1 Eliseu dissera à mulher cujo filho trouxera de novo à vida: Pega na tua família e vai viver para um outro país qualquer, porque o Senhor mandou vir uma fome sobre Israel que durará sete anos.
2 A mulher com efeito levou a família para viverem na terra dos filisteus por sete anos. Quando a fome acabou, voltou para a terra de Israel e pediu uma audiência ao rei, com o fim de conseguir reaver a sua casa e a terra que lhe pertencia. Quando ela compareceu perante o monarca, este estava justamente a falar com Geazi, o ajudante de Eliseu, e dizia o seguinte: Conta-me lá então outros feitos notáveis que Eliseu tenha feito.
5 Geazi estava a contar ao soberano como Eliseu ressuscitou o rapaz que tinha morrido, e a mulher apareceu: Oh, senhor!, exclamou Geazi, é esta precisamente a mulher de que te estava a falar e este o seu rapaz que Eliseu devolveu à vida!
6 É verdade isso?, perguntou o rei à mulher. E ela confirmou-lhe tudo. O monarca deu então ordens a um dos seus conselheiros que garantisse à mulher a posse do que tinha tido antes, mais o direito às rendas das terras que tinham produzido entretanto os seus cereais.
7 Posteriormente Eliseu foi para Damasco, capital da Síria, onde o rei Ben-Hadade se encontrava doente. Alguém lhe comunicou a chegada do profeta. Quando o rei soube isso, disse a Hazael: Leva um presente ao homem de Deus e pede-lhe que pergunte ao Senhor se me hei-de restabelecer.
9 Hazael levou a Eliseu um carregamento de quarenta camelos, com tudo o que de melhor a terra produzia, e disse-lhe: O teu filho, Ben-Hadade, rei da Síria, mandou-me perguntar-te se se restabelecerá.
10 Diz-lhe que sim, respondeu o profeta. Contudo o Senhor mostrou-me que de qualquer modo ele morrerá.
11 Entretanto Eliseu começou a olhar para ele muito fixamente. Hazael, embaraçado, já não sabia o que havia de fazer; até que o profeta começou a chorar.
12 Que é que se passa, senhor?, perguntou-lhe Hazael liseu respondeu: Eu sei as coisas terríveis que farás ao povo de Israel: queimarás as suas fortalezas, matarás os seus jovens, esmigalharás os bebés contra os rochedos, desventrarás as grávidas!
13 Então Hazael respondeu: O quê, eu? Não valho mais que um cão vadio. Alguma vez eu faria tais coisas!O senhor mostrou-me que hás-de ser rei da Síria, insistiu Eliseu.
14 Quando Hazael regressou, o rei perguntou-lhe: Que te disse ele? Hazael disse: Que havias de ficar bom.
15 Mas no dia seguinte, Hazael pegou num cobertor, molhou-o todo, abafou com ele a cara do rei e assim o matou. Na sequência disso ascendeu ao trono em lugar de Ben-Hadade.
16 O rei Jeorão, filho do rei Jeosafá, de Judá, começou a reinar no quinto ano do reinado de Jorão, rei de Israel, filho de Acabe. Jeorão tinha trinta e dois anos quando ascendeu ao trono; reinou em Jerusalém durante oito anos. Mas foi tão mau como Acabe e os outros reis de Israel; casou mesmo com uma filha de Acabe. Contudo, por causa da promessa feita pelo Senhor a David, seu servo, de que vigiaria sobre os seus descendentes e os guiaria, não destruiu Judá.
20 Durante o reinado de Jeorão o povo de Edom revoltou-se contra Judá e elegeu o seu próprio rei. Jeorão tentou, inutilmente, esmagar essa rebelião: atravessou o Jordão e atacou a povoação de Zair, mas foi rapidamente cercado pelo exército de Edom. A coberto da noite ainda tentou atacar as fileiras edomitas, mas a sua tropa desertou e fugiu. Assim Edom manteve a sua independência até este dia. Por essa altura também Libna se revoltou.
23 Outros acontecimentos respeitantes à história do rei Jeorão encontram-se relatados nas Crónicas dos Reis de Judá. Jeorão faleceu e foi sepultado no cemitério real da cidade de David - o bairro antigo de Jerusalém.
25 O seu filho Acazias subiu ao trono durante o décimo segundo ano do reinado de Jorão, rei de Israel, o filho de Acabe. Tinha Acazias vinte e dois anos quando começou a reinar; mas esteve no trono em Jerusalém um ano. A sua mãe era Atalia, neta do rei Omri, de Israel. Foi um mau rei, tal como o foram todos os descendentes de Acabe. Aliás estava relacionado com este último, pelo casamento.
