Ko Ehekiera te Tūtei o Īharaira

Tēnā ia, mehemea ia i tūpato, ka mawhiti i a ia tōna wairua. 6 Engari, ki te kite te tūtei i te hoari e puta ana, ā, kīhai i whakatangi i te tētere, kīhai i whakatūpato i te iwi, ā, ka tae mai te hoari, ka riro tētahi o rātou; ka riro ia i runga i tōna kino, otiia ka rapua e ahau ōna toto i te ringa o te tūtei.

7 "Inā, ko koe, e te tama a te tangata, kua waiho koe e ahau hei tūtei mō te whare o Īharaira; ā, me whakarongo koe ki te kupu a tōku māngai, ko koe anō tāku hei whakatūpato i a rātou. 8 Ki te mea ahau ki te tangata kino, ‘E te tangata kino, ko te mate kau mōu,’ ki te kore koe e kōrero, e whakatūpato i te tangata kino ki tōna ara; ka mate taua tangata kino i runga i tōna hē, ka rapua ia e ahau ōna toto i tōu ringa. 9 Tēnā ko tēnei, ka whakatūpato koe i te tangata kino ki tōna ara, kia tahuri mai ia i reira, ā, e kore ia e tahuri mai i tōna ara; ka mate ia i runga i tōna kino, ka ora ia i a koe tōu wairua."

10 "Nā, ko koe e te tama a te tangata, kōrero ki te whare o Īharaira, ‘Ko tā koutou kī tēnei, e mea nā koutou: "Kei runga i a mātou ō mātou hē, ō mātou hara, ā, ka memeha atu mātou i runga i aua hē; mā te aha rā mātou ka ora ai?" ’ 11 Mea atu ki a rātou, ‘E ora ana ahau, e ai tā te Ariki, tā Ihowā, kāhore ōku ngākau koa ki te matenga o te tangata kino; engari kia tahuri te tangata kino i tōna ara, kia ora; tahuri mai, tahuri mai koutou i ō koutou ara kino; kia mate hoki koutou hei aha, e te whare o Īharaira?’

12 "Nā, ko koe, e te tama a te tangata, me kī atu ki ngā tamariki a tōu iwi, ‘E kore te tika o te tangata tika e whakaora i a ia i te rā e poka kē ai ia; me te kino anō o te tangata kino e kore tērā e whakahinga i a ia i te rā e tahuri mai ai ia i tōna kino; e kore anō te tangata tika e ora i tōna tika i te rā e hara ai ia.’ 13 Ki te mea ahau ki te tangata tika, ka ora ia; ā, ka whakawhirinaki ia ki tōna tika, ka mahi hoki i te hē, e kore āna mahi tika katoa e maharatia; engari ka mate ia i runga i tōna hē i mahia e ia. 14 Ki te mea anō ahau ki te tangata kino, ‘Ko te mate kau mōu,’ ā, ka tahuri mai ia i tōna hara, ka mahi i te mea e tika ana, e rite ana – 15 ki te whakahokia te taunaha e te tangata kino, ki te utua te mea i pāhuatia e ia, ki te haere ia i runga i ngā tikanga o te ora, ā, ka kore e mahi i te hē – he pono ka ora ia, e kore ia e mate. 16 E kore tētahi o ōna hara i hara ai ia e maharatia ki a ia. Kua mahia e ia te mea e tika ana, e rite ana; he pono ka ora ia.

17 "Heoi, kei te mea ngā tamariki a tōu iwi, ‘Kāhore e rite te ara o te Ariki.’ Nā, ko rātou nei, kāhore tō rātou ara e rite. 18 Ki te tahuri atu te tangata tika i tōna tika, ā, ka mahia e ia te hē, ka mate ia i aua hē. 19 Ki te tahuri mai anō te tangata kino i tōna kino, ā, ka mahia e ia te mea e tika ana, e rite ana, ka ai ēnā hei whakaora i a ia. 20 Heoi, kei te mea nā koutou, ‘Kāhore e rite te ara o te Ariki.’ E te whare o Īharaira, ka rite ki tōna ara, ki tōna ara, tāku whakawā mō koutou."

Te Hingaanga o Hiruhārama

21 Nā, i te tekau mā rua o ngā tau o tō mātou whakaraunga, i te tekau o ngā marama, i te rima o ngā rā o te marama, ka tae mai ki ahau tētahi o ngā oranga o Hiruhārama, ā, ka mea, "Kua patua te pā." 22 Nā, kua pā te ringa o Ihowā ki ahau i te ahiahi i mua ake o te taenga mai o taua oranga nei; meinga ana e ia kia kuihi tōku māngai, ā tae noa mai ia ki ahau i te ata. Nā, kua meinga e ia kia kuihi tōku māngai, ā, kore ake tōku wahangū.

23 Nā, ka puta mai te kupu a Ihowā ki ahau, i kī ia: 24 "E te tama a te tangata, ko te hunga e noho ana i ēnei ururua i te whenua o Īharaira, e kōrero ana, e mea ana, ‘He kotahi a Āperahama, ā, riro ana i a ia te whenua; ko tātou ia he tokomaha; kua hōmai te whenua ki a tātou hei kāinga tupu.’ 25 Mō reira kī atu ki a rātou, Ko te kupu tēnei a te Ariki, a Ihowā: Ko tā koutou kai, he mea kīnaki ki te toto, e anga ana hoki ō koutou kanohi ki ā koutou whakapakoko, e whakaheke toto ana hoki koutou; ā, e mau rānei te whenua i a koutou? 26 Ko tō koutou tūranga ko ā koutou hoari, e mahia ana e koutou te mea whakarihariha, e whakapokea ana e koutou te wahine a tōna hoa, a tōna hoa; ā, e mau rānei te whenua i a koutou?

