1 Cessaram estes três homens de responder a Jó, porque era justo aos seus próprios olhos.2 Então se acendeu a ira de Eliú, filho de Baraquel buzita, da família de Rão; acendeu-se a sua ira contra Jó, porque se justificava a si mesmo e não a Deus.3 Também contra os seus três amigos se acendeu a sua ira, porque não tinham achado que responder, e contudo tinham condenado a Jó.4 Como eram mais velhos do que ele, Eliú tinha esperado até este momento para falar a Jó.5 Vendo Eliú que não havia resposta na boca destes três homens, acendeu-se-lhe a ira.6 Então respondeu Eliú, filho de Baraquel buzita: Eu sou de pouca idade, e vós sois muito velhos, Pelo que receei e não me atrevi a manifestar a minha opinião.7 Dizia eu: Falem os dias, E a multidão dos anos ensine a sabedoria.8 Há, porém, um espírito no homem, E o assopro do Todo-poderoso dá-lhe entendimento.9 Os de muitos anos não é que são sábios, Nem os velhos, que entendem o juízo.10 Portanto eu dizia: Ouvi-me; Também eu manifestarei a minha opinião.11 Eis que aguardei as vossas palavras, Escutei as vossas razões, Enquanto buscáveis que dizer.12 Eu vos dei toda a minha atenção, E não houve entre vós quem convencesse a Jó, Nem refutasse as suas palavras.13 Não digais: Nele achamos a sabedoria, Deus é que pode vencê-lo, não o homem!14 Ele não se dirigiu diretamente a mim, E eu não lhe responderei com as vossas razões.15 Estão pasmados, não respondem mais! Faltam-lhes palavras.16 Hei de eu esperar, porque eles não falam, Por que estão parados e não respondem mais?17 Eu também darei a minha resposta, Também manifestarei a minha opinião.18 Pois estou cheio de palavras, O espírito dentro de mim me constrange.19 Eis que o meu peito é como o mosto sem respiradouro, Como odres novos que estão para arrebentar.20 Falarei, para que eu ache alívio; Abrirei os meus lábios e responderei.21 Que não seja eu, pois, levado de respeitos humanos, Nem use de lisonja para com homem algum.22 Pois não sei usar de lisonja; Se assim fizesse, em breve me levaria o meu Criador.

1 So these three men ceased to answer Job, because he seemed just to himself.2 And Eliu the son of Barachel the Buzite, of the kindred of Ram, was angry and was moved to indignation : now he was angry against Job, because he said he was just before God.3 And he was angry with his friends because they had not found a reasonable answer, but only had condemned Job.4 So Eliu waited while Job was speaking, because they were his elders that were speaking.5 But when he saw that the three were not able to answer, he was exceedingly angry.6 Then Eliu the son of Barachel the Buzite answered and said : I am younger in days, and you are more ancient; therefore hanging down my head, I was afraid to shew you my opinion.7 For I hoped that greater age would speak, and that a multitude of years would teach wisdom.8 But, as I see, there is a spirit in men, and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth understanding.9 They that are aged are not the wise men, neither do the ancients understand judgment.10 Therefore I will speak : Hearken to me, I also will shew you my wisdom.11 For I have waited for your words, I have given ear to your wisdom, as long as you were disputing in words.12 And as long as I thought you said some thing, I considered : but, as I see, there is none of you that can convince Job, and answer his words.13 Lest you should say : We have found wisdom, God hath cast him down, not man.14 He hath spoken nothing to me, and I will not answer him according to your words.15 They were afraid, and answered no more, and they left off speaking.16 Therefore because I have waited, and they have not spoken : they stood, and answered no more :17 I also will answer my part, and will shew my knowledge.18 Behold, my belly is as new wine which wanteth vent, which bursteth the new vessels.19 dummy verses inserted by amos20 I will speak and take breath a little : I will open my lips, and will answer.21 I will not accept the person of man, and I will not level God with man.22 For I know not how long I shall continue, and whether after a while my Maker may take me away.
