1 And Moses went and spake these words unto all Israel. 2 And he said unto them, I am an hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no more go out and come in: and the LORD hath said unto me, Thou shalt not go over this Jordan. 3 The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee; he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: and Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath spoken. 4 And the LORD shall do unto them as he did to Sihon and to Og, the kings of the Amorites, and unto their land; whom he destroyed. 5 And the LORD shall deliver them up before you, and ye shall do unto them according unto all the commandment which I have commanded you. 6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be affrighted at them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. 7 And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou shalt go with this people into the land which the LORD hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it. 8 And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed. 9 And Moses wrote this law, and delivered it unto the priests the sons of Levi, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, and unto all the elders of Israel. 10 And Moses commanded them, saying, At the end of every seven years, in the set time of the year of release, in the feast of tabernacles, 11 when all Israel is come to appear before the LORD thy God in the place which he shall choose, thou shalt read this law before all Israel in their hearing. 12 Assemble the people, the men and the women and the little ones, and thy stranger that is within thy gates, that they may hear, and that they may learn, and fear the LORD your God, and observe to do all the words of this law; 13 and that their children, which have not known, may hear, and learn to fear the LORD your God, as long as ye live in the land whither ye go over Jordan to possess it. 14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thy days approach that thou must die: call Joshua, and present yourselves in the tent of meeting, that I may give him a charge. And Moses and Joshua went, and presented themselves in the tent of meeting. 15 And the LORD appeared in the Tent in a pillar of cloud: and the pillar of cloud stood over the door of the Tent. 16 And the LORD said unto Moses, Behold, thou shalt sleep with thy fathers; and this people will rise up, and go a whoring after the strange gods of the land, whither they go to be among them, and will forsake me, and break my covenant which I have made with them. 17 Then my anger shall be kindled against them in that day, and I will forsake them, and I will hide my face from them, and they shall be devoured, and many evils and troubles shall come upon them; so that they will say in that day, Are not these evils come upon us because our God is not among us? 18 And I will surely hide my face in that day for all the evil which they shall have wrought, in that they are turned unto other gods. 19 Now therefore write ye this song for you, and teach thou it the children of Israel: put it in their mouths, that this song may be a witness for me against the children of Israel. 20 For when I shall have brought them into the land which I sware unto their fathers, flowing with milk and honey; and they shall have eaten and filled themselves, and waxen fat; then will they turn unto other gods, and serve them, and despise me, and break my covenant. 21 And it shall come to pass, when many evils and troubles are come upon them, that this song shall testify before them as a witness; for it shall not be forgotten out of the mouths of their seed: for I know their imagination which they go about, even now, before I have brought them into the land which I sware. 22 So Moses wrote this song the same day, and taught it the children of Israel. 23 And he gave Joshua the son of Nun a charge, and said, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou shalt bring the children of Israel into the land which I sware unto them: and I will be with thee. 24 And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of writing the words of this law in a book, until they were finished, 25 that Moses commanded the Levites, which bare the ark of the covenant of the LORD, saying, 26 Take this book of the law, and put it by the side of the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, that it may be there for a witness against thee. 27 For I know thy rebellion, and thy stiff neck: behold, while I am yet alive with you this day, ye have been rebellious against the LORD; and how much more after my death? 28 Assemble unto me all the elders of your tribes, and your officers, that I may speak these words in their ears, and call heaven and earth to witness against them. 29 For I know that after my death ye will utterly corrupt yourselves, and turn aside from the way which I have commanded you; and evil will befall you in the latter days; because ye will do that which is evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger through the work of your hands. 30 And Moses spake in the ears of all the assembly of Israel the words of this song, until they were finished.

1 Moisés foi e falou estas palavras a todo o Israel. 2 Ele disse:

— Hoje estou com cento e vinte anos de idade. Já não tenho forças para fazer o meu trabalho, e o Senhor me disse: "Você não passará o Jordão." 3 O Senhor, o Deus de vocês, passará adiante de vocês. Ele destruirá as nações que estão diante de vocês, e vocês tomarão posse delas. Josué passará adiante de vocês, como o Senhor falou. 4 O Senhor fará com essas nações o que fez com Seom e Ogue, reis dos amorreus, e com a terra deles, que ele destruiu. 5 Quando, pois, o Senhor entregar nas suas mãos esses povos que estão diante de vocês, façam com eles segundo todo o mandamento que ordenei a vocês. 6 Sejam fortes e corajosos, não tenham medo, nem fiquem apavorados diante deles, porque o Senhor, seu Deus, é quem vai com vocês; ele não os deixará, nem os abandonará.

