1 And it came to pass a long time after that Jehovah had given rest to Israel from all their enemies round about, and Joshua had become old, advanced in age, 2 that Joshua called for all Israel, for their elders, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers, and said unto them, I am become old, advanced in age; 3 and ye have seen all that Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim hath done to all these nations because of you. For Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim is he that hath fought for you. 4 Behold, I have divided unto you by lot for an inheritance, according to your tribes, these nations that remain, from the Jordan, as well as all the nations that I have cut off, as far as the great sea toward the sun-setting. 5 And Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim he will expel them from before you, and dispossess them from out of your sight; and ye shall take possession of their land, as Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim hath said unto you. 6 And be ye very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses, that ye turn not aside therefrom to the right hand or to the left; 7 that ye enter not among these nations, these that remain among you; and ye shall make no mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them; 8 but ye shall cleave unto Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim as ye have done unto this day. 9 For Jehovah hath dispossessed from before you great and strong nations; and as to you, no man hath been able to stand before you unto this day. 10 One man of you chaseth a thousand; for Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim he it is that fighteth for you, as he hath said unto you.

11 Take great heed therefore unto your souls, that ye love Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim12 For if ye in any wise go back, and cleave unto the residue of these nations, these that remain among you, and make marriages with them, and come in unto them and they unto you: 13 know for a certainty that Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim will no more dispossess these nations from before you, and they shall be snares and traps unto you, and scourges in your sides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim hath given you. 14 And behold, I am going this day the way of all the earth; and ye know in all your heart, and in all your soul, that not one thing hath failed of all the good words that Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim hath spoken concerning you: all are come to pass unto you — not one thing hath failed thereof. 15 But it shall come to pass, that as every good word hath been fulfilled to you, that Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim spoke to you, so will Jehovah bring upon you every evil word, until he have destroyed you from off this good land which Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim hath given you; 16 when ye transgress the covenant of Jehovah your God*GodHebrew: Elohim which he commanded you, and go and serve other gods, and bow yourselves unto them, so that the anger of Jehovah shall be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you.

Iosua era bătrân*Cap. 13:1., înaintat în vârstă. 2 Atunci, Iosua a chemat*Deut. 31:28. Cap. 24:1.1 Cron. 28:1. pe tot Israelul, pe bătrânii lui, pe căpeteniile lui, pe judecătorii lui și pe căpeteniile oștii. Și le-a zis: „Eu sunt bătrân, înaintat în vârstă. 3 Ați văzut tot ce a făcut Domnul Dumnezeul*Exod 14:14. Cap. 10:14,42. vostru tuturor neamurilor acelora dinaintea voastră, căci Domnul Dumnezeul vostru a luptat pentru voi. 4 Vedeți, v-am*Cap. 13:2,6;18:10. dat ca moștenire prin sorți, după semințiile voastre, neamurile acestea care au rămas, începând de la Iordan, și toate neamurile pe care le-am nimicit, până la Marea cea Mare, spre apusul soarelui. 5 Domnul Dumnezeul*Exod 23:30;33:2;34:11.Deut. 11:23. Cap. 13:6. vostru le va izgoni dinaintea voastră și le va alunga dinaintea voastră; și voi le veți stăpâni țara, cum*Num. 33:53. a spus Domnul Dumnezeul vostru. 6 Puneți-vă toată puterea*Cap. 1:7. ca să păziți și să împliniți tot ce este scris în cartea legii lui Moise, fără să vă*Deut. 5:32;28:14. abateți nici la dreapta, nici la stânga. 7 Să nu*Exod 23:33.Deut. 7:2,3.Prov. 4:14.Efes. 5:11. vă amestecați cu neamurile acestea care au rămas printre voi; să nu rostiți*Exod 23:13.Ps. 16:4.Ier. 5:7.Ţef. 1:5.Num. 32:38. numele dumnezeilor lor și să nu-l întrebuințați în jurământ; să nu le slujiți și să nu vă închinați înaintea lor. 8 Ci alipiți-vă*Deut. 10:20;11:22;13:4. Cap. 22:5. de Domnul Dumnezeul vostru, cum ați făcut până în ziua aceasta. 9 Domnul*Deut. 11:23. a izgonit dinaintea voastră neamuri mari și puternice și nimeni*Cap. 1:5. până în ziua aceasta n-a putut să vă stea împotrivă. 10 Unul*Lev. 26:8.Deut. 32:30.Jud. 3:31;15:15.2 Sam. 23:8. singur dintre voi urmărea o mie din ei, căci Domnul Dumnezeul vostru lupta pentru voi, cum*Exod 14:14;23:27.Deut. 3:22. v-a spus. 11 Vegheați*Cap. 22:5. dar cu luare aminte asupra sufletelor voastre, ca să iubiți pe Domnul Dumnezeul vostru. 12 Dacă vă veți*Evr. 10:38,39.2 Pet. 2:20,21. abate și vă veți alipi de neamurile acestea care au rămas printre voi, dacă vă veți uni cu ele*Deut. 7:3. prin căsătorie și dacă veți intra în legătură cu ele, 13 să fiți încredințați că Domnul*Jud. 2:3. Dumnezeul vostru nu va mai izgoni aceste neamuri dinaintea voastră, ci*Exod 23:33.Num. 33:55.Deut. 7:16.1 Împ. 11:4. ele vă vor fi o cursă și un laț, un bici în coaste și niște spini în ochi, până veți pieri de pe fața acestei țări bune pe care v-a dat-o Domnul Dumnezeul vostru. 14 Iată că astăzi eu mă duc*1 Împ. 2:2.Evr. 9:27. pe calea pe care merge tot ce este pământesc. Recunoașteți dar din toată inima voastră și din tot sufletul vostru că niciunul din toate cuvintele bune rostite asupra voastră de Domnul Dumnezeul vostru n-a rămas neîmplinit; toate vi s-au împlinit, niciunul n-a rămas*Cap. 21:45.Luca 21:33. neîmplinit. 15 Și după*Deut. 28:63. cum toate cuvintele bune pe care vi le spusese Domnul Dumnezeul vostru s-au împlinit pentru voi, tot așa Domnul va împlini față de voi toate cuvintele rele*Lev. 26:16.Deut. 28:15-68., până vă va nimici de pe fața acestei țări bune pe care v-a dat-o Domnul Dumnezeul vostru. 16 Dacă veți călca legământul pe care vi l-a dat Domnul Dumnezeul vostru și dacă vă veți duce să slujiți altor dumnezei și să vă închinați înaintea lor, Domnul Se va aprinde de mânie împotriva voastră și veți pieri degrabă din țara cea bună pe care v-a dat-o El."
