1 Als aber das Volk sah, daß Mose vom Berg zu kommen verzog, sammelte es sich um Aaron und sprach zu ihm: Auf, mache uns Götter, die uns vorangehen! Denn wir wissen nicht, was diesem Manne Mose widerfahren ist, der uns aus Ägypten geführt hat. 2 Aaron sprach zu ihnen: Reißet die goldenen Ohrringe ab, die an den Ohren eurer Weiber, eurer Söhne und eurer Töchter sind, und bringet sie zu mir! 3 Da riß alles Volk seine goldenen Ohrringe ab, welche an ihren Ohren waren, und brachten sie zu Aaron. 4 Und er nahm sie von ihren Händen und bildete es mit dem Meißel und machte ein gegossenes Kalb. Da sprachen sie: Das sind deine Götter, Israel, die dich aus Ägypten geführt haben! 5 Als Aaron solches sah, baute er einen Altar vor demselben und ließ ausrufen und sprach: Morgen ist ein Fest für den HERRN! 6 Da standen sie am Morgen früh auf und opferten Brandopfer und brachten dazu Dankopfer; darnach setzte sich das Volk nieder, um zu essen und zu trinken, und sie standen auf, um zu spielen. 7 Da sprach der HERR zu Mose: Geh, steig hinab; denn dein Volk, das du aus Ägypten geführt hast, hat Verderben angerichtet! 8 Sie sind eilends von dem Wege abgewichen, den ich ihnen geboten habe; sie haben sich ein gegossenes Kalb gemacht und haben es angebetet und ihm geopfert und gesagt: Das sind deine Götter, Israel, die dich aus Ägypten geführt haben! 9 Und der HERR sprach zu Mose: Ich habe dieses Volk beobachtet, und siehe, es ist ein halsstarriges Volk. 10 So laß mich nun, daß mein Zorn über sie ergrimme und ich sie verzehre, so will ich dich zu einem großen Volk machen! 11 Mose aber besänftigte das Angesicht des HERRN, seines Gottes, und sprach: Ach HERR, warum will dein Zorn über dein Volk ergrimmen, das du mit so großer Kraft und starker Hand aus Ägypten geführt hast? 12 Warum sollen die Ägypter sagen: Zum Unglück hat er sie ausgeführt, daß er sie im Gebirge erwürgte und von der Erde vertilgte? Kehre dich von dem Grimm deines Zorns und laß dich des Übels reuen, das du deinem Volk zugedacht hast! 13 Gedenke deiner Diener, Abraham, Isaak und Israel, denen du bei dir selbst geschworen und zu denen du gesagt hast: Ich will euren Samen mehren wie die Sterne am Himmel, und dieses ganze Land, das ich versprochen habe, will ich eurem Samen geben, und sie sollen es ewiglich besitzen! 14 Da reute den HERRN des Übels, das er seinem Volke anzutun gedroht hatte. 15 Mose aber wandte sich und stieg vom Berg hinab und hatte die zwei Tafeln des Zeugnisses in seiner Hand; die waren auf beiden Seiten beschrieben. 16 Und die Tafeln waren Gottes Werk, und die Schrift war Gottes Schrift, darein gegraben. 17 Als nun Josua das Geschrei des Volkes hörte, das jauchzte, sprach er zu Mose: Es ist ein Kriegsgeschrei im Lager! 18 Er aber antwortete: Man singt da weder von Sieg noch Niederlage, sondern ich höre einen Wechselgesang! 19 Als er aber nahe zum Lager kam und das Kalb und den Reigen sah, entbrannte Moses Zorn, so daß er die Tafeln wegwarf und sie unten am Berg zerschmetterte. 20 Und er nahm das Kalb, das sie gemacht hatten, und verbrannte es mit Feuer und zermalmte es zu Pulver und stäubte es auf das Wasser und gab es den Kindern Israel zu trinken. 21 Zu Aaron aber sprach Mose: Was hat dir dieses Volk angetan, daß du eine so große Sünde über sie gebracht hast? 22 Mein Herr lasse seinen Zorn nicht ergrimmen; du weißt, daß dieses Volk bösartig ist. 23 Sie sprachen zu mir: Mache uns Götter, die uns vorangehen, denn wir wissen nicht, was aus diesem Mann Mose geworden ist, der uns aus Ägypten geführt hat. 24 Da sprach ich zu ihnen: Wer Gold hat, der reiße es ab! Da gaben sie mir’s, und ich warf es ins Feuer; daraus ist das Kalb geworden! 25 Als nun Mose sah, daß das Volk zügellos geworden war (denn Aaron hatte ihm die Zügel schießen lassen, seinen Widersachern zum Spott), 26 stellte er sich unter das Tor des Lagers und sprach: Her zu mir, wer dem HERRN angehört! Da sammelten sich zu ihm alle Kinder Levis. 27 Und er sprach zu ihnen: So spricht der HERR, der Gott Israels: Gürte jeder sein Schwert an seine Lenden und gehet hin und her, von einem Tor zum andern im Lager, und erwürge ein jeder seinen Bruder, seinen Freund und seinen Nächsten! 28 Die Kinder Levis taten, wie ihnen Mose gesagt hatte, so daß an demselben Tage vom Volke bei dreitausend Männer fielen. 29 Und Mose sprach: Füllet heute eure Hände dem HERRN, ein jeder für seinen Sohn und für seinen Bruder, daß heute der Segen über euch gegeben werde! 30 Am Morgen sprach Mose zum Volk: Ihr habt eine große Sünde getan! Und nun will ich zu dem HERRN hinaufsteigen, vielleicht kann ich Vergebung erlangen für eure Sünde. 31 Als nun Mose wieder zum HERRN kam, sprach er: Ach, das Volk hat eine große Sünde getan, daß sie sich goldene Götter gemacht haben! 32 Und nun vergib ihnen doch ihre Sünde; wo nicht, so tilge mich aus deinem Buch, das du geschrieben hast! 33 Der HERR sprach zu Mose: Ich will den aus meinem Buche tilgen, der an mir sündigt! 34 So gehe nun hin und führe das Volk dahin, wovon ich dir gesagt habe. Siehe, mein Engel soll vor dir hergehen. Aber am Tage meiner Heimsuchung will ich ihre Sünde an ihnen heimsuchen! 35 Also plagte der HERR das Volk wegen dessen, was sie mit dem Kalb getan, welches Aaron gemacht hatte.

