1 O Senhor, nosso Deus, diz:

"Consolem, consolem o meu povo.

2 Falem carinhosamente aos moradores de Jerusalém

e digam-lhes que já terminou a sua escravidão

e que os seus pecados foram perdoados.

Eles receberam de mim duas vezes mais castigos

do que os pecados que cometeram."

3 Alguém está gritando:

"Preparem no deserto um caminho para o Senhor,

abram ali uma estrada reta para o nosso Deus passar!

4 Todos os vales serão aterrados,

e todos os morros e montes serão aplanados;

os terrenos cheios de altos e baixos ficarão planos,

e as regiões montanhosas virarão planícies.

5 Então o Senhor mostrará a sua glória,

e toda a humanidade a verá.

O próprio Senhor Deus prometeu que vai fazer isso."

6 Alguém diz: "Anuncie a mensagem!"

"O que devo anunciar?" — eu pergunto.

"Anuncie que todos os seres humanos são como a erva do campo

e toda a força deles é como uma flor do mato.

7 A erva seca, e as flores caem

quando o sopro do Senhor passa por elas.

De fato, o povo é como a erva.

8 A erva seca, a flor cai,

mas a palavra do nosso Deus dura para sempre."

9 Você, mensageiro de boas notícias para Jerusalém,

suba um alto monte;

você, mensageiro de boas notícias para Sião,

entregue a sua mensagem em voz alta.

Fale sem medo com as cidades de Judá

e anuncie bem alto:

"O seu Deus está chegando!"

10 O Senhor Deus vem vindo cheio de força;

com o seu braço poderoso, ele conseguiu a vitória.

E ele traz consigo o povo que ele salvou.

11 Como um pastor cuida do seu rebanho,

assim o Senhor cuidará do seu povo;

ele juntará os carneirinhos, e os carregará no colo,

e guiará com carinho as ovelhas que estão amamentando.

12 Quem mediu a água do mar com as conchas das mãos

ou mediu o céu com os dedos?

Quem, usando uma vasilha, calculou

quanta terra existe no mundo inteiro

ou pesou as montanhas e os morros numa balança?

13 Quem pode conhecer a mente do Senhor?

Quem é capaz de lhe dar conselhos?

14 Quem lhe deu lições ou ensinamentos?

Quem lhe ensinou a julgar com justiça

ou quis fazê-lo aprender mais coisas

ou procurou lhe mostrar como ser sábio?

15 Para o Senhor, todas as nações do mundo

são como uma gota de água num balde,

como um grão de poeira na balança;

ele carrega as ilhas distantes como se fossem um grão de areia.

16 Em toda a região do Líbano, não há animais suficientes

para um sacrifício como Deus merece,

nem árvores que cheguem para os queimar.

17 Para ele, as nações não são nada;

na presença dele, elas não têm nenhum valor.

18 Com quem Deus pode ser comparado?

Com o que ele se parece?

19 Ele não é como uma imagem feita por um artista,

que um ourives reveste de ouro

e cobre de enfeites de prata.

20 Quem não pode comprar ouro ou prata

escolhe madeira de lei

e procura um artista competente

que faça uma imagem que fique firme no seu lugar.

21 Será que vocês não sabem?

Será que nunca ouviram falar disso?

Não lhes contaram há muito tempo

como o mundo foi criado?

22 O Criador de todas as coisas

é aquele que se assenta no seu trono no céu;

ele está tão longe da terra,

que os seres humanos lhe parecem tão pequenos como formigas.

Foi ele quem estendeu os céus como um véu,

quem os armou como uma barraca para neles morar.

23 É ele quem rebaixa reis poderosos

e tira altas autoridades do poder.

24 Eles são como plantas que brotaram há pouco

e quase não têm raízes.

Quando Deus sopra neles, eles murcham,

e a ventania os leva para longe, como se fossem palha.

25 Com quem vocês vão comparar o Santo Deus?

Quem é igual a ele?

26 Olhem para o céu e vejam as estrelas.

Quem foi que as criou?

Foi aquele que as faz sair em ordem como um exército;

ele sabe quantas são

e chama cada uma pelo seu nome.

A sua força e o seu poder são tão grandes,

que nenhuma delas deixa de responder.

27 Povo de Israel, por que você se queixa, dizendo:

"O Senhor não se importa conosco,

o nosso Deus não se interessa pela nossa situação"?

28 Será que vocês não sabem?

Será que nunca ouviram falar disso?

O Senhor é o Deus Eterno,

ele criou o mundo inteiro.

Ele não se cansa, não fica fatigado;

ninguém pode medir a sua sabedoria.

29 Aos cansados ele dá novas forças

e enche de energia os fracos.

