1 Entretanto Eliseu tinha mandado chamar um dos jovens profetas para lhe dizer: Prepara-te para ires a Ramote-Gileade. Pega nesta almotolia e vai ter com Jeú (o filho de Jeosafá e neto de Ninsi). Depois, chama-o à parte, longe dos que o rodeiam,
3 e derrama o óleo sobre ele. Diz-lhe que o Senhor o unge para que seja rei de Israel. Em seguida foge depressa, porque corres perigo de vida!
4 O jovem assim fez, como lhe foi mandado. Quando chegou a Ramote-Gileade, foi ter com Jeú que estava sentado com os oficiais do exército à sua volta, e disse-lhe: Tenho uma mensagem para ti, senhor.Mas para qual de nós?, perguntou Jeú.Para ti, capitão.
6 Jeú levantou-se, deixou os outros, entrou nos seus aposentos, e o moço profeta derramou sobre ele o óleo, dizendo-lhe: Assim diz o Senhor Deus de Israel: 'Unjo-te rei de Israel, o povo do Senhor.
7 Deverás destruir a família de Acabe. Vingarás a morte dos meus profetas e de todo o resto do meu povo que foi assassinado por Jezabel. Toda a família de Acabe deverá ser varrida da terra - todos os homens, sejam eles quem forem. Destruirei a família de Acabe tal como destrui a família de Jeroboão (filho de Nebate) e de Basha (filho de Aías). Cães comerão Jezabel, a mulher de Acabe, em Jezreel, e não haverá ninguém que a enterre.' Depois de dizer isto, abriu a porta e fugiu a correr.
11 Jeú voltou para junto dos seus amigos, os quais lhe perguntaram: Há alguma novidade? O que é que esse maluco te veio dizer? Vocês sabem muito bem quem ele era e o que queria, respondeu Jeú.
12 Não, não sabemos. Diz lá o que era.Ele contou-lhes o que o profeta dissera, e que o tinha ungido rei de Israel. Os outros, sem perder tempo, puseram as suas capas sobre os degraus da casa, mandaram tocar a trombeta e gritaram: Jeú é rei!
14 Foi assim que Jeú (filho de Jeosafá, filho de Ninsi), se revoltou contra o rei Jorão. Este tinha estado em Ramote-Gileade, defendendo Israel contra as forças do rei Hazael, da Síria. Mas fora para Jezreel com o fim de se restabelecer dos ferimentos recebidos. Visto que me querem como rei, disse Jeú para os homens que estavam com ele, não deixem que ninguém escape da cidade e vá dizer para Jezreel o que fizemos.
16 Jeú saltou para um carro de combate e dirigiu-se ele próprio a Jezreel para se encontrar com Jorão, que se encontrava de cama ainda ferido. (Também o rei Acazias de Judá ali estava, pois tinha ido visitá-lo.) A sentinela sobre a torre da povoação viu Jeú e os seus acompanhantes aproximaram-se e gritou: Está a chegar um grupo de gente.Manda um cavaleiro que vá ver se são amigos ou inimigos, disse Jorão. E saiu ter com eles um homem a cavalo: O rei manda perguntar se vêm como amigos ou como inimigos, perguntou o cavaleiro a Jeú. Vêm com intuitos de paz? Jeú replicou: Que é que tu entendes acerca de paz ou de guerra? Passa já para trás de mim!O vigia mandou novo recado ao rei dizendo-lhe que o mensageiro enviado ao encontro dos outros não tinha regressado. O rei mandou outro cavaleiro, que lhes perguntou da mesma forma se vinham como amigos ou como inimigos.Que história é essa de amigos ou de inimigos? Passa já aí para trás de mim!, respondeu Jeú.
20 Também este lá ficou!, exclamou a sentinela. Deve tratar-se de Jeú, pela forma como se aproxima, furiosamente.
21 Depressa! Preparem-me o meu carro!, mandou o rei. E logo saiu, em companhia de Acazias, ao encontro de Jeú. Encontraram-se com ele no campo de Nabote, e Jorão perguntou-lhe: Vens como amigo, Jeú? Jeú respondeu: Como pode haver amizade enquanto a depravação de Jezabel continua aqui, à vista de toda a gente?
