptat. Acesta a fost visul. Solomon s-a întors la Ierusalim și s-a înfățișat înaintea chivotului legământului Domnului. A adus arderi-de-tot și jertfe de mulțumire și a dat un ospăț*Gen. 40:20. Cap. 8:65.Est. 1:3.Dan. 5:1.Marcu 6:21. tuturor slujitorilor lui.

16 Atunci au venit două femei curve la împărat și s-au înfățișat*Num. 27:2. înaintea lui. 17 Una din femei a zis: „Rogu-mă, domnul meu, eu și femeia aceasta locuiam în aceeași casă și am născut lângă ea în casă. 18 După trei zile, femeia aceasta a născut și ea. Locuiam împreună, niciun străin nu era cu noi în casă, nu eram decât noi amândouă. 19 Peste noapte, fiul acestei femei a murit, pentru că se culcase peste el. 20 Ea s-a sculat pe la mijlocul nopții, a luat pe fiul meu de lângă mine, pe când dormea roaba ta, și l-a culcat la sânul ei, iar pe fiul ei, care murise, l-a culcat la sânul meu. 21 Dimineața, m-am sculat să dau țâță copilului, și iată că era mort. M-am uitat cu luare aminte la el dimineața, și iată că nu era fiul meu pe care-l născusem." 22 Cealaltă femeie a zis: „Ba nu; fiul meu este cel viu, iar fiul tău e cel mort." Dar cea dintâi a răspuns: „Ba nicidecum! Fiul tău este cel mort, iar fiul meu este cel viu." Așa au vorbit ele înaintea împăratului. 23 Împăratul a zis: „Una zice: ‘Fiul meu este cel viu, iar fiul tău este cel mort.’ Și cealaltă zice: ‘Ba nicidecum! Fiul tău este cel mort, iar fiul meu este cel viu.’" 24 Apoi a adăugat: „Aduceți-mi o sabie!" Au adus o sabie înaintea împăratului. 25 Și împăratul a zis: „Tăiați în două copilul cel viu și dați o jumătate uneia și o jumătate celeilalte!" 26 Atunci, femeia al cărei copil era viu a simțit că i*Gen. 43:30.Is. 49:15.Ier. 31:20.Osea 11:8. se rupe inima pentru copil și a zis împăratului: „Ah, domnul meu, dă-i mai bine ei copilul cel viu și nu-l omorî!" Dar cealaltă a zis: „Să nu fie nici al meu, nici al tău; tăiați-l!" 27 Și împăratul, luând cuvântul, a zis: „Dați celei dintâi copilul cel viu și nu-l omorâți. Ea este mama lui." 28 Tot Israelul a auzit de hotărârea pe care o rostise împăratul. Și s-au temut de împărat, căci au văzut că înțelepciunea*Vers. 9,11,12. lui Dumnezeu era în el, povățuindu-l în judecățile lui.
