1 Recebi nova mensagem da parte do Senhor que dizia:52 Homem mortal, volta-te para o monte de Seir e profetiza desta maneira contra o povo:3 Diz o Senhor Deus: Sou contra vocês e esmagar-vos-ei com o meu punho, destruir-vos-ei totalmente. Porque vocês odeiam o meu povo de Israel; por isso destruirei as vossas povoações e farei delas lugares totalmente assolados, de tal forma que se darão bem conta de que eu sou o Senhor. Vocês exterminaram o meu povo, foram o seu inimigo perpétuo, numa altura em que a calamidade lhes caiu em cima, visto que eu os tinha castigado por causa dos seus pecados. Tão certo como eu viver, diz o Senhor Deus, que vos farei submergir num mar de sangue. É porque chegou a vossa vez! Liquidarei totalmente o povo do monte de Seir; serão abatidos tanto os que fogem dali como os que procurem correr para lá. Os vossos vales ficarão cheios de mortos, não só os vales, mas os montes, os ribeiros, tudo será repleto com os que morrem pela guerra, de tal forma que vocês nunca mais tornarão a viver. Serão abandonados para sempre. As vossas cidades não mais serão reconstruídas. Nessa altura saberão que eu sou o Senhor.10 Dizem vocês: Tanto Israel como Judá são já meus. Tomarei posse deles. Que nos interessa a nós que Deus lá esteja?11 Então, tão certo como eu viver, diz o Senhor Deus, que lhes darei a recompensa dos seus actos malvados contra o meu povo. Castigar-te-ei por tudo o que de ignominioso e odioso fizeram. Farei com que o meu nome seja honrado em Israel, por causa daquilo que vos faço a vocês. E dar-se-ão conta de que eu ouvi cada palavra que falaram contra o Senhor, dizendo: O seu povo está desguarnecido; eles são alimento para nós comermos. Dizendo coisas dessas, ao mesmo tempo estavam a vangloriar-se contra o Senhor. E eu ouvi isso tudo!14 Todo o mundo ficará contente quando virem o que vos fiz. Regozijaram-se com o triste destino de Israel. Agora serei eu que ficarei satisfeito com o vosso! Serão açoitados, ó povo do monte Seir e todos os que vivem em Edom. Depois verão que eu sou o Senhor!

1 Moreover the word of the LORD came to me, saying,2 Son of man, set thy face against mount Seir, and prophesy against it,3 And say to it, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O mount Seir, I am against thee, and I will stretch out my hand against thee, and I will make thee most desolate.4 I will lay thy cities waste, and thou shalt be desolate, and thou shalt know that I am the LORD.5 Because thou hast had a perpetual hatred, and hast shed the blood of the children of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that their iniquity had an end:6 Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will prepare thee to blood, and blood shall pursue thee: since thou hast not hated blood, even blood shall pursue thee.7 Thus will I make mount Seir most desolate, and cut off from it him that passeth out and him that returneth.8 And I will fill his mountains with his slain men: in thy hills, and in thy valleys, and in all thy rivers, shall they fall that are slain with the sword.9 I will make thee perpetual desolations, and thy cities shall not return: and ye shall know that I am the LORD.10 Because thou hast said, These two nations and these two countries shall be mine, and we will possess it; whereas the LORD was there:11 Therefore, as I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will even do according to thy anger, and according to thy envy which thou hast used out of thy hatred against them; and I will make myself known among them, when I have judged thee.12 And thou shalt know that I am the LORD, and that I have heard all thy blasphemies which thou hast spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, They are laid desolate, they are given us to consume.13 Thus with your mouth ye have boasted against me, and have multiplied your words against me: I have heard them.14 Thus saith the Lord GOD; When the whole earth rejoiceth, I will make thee desolate.15 As thou didst rejoice at the inheritance of the house of Israel, because it was desolate, so will I do to thee: thou shalt be desolate, O mount Seir, and all Edom, even all of it: and they shall know that I am the LORD.
