1 *Apg 19:22. Paulus kom också till Derbe och Lystra. Där fanns en lärjunge som hette Timoteus. Han var son till en troende judinna, men hans far var grek*16:1grekDvs grekisktalande hedning.. 2 *Apg 6:3. Bröderna i Lystra och Ikonium talade väl om Timoteus. 3 *1 Kor 9:20. Paulus ville ha med honom på resan, och av hänsyn till judarna i de trakterna tog han och omskar honom eftersom alla visste att hans far var grek.

4 *Apg 15:23f. När de reste genom städerna överlämnade de besluten som apostlarna och de äldste i Jerusalem hade fastställt. 5 *Apg 9:31. Och församlingarna stärktes i tron och växte i antal för varje dag.

6 *Apg 18:23, Rom 16:5, 1 Kor 16:19. Sedan tog de vägen genom Frygien och Galatien, eftersom de blev hindrade av den helige Ande från att förkunna ordet i Asien. 7 När de nådde Mysien försökte de ta sig till Bitynien, men det tillät inte Jesu Ande.*16:6fAsien … BitynienDessa områden låg vid nuvarande Turkiets sydvästra respektive norra kust. Sällskapet följde alltså Mysiens medelväg ut till Troas, gamla Troja, på västkusten.8 Då reste de genom Mysien ner till Troas.

9 På natten såg Paulus en syn där en makedonier stod och vädjade till honom: "Kom över till Makedonien och hjälp oss!" 10 När han sett denna syn försökte vi*16:10försökte viLukas talar nu som ögonvittne. Troligen följde han med till Filippi (16:10-16) och anslöt sedan när Paulus passerade igen (20:6-28:16). genast ta oss vidare till Makedonien, eftersom vi förstod att Gud hade kallat oss att förkunna evangeliet för dem.

11 Vi lade ut från Troas och seglade rakt över till Samotrake, och nästa dag till Neapolis. 12 Därifrån tog vi oss till Filippi, som är den största staden i den delen av Makedonien*16:12den största staden i den delen av MakedonienAndra handskrifter: "en stad i första distriktet (delen) av Makedonien." och en romersk koloni*16:12en romersk koloniEtt område som fått särskilda privilegier som boplats för romare. Filippi var en militärkoloni där många romerska soldater och officerare hade slagit sig ner efter avslutad militärtjänst, vilket kan förklara den hårda behandling som Paulus och Silas fick.. I den staden stannade vi några dagar.

13 På sabbaten tog vi oss ut genom stadsporten och gick längs en flod där vi antog att det skulle finnas en böneplats*16:13flod … böneplatsDen rituella tvagningen före bönen krävde tillgång till vatten.. Vi satte oss ner och började tala till de kvinnor som hade samlats där. 14 En av dem som lyssnade hette Lydia. Hon handlade med purpurtyger*16:14purpurtygerPurpurfärgen utvanns ur feniciska snäckor och var en mycket dyrbar handelsvara, värd sin vikt i silver. Den användes för kostbara kungliga och prästerliga kläder. och var från staden Tyatira, och hon hörde till dem som vördade Gud. Herren öppnade hennes hjärta så att hon tog till sig det som Paulus predikade. 15 *Hebr 13:2. När hon och hennes familj hade blivit döpta, bad hon: "Om ni anser att jag tror på Herren, kom då och bo hemma hos mig!" Och hon övertalade oss.

16 En gång, när vi var på väg till böneplatsen, möttes vi av en slavflicka som hade en spådomsande och skaffade sina herrar stora inkomster genom att spå. 17 Hon följde efter Paulus och oss andra och skrek: "De här människorna är den högste gudens tjänare! De förkunnar för er en väg till frälsning!" 18 *Mark 16:17. Så höll hon på i flera dagar. Men Paulus blev upprörd och vände sig om och sade till anden: "Jag befaller dig i Jesu Kristi namn att lämna henne!" Och i samma ögonblick for anden ut.