7 Moisés chamou Josué e lhe disse na presença de todo o Israel:

— Seja forte e corajoso, porque, com este povo, você entrará na terra que o Senhor, sob juramento, prometeu dar a seus pais; e você os fará herdá-la. 8 O Senhor é quem irá à sua frente. Ele estará com você, não o deixará, nem o abandonará. Não tenha medo, nem fique assustado.

9 Moisés escreveu esta Lei e a entregou aos sacerdotes, filhos de Levi, que levavam a arca da aliança do Senhor, e a todos os anciãos de Israel. 10 Moisés lhes deu a seguinte ordem:

— Ao final de cada sete anos, precisamente no ano do perdão das dívidas, na Festa dos Tabernáculos, 11 quando todo o Israel se apresentar diante do Senhor, seu Deus, no lugar que este escolher, vocês devem ler esta Lei diante de todo o Israel. 12 Reúnam o povo, os homens, as mulheres, as crianças e os estrangeiros que se encontram nas cidades onde vocês moram, para que ouçam, aprendam e temam o Senhor, o Deus de vocês, e cuidem de cumprir todas as palavras desta Lei, 13 e para que os seus filhos que não a souberem ouçam e aprendam a temer o Senhor, seu Deus, todos os dias que viverem na terra em que, passando o Jordão, vocês vão entrar e da qual tomarão posse.

14 O Senhor disse a Moisés:

— Eis que está chegando o dia em que você vai morrer. Chame Josué, e apresentem-se na tenda do encontro, para que eu lhe dê ordens.

Assim, Moisés e Josué foram e se apresentaram na tenda do encontro. 15 Então o Senhor apareceu, ali, na coluna de nuvem, a qual se deteve sobre a porta da tenda. 16 O Senhor disse a Moisés:

— Eis que em breve você vai morrer e então este povo se levantará, e se prostituirá, seguindo deuses estranhos na terra em que vão entrar. Eles me deixarão, e anularão a aliança que fiz com eles. 17 Nesse dia, a minha ira se acenderá contra eles; eu os abandonarei e deles esconderei o rosto, para que sejam destruídos. E tantos males e angústias os alcançarão, que naquele dia dirão: "Não é verdade que estes males nos alcançaram porque o nosso Deus não está entre nós?" 18 Certamente esconderei o rosto naquele dia, por todo o mal que tiverem feito, por terem se voltado para outros deuses.

19 — Escrevam para vocês este cântico e tratem de ensiná-lo aos filhos de Israel. Ponham este cântico na boca de cada um deles, para que me seja por testemunha contra os filhos de Israel. 20 Quando eu tiver introduzido o meu povo na terra que mana leite e mel, a qual, sob juramento, prometi aos pais deles, e eles tiverem comido, se fartado e engordado, então eles se voltarão para outros deuses, os servirão e me desprezarão, anulando a minha aliança. 21 E, quando muitos males e angústias os tiverem alcançado, este cântico será minha testemunha contra eles, pois os descendentes deles sempre o trarão na boca. Porque conheço os desígnios que hoje estão formulando, antes que os leve para a terra que, sob juramento, prometi.

22 Assim, naquele mesmo dia, Moisés escreveu este cântico e o ensinou aos filhos de Israel.

23 O Senhor deu esta ordem a Josué, filho de Num:

— Seja forte e corajoso, porque você levará os filhos de Israel para a terra que, sob juramento, lhes prometi; e eu estarei com você.

24 Tendo Moisés acabado de escrever, integralmente, as palavras desta Lei num livro, 25 deu ordem aos levitas que levavam a arca da aliança do Senhor, dizendo:

26 — Peguem este Livro da Lei e coloquem-no ao lado da arca da aliança do Senhor, seu Deus, para que fique ali como testemunha contra vocês. 27 Porque conheço a rebeldia e teimosia de vocês. Porque se hoje, durante a minha vida, enquanto ainda estou aqui, vocês já são rebeldes contra o Senhor, o que vai acontecer depois da minha morte? 28 Reúnam diante de mim todos os anciãos das tribos e os oficiais, para que eu fale aos seus ouvidos estas palavras e tome o céu e a terra por testemunhas contra eles. 29 Porque sei que, depois da minha morte, vocês certamente se deixarão corromper e se desviarão do caminho que lhes tenho ordenado. Então, nos últimos dias, este mal os alcançará, porque vocês farão o que é mau aos olhos do Senhor, provocando-o à ira com as obras das suas mãos.

30 Então Moisés pronunciou, integralmente, as palavras deste cântico aos ouvidos de toda a congregação de Israel:
