1 Reúnam-se! O inimigo está pondo cerco a Jerusalém! Ferirão o rosto do juiz de Israel com uma vara.2 E tu, Belém Efrata, embora sejas apenas uma pequena aldeia de Judá, ainda assim serás o local de nascimento do governador do meu povo Israel, que vive desde a eternidade!e3 Deus abandonará o seu povo aos inimigos até ao tempo em que a mulher que está de parto tiver dado à luz. Então por fim os que ainda ficaram no exílio virão juntar-se aos seus irmãos em Israel, a sua própria terra.4 O Senhor alimentará com toda a regularidade o seu povo na força divina, na majestade no nome do Senhor Deus. O seu povo não será perturbado; será antes grandemente honrado em todo o mundo5 Quando os assírios tentarem invadir-nos a terra e ocupar as nossas montanhas, ele designará sete pastores para vigiarem pela nossa segurança, com mais oito governadores.6 Estes acabarão por dominar a Assíria, com espadas desembainhadas, e entrarão pelas portas da terra de Nimrode. Assim seremos libertos dos assírios invasores.7 O resto de Israel será para o mundo como um orvalho refrescante, como uma chuva bem-vinda em tempo de seca; dependerão de Deus, não do homem, e farão bem a muitas nações.8 Israel estará entre as nações, no meio de muitos povos, como um leão na selva, como um leão vigoroso entre rebanhos - quando passar por eles despedaçá-los-á.9 Vencerá os seus inimigos, aniquilando-os todos.10 Nesse mesmo tempo, diz o Senhor, destruirei todo o armamento que houver no meio de ti,ã11 derrubarei as muralhas e as defesas das vossas cidades.12 Porei um fim a tudo o que for feitiçaria - não haverá mais horoscópios, nem bruxas -ð13 ao mesmo tempo destruirei todos os teus ídolos. Nunca mais haverão de prestar culto àquilo que fabricaram com as suas mãos;,14 liquidarei os altares pagãos que se vêem por aí, destruirei as povoações onde se erguem templos de idolatria.15 Recompensarei severamente todos os povos que recusarem obedecer-me.

1 \5:2\But thou, Beth-lehem Ephratah, though thou art little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth to me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting.2 \5:3\Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she who travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return to the children of Israel.3 \5:4\And he will stand and feed in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall abide: for now will he be great to the ends of the earth.4 \5:5\And this man will be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men.5 \5:6\And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in its entrances: thus will he deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders.6 \5:7\And the remnant of Jacob shall be in the midst of many people as a dew from the LORD, as the showers upon the grass, that tarrieth not for man, nor waiteth for the sons of men.7 \5:8\And the remnant of Jacob shall be among the gentiles in the midst of many people as a lion among the beasts of the forest, as a young lion among the flocks of sheep: who, if he goeth through, both treadeth down, and teareth in pieces, and none can deliver.8 \5:9\Thy hand shall be lifted up upon thy adversaries, and all thy enemies shall be cut off.9 \5:10\And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD, that I will cut off thy horses out of the midst of thee, and I will destroy thy chariots:10 \5:11\And I will cut off the cities of thy land, and throw down all thy strong holds:11 \5:12\And I will cut off witchcrafts out of thy hand; and thou shalt have no more sooth-sayers:12 \5:13\Thy graven images also will I cut off, and thy standing images out of the midst of thee; and thou shalt no more worship the work of thy hands.13 \5:14\And I will pluck up thy groves out of the midst of thee: so will I destroy thy cities.14 \5:15\And I will execute vengeance in anger and fury upon the heathen, such as they have not heard.
