2 "Já ouvi muitas palavras como essas.

Pobres consoladores*16.2 Ou consoladores importunos. são vocês todos!

3 Essas palavras vãs nunca terminarão?

E você, o que o leva a continuar discutindo?

4 Bem que eu poderia falar como vocês,

se estivessem no meu lugar;

eu poderia condená-los com belos discursos

e menear a cabeça contra vocês.

5 Com a minha boca, porém, procuraria encorajá-los;

a consolação dos meus lábios daria alívio para vocês.

6 "Contudo, se falo, a minha dor não é aliviada;

se me calo, acaso ela desaparecerá?

7 Sem dúvida, ó Deus, tu me esgotaste as forças;

deste fim a toda a minha família.

8 Tu me debilitaste, o que é uma testemunha disso;

a minha magreza se levanta e depõe contra mim.

rangeu os dentes contra mim;

11 Deus entregou-me aos ímpios

e atirou-me nas garras dos maus.

12 Eu estava tranquilo, mas ele me arrebentou;

agarrou-me pelo pescoço e esmagou-me.

Fez de mim o seu alvo;

13 os seus flecheiros me cercam.

Ele traspassou sem dó os meus rins

e derramou na terra a minha bílis.

14 Ele me ataca com golpe após golpe;

pisoteia-me como um guerreiro.

16 O meu rosto está rubro de tanto eu chorar,

e densas trevas circundam os meus olhos,

Não haja lugar de repouso para o meu clamor!

19 Saibam que agora mesmo a minha testemunha está nos céus;

nas alturas está o meu advogado.

20 O meu intercessor é meu amigo,*16.20 Ou Meus amigos zombam de mim.

quando diante de Deus correm lágrimas dos meus olhos;

21 ele defende a causa do homem diante de Deus,

como quem defende a causa de um amigo.

22 "Pois, dentro de apenas alguns anos,

eu farei a viagem que não tem volta.
