1 If there be a controversy between men, and they come unto judgment, and the judges judge them; then they shall justify the righteous, and condemn the wicked; 2 and it shall be, if the wicked man be worthy to be beaten, that the judge shall cause him to lie down, and to be beaten before his face, according to his wickedness, by number. 3 Forty stripes he may give him, he shall not exceed: lest, if he should exceed, and beat him above these with many stripes, then thy brother should seem vile unto thee. 4 Thou shalt not muzzle the ox when he treadeth out the corn. 5 If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no son, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband’s brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband’s brother unto her. 6 And it shall be, that the firstborn which she beareth shall succeed in the name of his brother which is dead, that his name be not blotted out of Israel. 7 And if the man like not to take his brother’s wife, then his brother’s wife shall go up to the gate unto the elders, and say, My husband’s brother refuseth to raise up unto his brother a name in Israel, he will not perform the duty of an husband’s brother unto me. 8 Then the elders of his city shall call him, and speak unto him: and if he stand, and say, I like not to take her; 9 then shall his brother’s wife come unto him in the presence of the elders, and loose his shoe from off his foot, and spit in his face; and she shall answer and say, So shall it be done unto the man that doth not build up his brother’s house. 10 And his name shall be called in Israel, The house of him that hath his shoe loosed. 11 When men strive together one with another, and the wife of the one draweth near for to deliver her husband out of the hand of him that smiteth him, and putteth forth her hand, and taketh him by the secrets: 12 then thou shalt cut off her hand, thine eye shall have no pity. 13 Thou shalt not have in thy bag divers weights, a great and a small. 14 Thou shalt not have in thine house divers measures, a great and a small. 15 A perfect and just weight shalt thou have; a perfect and just measure shalt thou have: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. 16 For all that do such things; even all that do unrighteously, are an abomination unto the LORD thy God. 17 Remember what Amalek did unto thee by the way as ye came forth out of Egypt; 18 how he met thee by the way, and smote the hindmost of thee, all that were feeble behind thee, when thou wast faint and weary; and he feared not God. 19 Therefore it shall be, when the LORD thy God hath given thee rest from all thine enemies round about, in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee for an inheritance to possess it, that thou shalt blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven; thou shalt not forget.

1 — Quando houver desentendimento entre dois homens, e vierem a juízo, os juízes os julgarão, justificando o inocente e condenando o culpado. 2 Se o culpado merecer açoites, o juiz mandará que ele se deite no chão e seja açoitado, na sua presença, com o número de açoites que o caso exigir. 3 Poderá ordenar quarenta açoites, não mais; do contrário, se ordenasse mais do que isso, um compatriota seria humilhado aos olhos de vocês.

4 — Não amarrem a boca do boi quando estiver pisando o trigo.

5 — Se dois irmãos morarem juntos, e um deles morrer sem filhos, a mulher do que morreu não se casará com um estranho, alguém de fora da família; seu cunhado a tomará, a receberá por mulher e exercerá para com ela a obrigação de cunhado. 6 O primogênito que ela lhe der será sucessor do nome do seu irmão falecido, para que o nome deste não se apague em Israel.

7 — Porém, se o homem não quiser se casar com a cunhada, ela irá ao portão da cidade para falar com os anciãos, e dirá: "Meu cunhado se recusa a dar continuidade ao nome de seu irmão em Israel; não quer exercer para comigo a obrigação de cunhado." 8 Então os anciãos da cidade devem chamá-lo e falar com ele. Se ele persistir e disser: "Não quero casar com ela", 9 então a cunhada chegará perto dele, na presença dos anciãos, e lhe descalçará a sandália do pé, e lhe cuspirá no rosto, e protestará, dizendo: "Assim se fará com o homem que não quer edificar a casa de seu irmão." 10 E, em Israel, se dará à casa daquele homem o nome de "A casa do descalçado".

11 — Quando dois homens estiverem brigando, um contra o outro, e a mulher de um chegar para livrar o marido da mão daquele que o fere, e ela estender a mão, e o pegar pelo órgão genital, 12 vocês devem cortar a mão dela; não olhem para ela com piedade.

13 — Não levem na bolsa pesos diferentes, um grande e um pequeno. 14 Não tenham em casa dois tipos de medidas, um grande e um pequeno. 15 Usem um peso integral e justo, e uma medida integral e justa; para que se prolonguem os seus dias na terra que o Senhor, seu Deus, lhes dá. 16 Porque todo aquele que pratica tal injustiça é abominação ao Senhor, o Deus de vocês.

17 — Lembrem-se do que os amalequitas fizeram no caminho, quando vocês estavam saindo do Egito. 18 Eles saíram ao encontro de vocês no caminho e, quando vocês estavam abatidos e cansados, atacaram na retaguarda todos os desfalecidos que vinham atrás; e não temeram a Deus. 19 Portanto, quando o Senhor, seu Deus, lhes houver dado sossego de todos os seus inimigos ao redor, na terra que o Senhor, seu Deus, lhes dá por herança, para que dela tomem posse, apaguem a memória dos amalequitas da face da terra; não se esqueçam disto.
