1 And he said to Moses, "Come up to the LORD, you and Aaron, Nadab, and Abi'hu, and seventy of the elders of Israel, and worship afar off.2 Moses alone shall come near to the LORD; but the others shall not come near, and the people shall not come up with him."3 Moses came and told the people all the words of the LORD and all the ordinances; and all the people answered with one voice, and said, "All the words which the LORD has spoken we will do."4 And Moses wrote all the words of the LORD. And he rose early in the morning, and built an altar at the foot of the mountain, and twelve pillars, according to the twelve tribes of Israel.5 And he sent young men of the people of Israel, who offered burnt offerings and sacrificed peace offerings of oxen to the LORD.6 And Moses took half of the blood and put it in basins, and half of the blood he threw against the altar.7 Then he took the book of the covenant, and read it in the hearing of the people; and they said, "All that the LORD has spoken we will do, and we will be obedient."8 And Moses took the blood and threw it upon the people, and said, "Behold the blood of the covenant which the LORD has made with you in accordance with all these words."9 Then Moses and Aaron, Nadab, and Abi'hu, and seventy of the elders of Israel went up,10 and they saw the God of Israel; and there was under his feet as it were a pavement of sapphire stone, like the very heaven for clearness.11 And he did not lay his hand on the chief men of the people of Israel; they beheld God, and ate and drank.12 The LORD said to Moses, "Come up to me on the mountain, and wait there; and I will give you the tables of stone, with the law and the commandment, which I have written for their instruction."13 So Moses rose with his servant Joshua, and Moses went up into the mountain of God.14 And he said to the elders, "Tarry here for us, until we come to you again; and, behold, Aaron and Hur are with you; whoever has a cause, let him go to them."15 Then Moses went up on the mountain, and the cloud covered the mountain.16 The glory of the LORD settled on Mount Sinai, and the cloud covered it six days; and on the seventh day he called to Moses out of the midst of the cloud.17 Now the appearance of the glory of the LORD was like a devouring fire on the top of the mountain in the sight of the people of Israel.18 And Moses entered the cloud, and went up on the mountain. And Moses was on the mountain forty days and forty nights.

1 O Senhor Deus disse a Moisés:

— Você, Arão, Nadabe, Abiú e setenta líderes do povo de Israel, subam o monte e venham até a minha presença. E, quando ainda estiverem um pouco longe, ajoelhem-se para me adorar. 2 Só você, Moisés, chegará perto de mim; os outros, não. E o povo não deverá subir o monte.

3 Moisés foi e contou ao povo tudo o que o Senhor tinha dito e todos os mandamentos que ele tinha dado. Então os israelitas responderam todos juntos:

— Nós faremos tudo o que o Senhor ordenou.

4 Então Moisés escreveu todas as leis de Deus, o Senhor. No dia seguinte, de manhã, ele construiu um altar ao pé do monte e colocou ali doze colunas de pedra, uma para cada tribo das doze tribos do povo de Israel. 5 Aí Moisés mandou que alguns moços queimassem animais em sacrifício ao Senhor e matassem touros como ofertas de paz. 6 Moisés pôs a metade do sangue dos animais em bacias e derramou a outra metade no altar. 7 Depois pegou o livro da aliança, onde estavam escritos os mandamentos do Senhor, e o leu em voz alta para o povo. Eles disseram:

— Nós obedeceremos a Deus, o Senhor, e faremos tudo o que ele mandar.

8 Então Moisés pegou o sangue das bacias, borrifou o povo com ele e disse:

— Este é o sangue que sela a aliança que o Senhor fez com vocês quando deu todos esses mandamentos.

9 Moisés, Arão, Nadabe, Abiú e setenta líderes do povo de Israel subiram o monte 10 e viram o Deus de Israel. Debaixo dos pés dele havia alguma coisa parecida com um piso feito de safiras, azul como o céu. 11 Deus não matou esses líderes de Israel; eles viram a Deus e depois comeram e beberam juntos.

12 O Senhor Deus disse a Moisés:

— Suba o monte onde eu estou e fique aqui, pois eu vou lhe dar as placas de pedra que têm as leis e os mandamentos que escrevi, a fim de que você os ensine ao povo.

13 Moisés e Josué, o seu auxiliar, se aprontaram, e Moisés começou a subir o monte sagrado. 14 Então Moisés disse aos líderes:

— Esperem aqui até nós voltarmos. Arão e Hur ficarão com vocês. Quem tiver alguma questão para resolver deverá falar com eles.

15 Então Moisés subiu o monte Sinai, e uma nuvem cobriu o monte. 16,17 A glória do Senhor desceu sobre o monte, e para os israelitas a luz parecia um fogo que queimava lá no alto. A nuvem cobriu o monte durante seis dias, e no sétimo dia o Senhor, lá da nuvem, chamou Moisés. 18 Moisés entrou no meio da nuvem. E ficou ali no monte quarenta dias e quarenta noites.
