Ka Whakakinotia a Īharaira

1 "Nā, whakahuatia he tangi mō ngā rangatira o Īharaira, 2 mea atu hoki:

‘He aha tōu whaea? He raiona uha;

i roto ia i ngā raiona e takoto ana,

ko āna kūao he mea whakatupu nāna

i roto i ngā raiona.

3 Nā, atawhaitia ake ana e ia tētahi o āna kūao;

kua rahi.

Kua ako ki te hopu tūpāpaku māna;

kua kai tāngata.

4 I rongo anō ngā iwi ki a ia;

i mau ia ki roto ki tā rātou poka.

Nā, kawea ana e rātou, mekameka rawa,

ki te whenua o Īhipa.

5 " ‘Nā, i tōna kitenga he tatari kau tāna

ā, kua kore tāna i tūmanako ai,

nā, ka mau ki tētahi atu o āna kūao,

meinga ana e ia hei kūao rahi.

6 Nā, kei te hāereere tērā i roto i ngā raiona,

kua rahi.

Kua ako ki te hopu tūpāpaku māna;

kua kai tāngata.

7 I mōhio anō ia ki ō rātou whare kīngi,

whakaururuatia ana e ia ō rātou pā;

mōtī iho te whenua me ōna tini mea

i te haruru o tōna hāmama.

8 Kātahi ia ka whakaekea e ngā iwi o ngā kāwanatanga

i tētahi taha, i tētahi taha;

horahia ana e rātou he kupenga ki runga ki a ia;

kua mau ia ki roto ki tā rātou poka.

9 Nā, ka tūtakina atu ia, mea rawa ki te mekameka,

ka kawea ki te kīngi o Papurōna.

I kawea ia ki ngā pā kaha,

kia kore ai tōna reo e rangona

i muri ki runga ki ngā maunga o Īharaira.

10 " ‘I rite tōu whaea ki te wāina, ōu toto nā anō,

he mea whakatō ki te taha o ngā wai.

He mea whai hua, he mea whai manga,

he maha hoki nō ngā wai.

11 He peka kaha anō ōna

hei hēpeta mō ngā kīngi;

pūrero tonu rātou, roa tonu,

i roto i ngā manga pūruru,

i kitea atu rātou e pūrero ana,

me ōna manga maha.

12 Otiia, i hūtia ia i runga i te āritarita,

makā iho ki te whenua,

maroke ake ōna hua i te hau marangai;

i whatiwhatiia ōna peka kaha,

maroke ake;

kainga ake e te ahi.

13 Nā ināianei, kua oti ia te whakatō ki te koraha,

ki te whenua maroke, waikore.

14 Ā, kua puta atu he ahi i roto i ngā peka o ōna manga,

pau ake ōna hua;

kore ake ōna peka kaha

hei hēpeta kīngi.’

He tangi tēnei, ka waiho anō hei tangi."

1 Moreover, take thou up a lamentation for the princes of Israel, 2 and say, What was thy mother? A lioness: she couched among lions, in the midst of the young lions she nourished her whelps. 3 And she brought up one of her whelps: he became a young lion, and he learned to catch the prey; he devoured men. 4 The nations also heard of him; he was taken in their pit; and they brought him with hooks unto the land of Egypt. 5 Now when she saw that she had waited, and her hope was lost, then she took another of her whelps, and made him a young lion. 6 And he went up and down among the lions; he became a young lion, and he learned to catch the prey; he devoured men. 7 And he knew their palaces, and laid waste their cities; and the land was desolate, and the fulness thereof, because of the noise of his roaring. 8 Then the nations set against him on every side from the provinces; and they spread their net over him; he was taken in their pit. 9 And they put him in a cage with hooks, and brought him to the king of Babylon; they brought him into strongholds, that his voice should no more be heard upon the mountains of Israel.

10 Thy mother was like a vine, in thy blood, planted by the waters: it was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters. 11 And it had strong rods for the sceptres of them that bare rule, and their stature was exalted among the thick boughs, and they were seen in their height with the multitude of their branches. 12 But it was plucked up in fury, it was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up its fruit: its strong rods were broken off and withered; the fire consumed them. 13 And now it is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty land. 14 And fire is gone out of the rods of its branches, it hath devoured its fruit, so that there is in it no strong rod to be a sceptre to rule. This is a lamentation, and shall be for a lamentation.
