1 Cabe ao homem formular projetos em seu coração, mas do Senhor vem a resposta da língua.2 Todos os caminhos parecem puros ao homem, mas o Senhor é quem pesa os corações.3 Confia teus negócios ao Senhor e teus planos terão bom êxito.4 Tudo fez o Senhor para seu fim, até o ímpio para o dia da desgraça.5 Todo coração altivo é abominação ao Senhor: certamente não ficará impune.6 É pela bondade e pela verdade que se expia a iniqüidade; pelo temor do Senhor evita-se o mal.7 Quando agradam ao Senhor os caminhos de um homem, reconcilia com ele seus próprios inimigos.8 Mais vale o pouco com justiça do que grandes lucros com iniqüidade.9 O coração do homem dispõe o seu caminho, mas é o Senhor que dirige seus passos.10 As palavras do rei são como oráculos: quando ele julga, sua boca não erra.11 Balança e peso justos são do Senhor, e são obra sua todos os pesos da bolsa.12 Fazer o mal, para um rei, é coisa abominável, porque pela justiça firma-se o trono.13 Os lábios justos são agradáveis ao rei; ele ama o que fala com retidão.14 A indignação do rei é prenúncio de morte, só o sábio sabe aplacá-la.15 Na serenidade do semblante do rei está a vida: sua clemência é como uma chuva de primavera.16 Adquirir a sabedoria vale mais que o ouro; antes adquirir a inteligência que a prata.17 O caminho dos corretos consiste em evitar o mal; o que vigia seu procedimento conserva sua vida.18 A soberba precede à ruína; e o orgulho, à queda.19 Mais vale ser modesto com os humildes que repartir o despojo com os soberbos.20 Quem ouve a palavra com atenção encontra a felicidade; ditoso quem confia no Senhor.21 Inteligente é o que possui o coração sábio; a doçura da linguagem aumenta o saber.22 A inteligência é fonte de vida para quem a possui; o castigo dos insensatos é a loucura.23 O coração do sábio torna sua boca instruída, e acrescenta-lhes aos lábios o saber.24 As palavras agradáveis são como um favo de mel; doçura para a alma e saúde para os ossos.25 Há caminhos que parecem retos ao homem e, contudo, o seu termo é a morte.26 A fome do trabalhador trabalha por ele, porque sua boca o constrange a isso.27 O perverso cava o mal, há em seus lábios como que fogo devorador.28 O perverso excita questões, o detrator separa os amigos.29 O violento seduz seu próximo e o arrasta pelo mau caminho.30 Quem fecha os olhos e planeja intriga, ao morder os lábios, já praticou o mal.31 Os cabelos brancos são uma coroa de glória a quem se encontra no caminho da justiça.32 Mais vale a paciência que o heroísmo, mais vale quem domina o coração do que aquele que conquista uma cidade.33 As sortes lançam-se nas dobras do manto, mas do Senhor depende toda a decisão.

1 Unto man belong the resolves of the heart; but from the Lord cometh the expression of the tongue.2 Every one of the ways of a man is pure in his own eyes; but the Lord measureth the spirits.3 Commit unto the Lord thy works, and thy plans will be firmly established.4 Every thing hath the Lord wrought for its destined end; yes, even the wicked for the day of unhappiness.5 An abomination of the Lord is every one that is proud of heart: the hand of God being against his hand, he shall not go unpunished.6 Through kindness and truth is iniquity atoned for; and by the fear of the Lord men depart from evil.7 When the Lord receiveth in favor a man’s ways, he maketh even his enemies to be at peace with him.8 Better is a little with righteousness, than great incomes through injustice.9 A man’s heart deviseth his way; but the Lord directeth firmly his steps.10 There should be a wise sentence on the lips of the king: his mouth should never commit a trespass in judging.11 A just balance and scales belong to the Lord: his work are all the weights in the bag.12 It should be an abomination to kings to commit wickedness; for through righteousness alone can a throne be established.13 Righteous lips should obtain the favor of kings; and him that speaketh uprightly should they love.14 The fury of a king is like the messengers of death; but a wise man will appease it.15 In the light of the king’s countenance there is life; and his favor is as a cloud of the latter rain.16 How much better is it to obtain wisdom than gold! and to obtain understanding is preferable to silver!17 The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he preserveth his soul that watcheth his way.18 Before downfall goeth pride, and before stumbling, haughtiness of spirit.19 Better is it to be of a humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide spoil with the proud.20 He that reflecteth on a matter wisely will find happiness; and whoso trusteth in the Lord––happiness attend him!21 The wise in heart is called a man of understanding; and the sweetness of the lips increaseth information.22 Intelligence is a source of life unto its possessor; but the correction of fools is folly.23 The heart of the wise maketh his mouth intelligent, and upon his lips he increaseth information.24 Like the droppings of honey are pleasant sayings, sweet to the soul, and healing to the bones.25 There is many a way which seemeth even before a man, but its end are the ways unto death.26 The desire of the laborer laboreth for him; for his mouth imposeth it on him.27 An ungodly man diggeth up mischief, and on his lips there is as it were a scathing fire.28 A perverse man scattereth strife; and a whisperer separateth confident friends.29 The man of violence misleadeth his neighbor, and maketh him go on a way which is not good.30 He shutteth his eyes to devise perverse things: when he compresseth his lips then hath he fully resolved on evil.31 An ornamental crown is the hoary head, on the way of righteousness can it be found.32 One that is slow to anger is better than a hero; and he that ruleth his spirit, than the conqueror of a city.33 In the lap the lot is cast: but from the Lord cometh the whole of its decision.