28 Aliou-se com Jorão para combater contra Hazael, rei da Síria, em Ramote-Gileade. Jorão ficou ferido na batalha, e foi para Jezreel a fim de descansar e se restabelecer dos ferimentos. Enquanto ali se encontrava foi visitado por Acazias, rei de Judá.
1 Now, Elisha, had spoken unto the woman whose son he had restored to life, sayingArise, and take thy journey, thou and thy household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn, for Yahweh hath called for a famine, moreover also, it is coming upon the land seven years.
2 So the woman arose, and did according to the word of the man of God,and took her journey, she and her household, and she sojourned in the land of the Philistines, seven years.
3 And it came to pass, at the end of seven years, that the woman returned out of the land of the Philistines,and she went forth to make outcry unto the king, concerning her house and concerning her field.
4 Now, the king, was speaking unto Gehazi, servant of the man of God, saying, Do recount unto me, I pray thee, all the great things that Elisha hath done.
5 And so it was, just as he was recounting to the king how he had restored the dead to life, lo! the woman whose son he had restored to life, began making outcry unto the king, for her house and for her field. Then said Gehazi, My lord, O king! this, is the woman, and, this, her son, whom, Elisha, restored to life.
6 So the king asked the woman, and she recounted it to him,the king, therefore, appointed her a certain officer, sayingRestore all that was hers, and all the increase of the field, from the day she left the land, even until now.
7 And Elisha came into Damascus, when Ben-hadad king of Syria, was sick,and it was told him, saying, The man of God hath come as far as this place.
8 So the king said unto HazaelTake in thy hand a present, and go to meet the man of God,so shalt thou enquire of Yahweh, from him, saying, Shall I recover from this sickness?
9 So Hazael went to meet him, and took a present in his hand, even every good thing of Damascus, forty camels burden,and came, and stood before him, and saidThy son, Ben-hadad king of Syria, hath sent me unto thee, saying, Shall I recover from this sickness?
10 And Elisha said unto him, Go, say to him, Thou shalt, recover; And yet Yahweh hath shown me, that he will, die.
11 And he settled his countenance, and fixed it until he turned pale,and the man of God, wept.
12 Then said Hazael, Why, is my lord, weeping? And he saidBecause I know what thou wilt do to the sons of Israel, by way of harmTheir fortresses, thou wilt set on fire, and, their choice young men, with the sword, thou wilt slay, and, their children, thou wilt dash in pieces, and, their women with child, thou wilt rip up.
13 And Hazael said, But what is thy servantthe dogthat he should do this great thing? And Elisha said, Yahweh hath shown thee unto me, as king over Syria.
14 So he departed from Elisha, and came in unto his lord, who said to him, What said, Elisha, unto thee? And he said. He told me thou wouldst, recover.
15 But it came to pass on the morrow, that he took the coverlet, and dipped it in water, and spread it over his face, that he died,and, Hazael, reigned, in his stead.
16 Now, in the fifth year of Joram son of Ahab, king of Israel, Jehoshaphat, having been king of Judah, Jehoram, son of Jehoshaphat king of Judah, began to reign.
17 Thirty-two years old, was he when he began to reign, and, eight years, reigned, he in Jerusalem.
18 And he walked in the way of the kings of Israel, just as did the house of Ahab, for, a daughter of Ahab, became his wife,and he did the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh.
19 Yet was not Yahweh willing to destroy Judah, for the sake of David his servant,even as he promised him to give him a lamp for his sons all the days.
20 In his days, did Edom revolt from under the hand of Judah,and they set over them a king.
21 So Joram passed over to Zair, and all the chariots with him,and it came to pass that, he, arising by night, smote the Edomites that were round about unto him, and the captains of the chariots, and the people fled to their homes,
22 Yet did Edom revolt from under the hand of Judah, unto this day,then, revolted Libnah, at the same time.
23 Now, the rest of the story of Joram, and all that he did, are, they, not written in the book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Judah?
24 And Joram slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers, in the city of David,and, Ahaziah his son, reigned, in his stead.
25 In the twelfth year of Joram son of Ahab king of Israel, did Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah, begin to reign.
26 Two and twenty years old, was Ahaziah when he began to reign,and, one year, reigned he in Jerusalem,and, his mothers name, was Athaliah, daughter of Omri, king of Israel;
27 And he walked in the way of the house of Ahab, and did the thing that was wicked in the eyes of Yahweh, like the house of Ahab,for, son-in-law of the house of Ahab, was, he.
28 And he went with Joram son of Ahab, to make war against Hazael king of Syria, in Ramoth-gilead,and the Syrians wounded Joram.
29 So Joram the king returned to get healed in Jezreel, from the wounds wherewith the Syrians had wounded him in Ramah, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria,and, Ahaziah son of Jehoram king of Judah, went down to see Joram son of Ahab in Jezreel, because he, was sick.