30 Até os jovens se cansam,

e os moços tropeçam e caem;

31 mas os que confiam no Senhor

recebem sempre novas forças.

Voam nas alturas como águias,

correm e não perdem as forças,

andam e não se cansam.

1 My puple, be ye coumfortid, be ye coumfortid, seith youre Lord God.2 Speke ye to the herte of Jerusalem, and clepe ye it, for the malice therof is fillid, the wickidnesse therof is foryouun; it hath resseyued of the hond of the Lord double thingis for alle hise synnes.3 The vois of a crier in desert, Make ye redi the weie of the Lord, make ye riytful the pathis of oure God in wildirnesse.4 Ech valey schal be enhaunsid, and ech mounteyn and litil hil schal be maad low; and schrewid thingis schulen be in to streiyt thingis, and scharpe thingis schulen be in to pleyn weies.5 And the glorie of the Lord schal be schewid, and ech man schal se togidere, that the mouth of the Lord hath spoke.6 The vois of God, seiynge, Crie thou. And Y seide, What schal Y crie? Ech fleisch is hei, and al the glorie therof is as the flour of the feeld.7 The hei is dried vp, and the flour felle doun, for the spirit of the Lord bleew therynne.8 Verely the puple is hey; the hey is dried vp, and the flour felle doun; but the word of the Lord dwellith with outen ende.9 Thou that prechist to Sion, stie on an hiy hil; thou that prechist to Jerusalem, enhaunse thi vois in strengthe; enhaunse thou, nyle thou drede; seie thou to the citees of Juda, Lo! youre God.10 Lo! the Lord God schal come in strengthe, and his arm schal holde lordschipe; lo! his mede is with hym, and his werk is bifore hym.11 As a scheepherd he schal fede his flok, he schal gadere lambreen in his arm, and he schal reise in his bosom; he schal bere scheep `with lomb.12 Who mat watris in a fist, and peiside heuenes with a spanne? Who peiside the heuynesse of the erthe with thre fyngris, and weide mounteyns in a weihe, and litle hillis in a balaunce?13 Who helpide the Spirit of the Lord, ether who was his councelour, and schewide to hym?14 With whom took he councel, and who lernyde hym, and tauyte hym the path of riytfulnesse, and lernyde hym in kunnyng, and schewyde to him the weie of prudence?15 Lo! folkis ben as a drope of a boket, and ben arettid as the tunge of a balaunce; lo!16 ylis ben as a litil dust, and the Liban schal not suffice to brenne his sacrifice, and the beestis therof schulen not suffice to brent sacrifice.17 Alle folkis ben so bifore hym, as if thei ben not; and thei ben rettid as no thing and veyn thing to hym.18 To whom therfor maden ye God lijk? ether what ymage schulen ye sette to hym?19 Whether a smyth schal welle togidere an ymage, ether a gold smyth schal figure it in gold, and a worchere in siluer schal diyte it with platis of siluer?20 A wijs crafti man chees a strong tre, and vnable to be rotun; he sekith how he schal ordeyne a symylacre, that schal not be mouyd.21 Whether ye witen not? whether ye herden not? whether it was not teld to you fro the begynnynge? whether ye vndurstoden not the foundementis of erthe?22 Which sittith on the cumpas of erthe, and the dwelleris therof ben as locustis; which stretchith forth heuenes as nouyt, and spredith abrood tho as a tabernacle to dwelle.23 Which yyueth the sercheris of priuytees, as if thei be not, and made the iugis of erthe as a veyn thing.24 And sotheli whanne the stok of hem is nether plauntid, nether is sowun, nether is rootid in erthe, he bleew sudenli on hem, and thei drieden vp, and a whirle wynd schal take hem awei as stobil.25 And to what thing `ye han licned me, and han maad euene? seith the hooli.26 Reise youre iyen an hiy, and se ye, who made these thingis of nouyt; which ledith out in noumbre the kniythod of tho, and clepith alle bi name, for the multitude of his strengthe, and stalworthnesse, and vertu; nether o residue thing was.27 Whi seist thou, Jacob, and spekist thou, Israel, My weie is hid fro the Lord, and my doom passide fro my God?28 Whether thou knowist not, ether herdist thou not? God, euerlastynge Lord, that made of nouyt the endis of erthe, schal not faile, nether schal trauele, nether enserchyng of his wisdom is.29 That yyueth vertu to the weeri, and strengthe to hem that ben not, and multiplieth stalworthnesse.30 Children schulen faile, and schulen trauele, and yonge men schulen falle doun in her sikenesse.31 But thei that hopen in the Lord, schulen chaunge strengthe, thei schulen take fetheris as eglis; thei schulen renne, and schulen not trauele; thei schulen go, and schulen not faile.