19 När hennes herrar såg att deras hopp om inkomst var ute, grep de Paulus och Silas och släpade med dem till torget inför myndigheterna. 20 *Apg 17:6. De förde fram dem till domarna och sade: "De här människorna stör ordningen i vår stad. De är judar 21 och förkunnar seder som vi romare inte får anta eller följa." 22 *2 Kor 11:25, 1 Tess 2:2. Även folket gick till angrepp mot dem, och domarna slet av dem kläderna och befallde att de skulle piskas*16:22piskasOrdagrant "slita spö", piskas med hårda spön (jfr 2 Kor 11:25).. 23 De fick många rapp och kastades i fängelse, och fångvaktaren fick befallning att bevaka dem noga. 24 När han nu fick en sådan befallning, satte han dem i den innersta cellen och låste fast deras fötter i stocken.

25 Vid midnatt var Paulus och Silas i bön och lovsång till Gud medan fångarna lyssnade på dem. 26 *Apg 4:31, 5:19, 12:7. Plötsligt kom ett kraftigt jordskalv så att fängelset skakades i sina grundvalar. I samma ögonblick öppnades alla dörrarna, och allas bojor lossnade och föll av.

27 Fångvaktaren vaknade, och när han fick se att fängelsedörrarna stod öppna drog han sitt svärd och skulle just ta sitt liv*16:27skulle just ta sitt livFör att slippa det vanärande straffet med avrättning genom tortyr för att han låtit fångarna fly., eftersom han trodde att fångarna hade flytt. 28 Men Paulus ropade högt: "Gör dig inte illa! Vi är här allesammans." 29 Då bad han om ljus och rusade in och föll skräckslagen ner inför Paulus och Silas. 30 *Luk 3:10f, 10:25. Sedan förde han ut dem och frågade: "Herrar, vad ska jag göra för att bli frälst?" 31 *Joh 3:16f. De svarade: "Tro på Herren Jesus så blir du frälst, du och din familj." 32 Och de förkunnade Herrens ord för honom och för alla i hans familj.

33 Redan vid samma timme på natten tog fångvaktaren med dem och tvättade deras sår, och han döptes genast tillsammans med hela sin familj. 34 *Luk 19:6. Sedan förde han dem upp till sin bostad och dukade ett bord, jublande glad över att han med hela sin familj hade kommit till tro på Gud.

35 När det blev dag skickade domarna sina rättstjänare och lät säga: "Frige de där människorna." 36 Fångvaktaren framförde detta till Paulus och sade: "Domarna har sänt bud att ni ska friges. Så kom nu ut och gå i frid!" 37 *Apg 22:25. Men Paulus sade till dem: "De har piskat oss offentligt utan rättegång, fast vi är romerska medborgare*16:37romerska medborgareSådana var enligt romersk lag skyddade mot tortyr. Den som utsatte romare för tortyr kunde straffas med slaveri eller döden., och kastat oss i fängelse. Och nu vill de skicka iväg oss i hemlighet! Å nej, de får komma hit själva och hämta ut oss."

38 Rättstjänarna framförde dessaord till domarna, som blev förskräckta när de fick höra att de var romerska medborgare. 39 De kom och talade vänligt till dem och förde ut dem och bad dem lämna staden. 40 Men när Paulus och Silas var ute ur fängelset gick de i stället hem till Lydia, där de träffade bröderna och gav dem uppmuntran och tröst. Sedan drog de vidare.

1 Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek: 2 Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium. 3 Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek. 4 And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem. 5 And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily. 6 Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia, 7 After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not. 8 And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas. 9 And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us. 10 And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them. 11 Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next day to Neapolis; 12 And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, and a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days. 13 And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither.

14 And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard us: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul. 15 And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought us, saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide there. And she constrained us.

16 And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying: 17 The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation. 18 And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.

19 And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew them into the marketplace unto the rulers, 20 And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city, 21 And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans. 22 And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat them. 23 And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast them into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely: 24 Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.

25 And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them. 26 And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed. 27 And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled. 28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. 29 Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas, 30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? 31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. 32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house. 33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway. 34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house. 35 And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go. 36 And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace. 37 But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast us into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out. 38 And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans. 39 And they came and besought them, and brought them out, and desired them to depart out of the city. 40 And they went out of the prison, and entered into the house of Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.
