1 O Senhor disse a Moisés:

2 — Fale aos filhos de Israel e receba deles bordões, um pela casa de cada pai de todos os seus chefes, segundo as casas de seus pais, isto é, doze bordões; escreva o nome de cada um sobre o seu bordão. 3 Porém o nome de Arão você escreverá sobre o bordão de Levi; porque cada cabeça da casa de seus pais terá um bordão. 4 Ponha esses bordões na tenda do encontro, diante da arca do testemunho, onde eu me encontro com vocês. 5 O bordão do homem que eu escolher, esse florescerá; assim, farei cessar as murmurações que os filhos de Israel proferem contra vocês.

6 Então Moisés falou aos filhos de Israel, e todos os seus chefes lhe deram bordões; cada um lhe deu um, segundo as casas de seus pais: doze bordões; e, entre eles, estava o bordão de Arão. 7 Moisés pôs estes bordões diante do Senhor, na tenda do testemunho.

8 No dia seguinte, Moisés entrou na tenda do testemunho, e eis que o bordão de Arão, pela casa de Levi, havia brotado, e, tendo feito sair brotos, havia produzido flores e dava amêndoas. 9 Então Moisés trouxe todos os bordões de diante do Senhor a todos os filhos de Israel; e eles olharam, e cada um pegou o seu bordão.

10 O Senhor disse a Moisés:

— Torne a pôr o bordão de Arão diante da arca do testemunho, para que se guarde por sinal para filhos rebeldes. Assim você fará acabar as murmurações que eles proferem contra mim, para que não morram.

11 E Moisés fez assim. Como o Senhor lhe havia ordenado, assim fez. 12 Então os filhos de Israel disseram a Moisés:

— Eis que vamos morrer! Estamos perdidos! Estamos todos perdidos! 13 Todo aquele que se aproximar do tabernáculo do Senhor morrerá. Será que todos vamos morrer?

1 Then spake Yahweh unto Moses, saying:

2 Speak unto he sans of Israel and take of them one staff each for an ancestral house of all their princes, by their ancestral houses, twelve staves,each mans name, shalt thou write upon his staff;

3 and, Aarons name, shalt thou write upon the staff of Levi,for, one staff, shall there be for the head of their ancestral house.

4 Then shalt thou lay them up in the tent of meeting,before the testimony, where I meet with you.

5 So shall it come to pass, that, the man whom I shall choose, his staff, shall bud,so will I cause to cease from against me the murmurings of the sons of Israel, wherewith they, are murmuring against you.

6 And Moses spake unto the sons of Israel and every one of their princes gave unto him, a staff apiece, for each prince, by their ancestral houses, twelve staves,and the staff of Aaron, was in the midst of their staves.

7 So Moses laid up the staves before Yahweh,in the tent of the testimony.

8 And it came to pass, on the morrow, that Moses entered into the tent of the testimony; and lo! the staff of Aaron for the house of Levi, had budded,yea it had brought forth buds and bloomed blossoms, and borne ripe almonds.

9 So then Moses brought forth all the staves, from before Yahweh, unto all the sons of Israel,and they saw and took, each man his own staff.

10 And Yahweh said unto MosesPut back the rod of Aaron, before the testimony, to be kept as a sign unto such as are perverse,that thou mayest bring to an end their murmurings against me that they die not.

11 Thus did Moses,as Yahweh commanded him, so, did he.

12 Then spake the sons of Israel unto Moses saying: Lo! we have breathed our lastwe are lost, we are, all, lost:

13 whosoever draweth neardraweth nearunto the habitation of Yahweh, dieth,are we ever to have made an end of breathing our last?
