1 Prosseguiu ainda Eliú:2 Espera-me um pouco, e te mostrarei, Porque ainda tenho alguma cousa a dizer a favor de Deus.3 De longe trarei o meu conhecimento, E ao meu Criador atribuirei a justiça.4 Pois, na verdade, as minhas palavras não são falsas: Está contigo um que tem perfeito conhecimento.5 Eis que Deus é grande, e não despreza a ninguém: É grande no poder do entendimento.6 Ele não preserva a vida do iníquo, Mas faz justiça aos aflitos.7 Dos justos não aparta os seus olhos; Mas juntamente com os reis sobre o trono Fá-los sentar para sempre, e são exaltados.8 Se estiverem presos em grilhões, E atados com as cordas da aflição,9 Ele lhes faz ver as suas obras, As suas transgressões e que se têm portado com soberba.10 Abre-lhes também o ouvido para receberem a instrução, E ordena que se tornem da iniqüidade.11 Se o ouvirem e o servirem, Passarão os seus dias em prosperidade, E os seus anos em prazeres.12 Mas se não ouvirem, perecerão à espada, E morrerão na sua cegueira.13 Porém os ímpios de coração se entregam à colera; Não clamam a Deus por socorro, quando os põe em grilhões.14 Perdem a vida na sua mocidade, E morrem como os sodomitas.15 Ele livra o aflito por meio da sua aflição, E na opressão lhe abre o ouvido.16 Na verdade te haveria tirado da angústia Para um lugar espaçoso, onde não há estreiteza; E as iguarias da sua mesa seriam cheias de gordura.17 Mas estás de completo acordo com o juízo do iníquo: O juízo e a justiça tomarão conta de ti.18 Não permitas, pois, que a ira te induza a escarnecer; Nem te desvie a grandeza do resgate.19 Bastarão, porventura, as tuas riquezas, para que não estejas em aperto, Ou todas as forças da tua fortaleza?20 Não suspires pela noite, Em que povos são cortados do seu lugar.21 Guarda, não declines para a iniqüidade, Pois isso escolhes antes que a aflição.22 Eis que Deus em seu poder procede com alteza; Quem ensina como ele?23 Quem lhe prescreveu o seu caminho? Ou quem poderá dizer: Praticaste a injustiça?24 Lembra-te de magnificares as suas obras, De que têm cantado os homens.25 Todos os homens têm olhado para elas; O homem as comtempla de longe.26 Eis que Deus é grande, e não o conhecemos; O número dos seus anos não se pode esquadrinhar.27 Pois suga as gotas de água, Que do seu vapor se tornam em chuva,28 A qual as nuvens derramam E fazem cair abundantemente sobre o homem.29 Também pode alguém, porventura, entender o expandir das nuvens, Os trovões do seu pavilhão?30 Eis que ao redor de si estende a sua luz, E cobre o fundo do mar.31 Pois por estas cousas julga o povo; Ele dá alimento em abundância.32 Cobre as mãos com o relâmpago, E dá-lhe ordem contra o agressor.33 O fragor da tempestade dá notícias a respeito dele, Também o gado o faz a respeito do temporal que vem subindo.

1 Eliu also proceeded, and said :2 Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee : for I have yet somewhat to speak in God's behalf.3 I will repeat my knowledge from the beginning, and I will prove my Maker just.4 For indeed my words are without a lie, and perfect knowledge shall be proved to thee.5 God doth not cast away the mighty, whereas he himself also is mighty.6 But he saveth not the wicked, and he giveth judgment to the poor.7 He will not take away his eyes from the just, and he placeth kings on the throne for ever, and they are exalted.8 And if they shall be in chains, and be bound with the cords of poverty :9 He shall shew them their works, and their wicked deeds, because they have been violent.10 He also shall open their ear, to correct them : and shall speak, that they may return from iniquity.11 If they shall hear and observe, they shall accomplish their days in good, and their years in glory.12 But if they hear not, they shall pass by the sword, and shall be consumed in folly.13 Dissemblers and crafty men prove the wrath of God, neither shall they cry when they are bound.14 Their soul shall die in a storm, and their life among the effeminate.15 He shall deliver the poor out of his distress, and shall open his ear in affliction.16 Therefore he shall set thee at large out of the narrow mouth, and which hath no foundation under it : and the rest of thy table shall be full of fatness.17 Thy cause hath been judged as that of the wicked, cause and judgment thou shalt recover.18 Therefore let not anger overcome thee to oppress any man : neither let multitude of gifts turn thee aside.19 Lay down thy greatness without tribulation, and all the mighty of strength.20 Prolong not the night that people may come up for them.21 Beware thou turn not aside to iniquity : for this thou hast begun to follow after misery.22 Behold, God is high in his strength, and none is like him among the lawgivers.23 Who can search out his ways? or who can say to him : Thou has wrought iniquity?24 Remember that thou knowest not his work, concerning which men have sung.25 All men see him, every one beholdeth afar off.26 Behold, God is great, exceeding our knowledge : the number of his years is inestimable.27 He lifteth up the drops of rain, and poureth out showers like floods :28 Which flow from the clouds that cover all above.29 If he will spread out clouds as his tent,30 And lighten with his light from above, he shall cover also the ends of the sea.31 For by these he judgeth people, and giveth food to many mortals.32 In his hands he hideth the light, and commandeth it to come again.33 He sheweth his friend concerning it, that it is his possession, and that he may come up to it.