23 Jorão fez meia-volta com o seu carro, gritando enquanto fugia: Traição, Acazias! Atraiçoaram-nos!
24 Jeú retesou com toda a força o seu arco e atirou-lhe uma flecha que o apanhou entre as espáduas. Com o coração perfurado, logo caiu do carro para o chão, morto.
25 Jeú disse para Bidcar, seu assistente: Lança-o aí para o campo de Nabote, porque, uma vez que nós vínhamos atrás do seu pai Acabe, o Senhor me revelou esta profecia: 'Dar-lhe-ei aqui mesmo, neste campo de Nabote, a paga do assassínio de Nabote e dos seus filhos.' Por isso deita-o para a ex-propriedade de Nabote, tal como o Senhor disse.
27 Entretanto Acazias, o rei de Judá, fugira pelo caminho que vai para Bete-Hagã . Mas Jeú foi atrás dele gritando: Matem-no! Matem também esse! E com efeito mataram-no no seu carro, no lugar em que o caminho sobe para Gur, perto de Ibleão. Conseguiu mesmo ir até Megido, mas acabou por morrer ali. Os seus oficiais levaram-no num carro para Jerusalém onde o enterraram no cemitério real.
29 (O reinado de Acazias sobre Judá tinha começado no décimo segundo ano do reinado de Jorão, de Israel. )
30 Quando Jezabel ouviu que Jeú tinha vindo a Jezreel, arranjou-se toda, pintou os olhos, penteou-se e foi sentar-se a uma janela. Na altura em que Jeú regressava e entrava pelo portão do palácio, ela gritou-lhe: Então já estás satisfeito, tu o filho de Zimri, que mataste o teu senhor?
32 Ele olhou para cima, viu-a à janela e respondeu-lhe: O que eu quero agora saber é quem está do meu lado. Nessa altura, dois ou três eunucos que se encontravam ali perto de Jezabel, olharam para ele:
33 Atirem-na daí abaixo!, gritou-lhes Jeú. Eles empurraram-na da janela abaixo, e ao esmagar-se no solo, o sangue espirrou nas paredes e sobre os cavalos; estes, excitados, esmagaram-na sob as patas.
34 Jeú entrou no palácio para comer. Mais tarde disse: Que alguém vá enterrar essa mulher maldita, porque sempre era filha de um rei. Contudo, quando foram buscar o cadáver apenas acharam a caveira, os pés e as mãos.
36 Regressando a dar-lhe conta disso, Jeú reconheceu: Foi justamente o que o Senhor afirmou que havia de acontecer. E disse isso a Elias, que os cães comeriam a sua carne e que o seu corpo seria lançado como esterco no campo, sem que ninguém pudesse até reconhecer que era ela própria!
1 Now, Elisha the prophet, called one of the sons of the prophets,and said to himGird up thy loins, and take this flask of oil in thy hand, and go to Ramoth-gilead;
2 and, when thou art come in thither, then look thee out, there, Jehu son of Jehoshaphat, son of Nimshi; and thou shalt enter and get him to rise up out of the midst of his brethren, and take him into an inner chamber;
3 then shalt thou take the flask of oil, and pour out upon his head, and sayThus, saith Yahweh, I have anointed thee to be king unto Israel! Then shalt thou open the door and flee, and not tarry.
4 So the young man went his waythe young man the prophetunto Ramoth-gilead.
5 And, when he came up, lo! the captains of the force, sitting, and he saidA word, have I, for thee, O captain! And Jehu saidFor which, of us all? And he said,For thee, O captain!
6 Then rose he up and went inside, and poured out the oil upon his head, and said unto himThus, saith Yahweh, God of Israel, I have anointed thee to be king unto the people of Yahweh, unto Israel;
7 and thou shalt smite the house of Ahab thy lord,so will I avenge the blood of my servants the prophets, and the blood of all the servants of Yahweh, at the hand of Jezebel;
8 so shall perish all the house of Ahab,and I will cut off to Ahab the meanest, both him that is shut up and him that is left at large, in Israel.
9 Yea I will deliver up the house of Ahab, like the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat,and like the house of Baasha son of Ahijah:
10 And, as for Jezebel, the dogs shall eat
11 Then, Jehu, came forth unto the servants of his lord, and one said to himIs all well? why came this madman unto thee? And he said unto them, Ye, know, the man and his message.
