1 Ó Jezreel, chama o teu irmão pelo nome de Ami (meu povo) e a tua irmã pelo nome de Ruama (tem misericórdia), porque agora Deus terá misericórdia dela!

2 Contestem junto da vossa mãe, porque se tornou na mulher doutro homem; eu já não sou seu marido; peçam-lhe que pare com a sua vida de prostituição, que pare de se entregar a outros. 3 Se não o fizer, deixá-la-ei inteiramente despida, como no dia em que nasceu, e fá-la-ei perder-se e morrer de sede, como numa terra desértica, assolada pela fome e pela seca. 4 Não me compadecerei dos seus filhos como faria se fossem os meus próprios; eles pertencem a outra gente.

5 A sua mãe cometeu adultério, conduziu-se torpemente quando disse: ‘Irei atrás doutros homens; vender-me-ei em troca de boa comida, bebida, e roupas de lã e de linho.’ 6 Portanto, cercá-la-ei de espinhos e de sarças; bloquearei os seus caminhos para que se perca nas suas veredas. 7 Assim, quando correr atrás dos seus amantes, não os apanhará. Irá à procura deles mas não os encontrará. Dirá então para consigo: ‘Tornarei para o meu primeiro marido, porque estava melhor com ele do que estou agora!’

8 Ela não se dá conta de que tudo o que possui veio de mim. Fui eu quem lhe deu o trigo, o vinho novo e o azeite, todo o ouro e a prata que usou no culto que prestou a Baal, o seu deus!

9 Por isso, recuperarei o vinho e o trigo que constantemente lhe forneci e a roupa que lhe dei para cobrir a sua nudez; não mais lhe darei ricas colheitas na estação própria e vinho no tempo das vindimas. 10 Exporei a sua nudez em público, para que a vejam todos os seus amantes, e ninguém poderá livrá-la das minhas mãos.

11,12 Porei um fim a todos os seus divertimentos, festas e feriados. Destruirei as suas vinhas e pomares, presentes que diz terem sido oferecidos pelos amantes, que se tornarão em bosques inóspitos; só animais selvagens por lá andarão, comendo os frutos que encontrarem.

13 Por todo o incenso que ela queimou a Baal, o seu ídolo, e por todas as vezes em que pôs brincos e gargantilhas e saiu à procura dos amantes, esquecendo-se de mim, por tudo isso a castigarei, diz o Senhor.

14 Contudo, tornarei a atraí-la; hei de trazê-la para o deserto e falar-lhe ao coração. 15 Devolver-lhe-ei as suas vinhas, transformarei o seu vale de Acor*2.15 Ver Js 7.24-26.(vale da Desgraça) numa porta de esperança. Ela me responderá ali, cantando com alegria, como nos dias primeiros da sua juventude, depois que a libertei do cativeiro do Egito.

16 Naquele dia que há de vir, Israel chamar-me-á ‘Meu marido’ em vez de ‘Meu mestre, Baal’. 17 Ó Israel, farei com que te esqueças do nome do deus Baal! Os seus nomes nunca mais serão proferidos no meio de ti!

18 Farei uma aliança entre ti e os animais selvagens, as aves, as serpentes, para que não tenham mais medo uns dos outros; destruirei tudo o que for armamento e as guerras acabarão.

Tu descansarás em paz e em segurança, sem nada recear. 19 Ligar-te-ei a mim para sempre com cadeias de justiça e retidão, de amor e misericórdia. 20 Desposar-te-ei em fidelidade e amor; conhecer-me-ás como Senhor!

21 Nesse dia, diz o Senhor, responderei aos rogos dirigidos ao céu, para que venham nuvens que derramem chuva sobre a terra, para que haja água. 22 Então a terra poderá responder com trigo, vinho novo e azeite, e todos estes produtos responderão a Jezreel (sementeira de Deus)!

23 Nesse tempo, farei uma sementeira de israelitas que há de crescer só para mim! Terei compaixão dos que estão sem misericórdia; direi àqueles que não são meus: Agora são meu povo! E estes responderão: ‘Tu és o nosso Deus!’ "

1 Say ye unto your brethren, Ammi; and to your sisters, Ru-hamah. *2.1 Ammi: that is, My people*2.1 Ru-hamah: that is, Having obtained mercy 2 Plead with your mother, plead: for she is not my wife, neither am I her husband: let her therefore put away her whoredoms out of her sight, and her adulteries from between her breasts; 3 Lest I strip her naked, and set her as in the day that she was born, and make her as a wilderness, and set her like a dry land, and slay her with thirst. 4 And I will not have mercy upon her children; for they be the children of whoredoms. 5 For their mother hath played the harlot: she that conceived them hath done shamefully: for she said, I will go after my lovers, that give me my bread and my water, my wool and my flax, mine oil and my drink.*2.5 drink: Heb. drinks

6 Therefore, behold, I will hedge up thy way with thorns, and make a wall, that she shall not find her paths.*2.6 make…: Heb. wall a wall 7 And she shall follow after her lovers, but she shall not overtake them; and she shall seek them, but shall not find them: then shall she say, I will go and return to my first husband; for then was it better with me than now. 8 For she did not know that I gave her corn, and wine, and oil, and multiplied her silver and gold, which they prepared for Baal.*2.8 wine: Heb. new wine*2.8 which…: or, wherewith they made Baal 9 Therefore will I return, and take away my corn in the time thereof, and my wine in the season thereof, and will recover my wool and my flax given to cover her nakedness.*2.9 recover: or, take away 10 And now will I discover her lewdness in the sight of her lovers, and none shall deliver her out of mine hand.*2.10 lewdness: Heb. folly, or, villany 11 I will also cause all her mirth to cease, her feast days, her new moons, and her sabbaths, and all her solemn feasts. 12 And I will destroy her vines and her fig trees, whereof she hath said, These are my rewards that my lovers have given me: and I will make them a forest, and the beasts of the field shall eat them.*2.12 destroy: Heb. make desolate 13 And I will visit upon her the days of Baalim, wherein she burned incense to them, and she decked herself with her earrings and her jewels, and she went after her lovers, and forgat me, saith the LORD.

14 Therefore, behold, I will allure her, and bring her into the wilderness, and speak comfortably unto her.*2.14 comfortably: or, friendly: Heb. to her heart 15 And I will give her her vineyards from thence, and the valley of Achor for a door of hope: and she shall sing there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt. 16 And it shall be at that day, saith the LORD, that thou shalt call me Ishi; and shalt call me no more Baali.*2.16 Ishi: that is, My husband*2.16 Baali: that is, My lord 17 For I will take away the names of Baalim out of her mouth, and they shall no more be remembered by their name. 18 And in that day will I make a covenant for them with the beasts of the field, and with the fowls of heaven, and with the creeping things of the ground: and I will break the bow and the sword and the battle out of the earth, and will make them to lie down safely. 19 And I will betroth thee unto me for ever; yea, I will betroth thee unto me in righteousness, and in judgment, and in lovingkindness, and in mercies. 20 I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the LORD. 21 And it shall come to pass in that day, I will hear, saith the LORD, I will hear the heavens, and they shall hear the earth; 22 And the earth shall hear the corn, and the wine, and the oil; and they shall hear Jezreel. 23 And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God.
