1 Os sacerdotes levitas e todo o restante da tribo de Levi, não terão posse nem herança em Israel. Viverão das ofertas sacrificadas para o Senhor, preparadas no fogo, pois esta é a sua herança.2 Não terão herança alguma entre os seus compatriotas; o Senhor é a sua herança, conforme lhes prometeu.3 Quando o povo sacrificar um novilho ou uma ovelha, os sacerdotes receberão a porção devida: o espádua, as queixadas e o estômago.4 Vocês terão que dar-lhes as primícias do trigo, do vinho e do azeite, e a primeira lã da tosquia das ovelhas,5 pois, de todas as tribos, o Senhor, o seu Deus, escolheu os levitas e os seus descendentes para estarem na presença do Senhor, e para ministrarem sempre em seu nome.6 Se um levita que estiver morando em qualquer cidade de Israel, desejar ir ao local escolhido pelo Senhor,7 poderá ministrar em nome do Senhor, do seu Deus, à semelhança de todos os outros levitas que ali servem na presença do Senhor.8 Ele receberá uma porção de alimento igual à dos outros levitas; além disso, ficará com o que receber com a venda dos bens da sua família.9 Quando entrarem na terra que o Senhor, o seu Deus, lhes dá, não procurem imitar as coisas repugnantes que as nações de lá praticam.10 Não permitam que se ache alguém entre vocês que queime em sacrifício o seu filho ou a sua filha; que pratique adivinhação, ou dedique-se à magia, ou faça presságios, ou pratique feitiçaria11 ou faça encantamentos; que seja médium ou espírita ou que consulte os mortos.12 O Senhor têm repugnância por quem pratica essas coisas, e é por causa dessas abominações que o Senhor, o seu Deus, vai expulsar aquelas nações da presença de vocês.13 Permaneçam inculpáveis perante o Senhor, o seu Deus.14 As nações que vocês vão expulsar dão ouvidos aos que praticam magia e adivinhação. Mas, a vocês, o Senhor, o seu Deus, não permitiu tais práticas.15 O Senhor, o seu Deus, levantará do meio de seus próprios irmãos um profeta como eu; ouçam-no.16 Pois foi isso que pediram ao Senhor, ao seu Deus, em Horebe, no dia em que se reuniram, quando disseram: "Não queremos ouvir a voz do Senhor, do nosso Deus, nem ver o seu grande fogo, se não morreremos! "17 O Senhor me disse: "Eles têm razão!18 Levantarei do meio dos seus irmãos um profeta como você; porei minhas palavras na sua boca, e ele lhes dirá tudo o que eu lhe ordenar.19 Se alguém não ouvir as minhas palavras, que o profeta falará em meu nome, eu mesmo lhe pedirei contas.20 Mas o profeta que ousar falar em meu nome alguma coisa que não lhe ordenei, ou que falar em nome de outros deuses, terá que ser morto".21 Mas vocês perguntem a si mesmos: "Como saberemos se uma mensagem não vem do Senhor? "22 Se o que o profeta proclamar em nome do Senhor não acontecer nem se cumprir, essa mensagem não vem do Senhor. Aquele profeta falou com presunção. Não tenham medo dele.

1 The priests the Levites, [even] all the tribe of Levi, will have no portion nor inheritance with Israel: they will eat the offerings of Yahweh made by fire, and his inheritance.2 And they will have no inheritance among their brothers: Yahweh is their inheritance, as he has spoken to them.3 And this will be the priests' due from the people, from those who offer a sacrifice, whether it is ox or sheep, that they will give to the priest the shoulder, and the two cheeks, and the maw.4 The first fruits of your grain, of your new wine, and of your oil, and the first of the fleece of your sheep, you will give to him.5 For Yahweh your God has chosen him out of all your tribes, to stand to minister in the name of Yahweh, him and his sons forever.6 And if a Levite comes from any of your gates out of all Israel, where he sojourns, and comes with all the desire of his soul to the place which Yahweh will choose;7 then he will minister in the name of Yahweh his God, as all his brothers the Levites do, who stand there before Yahweh.8 They will have like portions to eat, besides that which comes of the sale of his patrimony.9 When you come into the land which Yahweh your God gives you, you will not learn to follow the disgusting behaviors of those nations.10 There will not be found with you anyone who makes his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, one telling the future, one interpreting omens, or one who uses magic, or a sorcerer,11 or one casting spells, or one requesting a spirit, or a wizard, or one inquiring of the dead.12 For whoever does these things is disgusting to Yahweh: and because of these disgusting things Yahweh your God drives them out from before you.13 You will be perfect with Yahweh your God.14 For these nations that you will dispossess, listen to psychics and fortune-tellers; but as for you, Yahweh your God has not allowed you to do so.15 Yahweh your God will raise up to you a prophet from the midst of you, of your brothers, like me; to him you{+} will listen;16 according to all that you desired of Yahweh your God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Don't let me hear again the voice of Yahweh my God, neither let me see this great fire anymore, that I will not die.17 And Yahweh said to me, They have said well that which they have spoken.18 I will raise them up a prophet from among their brothers, like you; and I will put my words in his mouth, and he will speak to them all that I will command him.19 And it will come to pass, that whoever will not listen to my words which he will speak in my name, I will require it of him.20 But the prophet, that will speak a word presumptuously in my name, which I haven't commanded him to speak, or that will speak in the name of other gods, that same prophet will die.21 And if you say in your heart, How shall we know the word which Yahweh has not spoken?22 When a prophet speaks in the name of Yahweh, if the thing does not follow, nor come to pass, that is the thing which Yahweh has not spoken: the prophet has spoken it presumptuously, you will not be afraid of him.