27 "Kia pēnei tāu kī atu ki a rātou: Ko te kupu tēnei a te Ariki, a Ihowā: E ora ana ahau, inā, ka hinga i te hoari te hunga i ngā ururua, ā, ko te tangata i te mata o te pārae, ka hoatu ia e ahau hei kai mā ngā kīrehe, ā, ko te hunga i ngā taumaihi, i ngā ana, ka mate rātou i te mate urutā. 28 Ka ururua rawa i ahau te whenua, ka waiho hei keteketenga, ā, ka mutu te whakapehapeha o tōna kaha; ka ururua anō ngā maunga o Īharaira, e kore e haerea e te tangata. 29 Ā, ka mōhio rātou ko Ihowā ahau, ina meinga e ahau te whenua hei ururua, hei keteketenga, mō ā rātou mea whakarihariha katoa i mea ai rātou.

30 "Nā, ko koe, e te tama a te tangata, e kōmuhumuhua ana koe e ngā tama a tōu iwi i te taha o ngā pakitara, i ngā tatau anō o ngā whare, e kōrerorero ana tētahi ki tētahi, ki tōna hoa, ki tōna hoa, e mea ana, ‘Tēnā, kia haere tātou, kia rongo ai tātou i te kupu e puta mai ana i a Ihowā.’ 31 Ā, ko tā rātou haere mai ki a koe rite tonu ki te haerenga mai o te iwi; ko tā rātou noho i tōu aroaro rite tonu anō ki tō tāku iwi; e rongo ana hoki rātou ki āu kupu, kāhore ia e mahi. 33 "Ā, ina puta tēnei – nanā, tēnei te haere mai nei – kātahi rātou ka mōhio tēnei tonu he poropiti i roto i a rātou e noho ana."

1 And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, and the people of the land take a man from among them, and set him for their watchman; 3 if, when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people; 4 then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning, if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head. 5 He heard the sound of the trumpet, and took not warning; his blood shall be upon him; whereas if he had taken warning, he would have delivered his soul. 6 But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned, and the sword come, and take any person from among them; he is taken away in his iniquity, but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand.

7 So thou, son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore hear the word at my mouth, and give them warning from me. 8 When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die, and thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way; that wicked man shall die in his iniquity, but his blood will I require at thy hand. 9 Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it, and he turn not from his way; he shall die in his iniquity, but thou hast delivered thy soul.

10 And thou, son of man, say unto the house of Israel: Thus ye speak, saying, Our transgressions and our sins are upon us, and we pine away in them; how then can we live? 11 Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel? 12 And thou, son of man, say unto the children of thy people, The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his transgression; and as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turneth from his wickedness; neither shall he that is righteous be able to live thereby in the day that he sinneth. 13 When I say to the righteous, that he shall surely live; if he trust to his righteousness, and commit iniquity, none of his righteous deeds shall be remembered; but in his iniquity that he hath committed, therein shall he die. 14 Again, when I say unto the wicked, Thou shalt surely die; if he turn from his sin, and do that which is lawful and right; 15 if the wicked restore the pledge, give again that which he had taken by robbery, walk in the statutes of life, committing no iniquity; he shall surely live, he shall not die. 16 None of his sins that he hath committed shall be remembered against him: he hath done that which is lawful and right; he shall surely live.

17 Yet the children of thy people say, The way of the Lord is not equal: but as for them, their way is not equal. 18 When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die therein. 19 And when the wicked turneth from his wickedness, and doeth that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby. 20 Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. O house of Israel, I will judge you every one after his ways.

21 And it came to pass in the twelfth year of our captivity, in the tenth month, in the fifth day of the month, that one that had escaped out of Jerusalem came unto me, saying, The city is smitten. 22 Now the hand of Jehovah had been upon me in the evening, before he that was escaped came; and he had opened my mouth, until he came to me in the morning; and my mouth was opened, and I was no more dumb.

23 And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 24 Son of man, they that inhabit those waste places in the land of Israel speak, saying, Abraham was one, and he inherited the land: but we are many; the land is given us for inheritance. 25 Wherefore say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Ye eat with the blood, and lift up your eyes unto your idols, and shed blood: and shall ye possess the land? 26 Ye stand upon your sword, ye work abomination, and ye defile every one his neighbor’s wife: and shall ye possess the land? 27 Thus shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: As I live, surely they that are in the waste places shall fall by the sword; and him that is in the open field will I give to the beasts to be devoured; and they that are in the strongholds and in the caves shall die of the pestilence. 28 And I will make the land a desolation and an astonishment; and the pride of her power shall cease; and the mountains of Israel shall be desolate, so that none shall pass through. 29 Then shall they know that I am Jehovah, when I have made the land a desolation and an astonishment, because of all their abominations which they have committed.

30 And as for thee, son of man, the children of thy people talk of thee by the walls and in the doors of the houses, and speak one to another, every one to his brother, saying, Come, I pray you, and hear what is the word that cometh forth from Jehovah. 31 And they come unto thee as the people cometh, and they sit before thee as my people, and they hear thy words, but do them not; for with their mouth they show much love, but their heart goeth after their gain. 32 And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument; for they hear thy words, but they do them not. 33 And when this cometh to pass (behold, it cometh), then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.