12 And they saidFalse! pray tell, us. And he said,Thus and thus, spake he unto me, saying, Thus, saith Yahweh, I have anointed thee to be king unto Israel.
13 Then hasted they, and took, every man his garment, and put it under him, upon the very steps,and blew with a horn, and said, Jehu, is king!
14 Thus did Jehu son of Jehoshaphat son of Nimshi conspire against Joram,when, Joram, was watching Ramoth-gilead, he and all Israel, because of Hazael king of Syria.
15 But Jehoram the king had returned to get himself healed in Jezreel, of the wounds wherewith the Syrians had wounded him, when he fought with Hazael king of Syria. Then said JehuIf such is your mind, let no fugitive get forth out of the city, to go and tell it in Jezreel.
16 So Jehu rode in a chariot, and went towards Jezreel, for, Joram, was lying there,and, Ahaziah king of Judah, had come down to see Joram.
17 Now, the watchman, was standing upon the tower, in Jezreel, so he saw the great company of Jehu, when he came, and saidA great company, can I see! Then said JehoramTake a horseman and send to meet them, that he may sayIs it peace?
18 So the horseman went to meet him, and saidThus, saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu saidWhat hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me. And the watchman told, saying, The messenger came up to them, but hath not turned back.
19 Then sent he a second horseman, and he came up to them and said, Thus, saith the king, Is it peace? And Jehu saidWhat hast thou to do with peace? turn thee behind me.
20 And the watchman told, saying, He came up to them, but hath not turned back,and, the driving, is like the driving of Jehu son of Nimshi; for, with mad haste, doth he drive.
21 Then said Jehoram, Harness! So one harnessed his chariot,and Jehoram king of Israel and Ahaziah king of Judah went forth, each man in his chariot, yea they went forth to meet Jehu, and came upon him in the heritage of Naboth the Jezreelite.
22 And it came to pass, when Jehoram saw Jehu, that he saidIs it peace, Jehu? And he saidWhat can be the peace, while thy mother Jezebels harlotries and her incantations do so abound?
23 Then Jehoram turned his hands, and fled,and said unto AhaziahTreachery! O Ahaziah!
24 And, Jehu, bent his bow, and smote Jehoram, between his arms,and the arrow came out at his heart,and he sank down in his chariot.
25 Then said he unto Bidkar his officer, Take cast him forth, into the field-portion of Naboth the Jezreelite,for remember, when I and thou were riding as a couple together after Ahab his father, that, Yahweh, laid upon him this doom:
26 Surely, the blood of Naboth and the blood of his sons, have I lately seen, declareth Yahweh, therefore will I requite thee in this portion, declareth Yahweh. Now, therefore, take cast him forth into the portion, according to the word of Yahweh.
27 And, Ahaziah king of Judah, saw it, and fled by the way of the garden house,and Jehu pursued him, and saidHim also! smite him in the chariot! It was in the ascent of Gur, which is by Ibleam. And he fled to Mepidgo, and died there.
28 And his servants conveyed him in a chariot and brought him into Jerusalem,and buried him in his sepulchre, with his fathers, in the city of David.
29 Now it was, in the eleventh year of Joram son of Ahab, that Ahaziah began to reign over Judah.
30 Now, when Jehu entered Jezreel and, Jezebel, heard of it, she set her eyes in stibium, and ornamented her head, and looked forth through the lattice.
31 So, when, Jehu, had entered in at the gate, she said, Was it peace, when Zimri slew his lord?
32 And he lifted up his face unto the lattice, and saidWho, is with me? Who? And there looked out unto him, two or three eunuchs.
33 And he saidHurl her down. And they hurled her down,and there was sprinkled of her bloodupon the wall, and upon the horses, and they trode upon her.
34 And, when he had entered and eaten and drunk, he saidLook, I pray you, after this accursed woman, and bury her, for the daughter of a king, she is.
35 So they went to bury her,but found not of hersave the skull, and the feet, and the palms of the hands.
36 Then came they back, and told him, and he saidThe word of Yahweh, it is, which he spake by the hand of his servant, Elijah the Tishbite, sayingIn the town-land of Jezreel, shall dogs eat the flesh of Jezebel!
37 So shall the carcass of Jezebel become like heaps of dung on the face of the field, in the town-land of Jezreel: So that they cannot say, This, is Jezebel!