3 Nā, whakia ana e te iwi katoa ngā whakakai kōura i ō rātou taringa, ā, kawea ana mai ki a Ārona. 4 Nā, ka tangohia e ia i ō rātou ringa, ā, whakaahuatia ana e ia ki te purupuru tāna kūao kau i whakarewa ai. Nā, ka mea rātou, "Ko ōu atua ēnei, e Īharaira, nāna nei koe i kawe mai ki runga nei i te whenua o Īhipa!"

5 Ā, nō te kitenga o Ārona, hangā ana e ia tētahi āta ki mua i taua mea; ā, ka karanga a Ārona, ka mea, "Ko āpōpō, he hākari ki a Ihowā." 6 Nā, ka maranga wawe rātou i te aonga ake, ā, whakaekea ana he tahunga tinana, i kawea anō he whakahere mō te pai; nā, ka noho te iwi ki te kai, ki te inu, ā, ka whakatika ki te tākaro.

7 Nā, ka mea a Ihowā ki a Mohi, "Haere, heke atu, kua hē hoki tōu iwi i kawea mai nei e koe i te whenua o Īhipa. 8 Kua hohoro rātou te peka kē i te huarahi i kīia e ahau ki a rātou; kua hangā mā rātou he kūao kau, he mea whakarewa, kua koropiko ki taua mea, kua patu whakahere māna, ā, e mea ana, ‘Ko ōu atua ēnei, e Īharaira, i kawea mai ai koe i te whenua o Īhipa.’ "

9 I mea anō a Ihowā ki a Mohi, "Kua kite ahau i tēnei iwi, nā, he iwi kakī mārō rātou. 10 Nā, tukua atu ahau, ā, ka mura tōku riri ki a rātou, ā, ka pau rātou i ahau; ka hangā anō koe hei iwi nui."

11 Nā, ka īnoi a Mohi ki a Ihowā, ki tōna Atua, ka mea, "He aha tōu riri i mura ai, e Ihowā, ki tāu iwi i kawea mai nei e koe i te whenua o Īhipa i runga i te kaha nui, i te ringa mārō? 12 Ha, kia kōrero ngā Īhipiana, kia mea, ‘He whakaputanga atu ki te hē tāna i a rātou, kia whakamatea ai rātou ki ngā maunga, kia whakangaromia atu ai i te mata o te whenua’? Tahuri i tōu riri nui e mura nei, kia puta kē hoki tōu whakaaro ki tēnei kino mō tāu iwi. 13 Kia mahara ki āu pononga, ki a Āperahama, ki a Īhaka, ki a Īharaira, ki tāu oatitanga hoki i a koe ki a rātou, ki tāu meatanga ki a rātou, ‘Ka whakanuia e ahau ō koutou uri kia rite ki ngā whetū o te rangi; ko tēnei whenua katoa hoki i kōrerotia atu nei e ahau, ka hoatu e ahau ki ō koutou uri, ā, ka nohoia e rātou ake ake.’ " 14 Nā, ka puta kē tā Ihowā i whakaaro ai mō te kino i kīia e ia kia meatia ki tāna iwi.

15 Nā, ka tahuri a Mohi, ka heke iho i te maunga, me ngā papa e rua o te whakaaturanga i tōna ringa; he mea tuhi ngā taha e rua o ngā papa; i tētahi taha, i tētahi taha te tuhi. 16 He mea mahi hoki nā te Atua aua papa, me te tuhituhi hoki, nā te Atua te tuhituhi, he mea whaowhao ki ngā papa.

17 Ā, ka rongo a Hohua i te reo o te iwi e hāmama ana, ka mea ki a Mohi, "He ngē whawhai kei te puni rā."

18 Nā, ka mea ia:

"Ehara tērā reo i te hāmama mō te hinganga o te taua,

ehara hoki tērā reo i te hāmama o te hunga e hinga ana;

he reo waiata tāku e rongo nei."

19 Ā, ka tata ia ki te puni, nā, ka kite ia i te kūao kau, i te kanikani. Nā, ka mura te riri o Mohi, ā, ka makā atu e ia ngā papa i roto i ōna ringa, ā, pākarua ana aua mea e ia i raro i te maunga. 20 Nā, ka tango ia i te kūao kau i hangā e rātou, ā, tahuna ana e ia ki te ahi, ā, hurihia ana, ā, ngotangota noa, ā, ruiruia ana e ia ki te wai, whakainumia atu ana mā ngā tama a Īharaira.

21 Nā, ka mea a Mohi ki a Ārona, "I aha tēnei iwi ki a koe, i tākina ai e koe tēnei hara nui ki a rātou?"

22 Ā, ka mea a Ārona, "Kei mura mai te riri o tōku ariki; e mōhio ana koe ki tēnei iwi, mō te kino tonu rātou. 23 I mea hoki rātou ki ahau, ‘Hangā ētahi atua mō tātou hei haere i mua i a tātou; ko tēnei Mohi hoki, ko te tangata nāna nei tātou i kawe mai i te whenua o Īhipa, kāhore tātou e mōhio kua ahatia rānei ia.’ 24 Nā, ka mea ahau ki a rātou, ‘Ki te mea he kōura tō tētahi, whakia mai.’ Nā, ka hōmai e rātou ki ahau; ā, makā ana e ahau ki te ahi; ā, puta ake ko te kūao kau nei."

25 Ā, i te kitenga o Mohi i te iwi e korara noa ana, (nā Ārona hoki rātou i tuku kia korara, hei taunu mā ō rātou hoariri). 26 Nā, ka tū a Mohi ki te kūwaha o te puni, ka mea, "Ko wai tō Ihowā haere mai ki ahau?" Nā, ka huihui ngā tama katoa a Rīwai ki a ia.

27 Nā, ka mea ia ki a rātou, "Ko te kupu tēnei a Ihowā, a te Atua o Īharaira, ‘Whakanohoia e tērā, e tērā tāna hoari ki tōna hūhā, ā, haere atu, hoki mai, i tētahi kūwaha ki tētahi kūwaha, i waenga puni, ā, patua e tērā tōna teina, e tērā tōna hoa, e tērā tōna hoa e noho tata ana.’ " 28 Nā, rite tonu ki te kupu a Mohi tā ngā tama a Rīwai i mea ai; ā, tata tonu ki te toru mano ngā tāngata i hinga i taua rangi. 29 Nā Mohi hoki i mea, "Hei runga i tāna tama, i tōna teina, te whakatohungatanga ki a Ihowā o tērā, o tērā, o koutou āianei; kia hōmai ai e ia he manaaki ki a koutou āianei."

30 Nā, i te aonga ake, ka mea a Mohi ki te iwi, "Kua hara koutou, he nui te hara. Nā, me haere ahau āianei ki runga, ki a Ihowā; tērā pea e taea e ahau te whakamārie mō tō koutou hara."

31 Nā, ka hoki a Mohi ki a Ihowā, ka mea, "Auē! Kua hara tēnei iwi, he nui te hara, kua hangā hoki e rātou ētahi atua kōura mō rātou. 32 Nā, māu e horoi tō rātou hara; ā, ki te kāhore, tēnā rā, horoia atu ahau i roto i tāu pukapuka i tuhituhia e koe."

33 Nā, ka mea a Ihowā ki a Mohi, "Ko te tangata e hara ana ki ahau, ka horoia atu ia e ahau i roto i tāku pukapuka. 34 Nā, haere rā, ārahina atu te iwi ki te wāhi i kōrerotia atu e ahau ki a koe, tēnā tāku anahera te haere atu nā i mua i a koe. Ahakoa rā, ko ā te rā e mea ai ahau, inā, ka meinga e ahau tō rātou hara kia tau ki runga ki a rātou."

35 Nā, ka whiua e Ihowā te iwi mō tā rātou hanganga i te kūao kau, i hangā nei e Ārona.
