1 O coração do rei é uma água fluente nas mãos do Senhor: ele o inclina para qualquer parte que quiser.2 Os caminhos do homem parecem retos aos seus olhos, mas cabe ao Senhor pesar os corações.3 A prática da justiça e da eqüidade vale aos olhos do Senhor mais que os sacrifícios.4 Olhares altivos ensoberbecem o coração; o luzeiro dos ímpios é o pecado.5 Os planos do homem ativo produzem abundância; a precipitação só traz penúria.6 Tesouros adquiridos pela mentira: vaidade passageira para os que procuram a morte.7 A violência dos ímpios os conduz à {ruína}, porque se recusam a praticar a justiça.8 O caminhos do perverso é tortuoso, mas o inocente age com retidão.9 Melhor é habitar num canto do terraço do que conviver com uma mulher impertinente.10 A alma do ímpio deseja o mal; nem mesmo seu amigo encontrará graça a seus olhos.11 Quando se pune o zombador, o simples torna-se sábio; quando se adverte o sábio, ele adquire a ciência.12 O justo observa a cada do ímpio e precipita os maus na desventura.13 Quem se faz de surdo aos gritos do pobre não será ouvido, quando ele mesmo clamar.14 Um presente dado sob o manto extingue a cólera; uma oferta concebida às ocultas acalma um furor violento.15 Para o justo é uma alegria a prática da justiça, mas é um terror para aqueles que praticam a iniqüidade.16 O homem que se desvia do caminho da prudência repousará na companhia das trevas.17 O que ama os banquetes será um homem indigente; o que ama o vinho e o óleo não se enriquecerá.18 O ímpio serve de resgate para o justo e o pérfido para os homens retos.19 Melhor é habitar no deserto do que com uma mulher impertinente e intrigante.20 Na casa do sábio há preciosas reservas e óleo; um homem imprudente, porém, os absorverá.21 Quem segue a justiça e a misericórdia, achará vida, justiça e glória.22 O sábio toma de assalto a cidade dos heróis: destrói a fortaleza em que depositava confiança.23 Quem vigia sua boca e sua língua preserva sua vida da angústia.24 Chamamos de zombador um soberbo arrogante, que age com orgulho desmedido.25 Os desejos do preguiçoso o matam porque suas mãos recusam o trabalho;26 passam todo o dia a desejar com ardor, mas quem é justo dá largamente.27 O sacrifício dos ímpios é abominável, mormente quando o oferecem com má intenção.28 A testemunha mentirosa perecerá, mas o homem que escuta sempre poderá falar.29 O ímpio aparenta um ar firme; o homem correto consolida seu proceder.30 Nem a sabedoria, nem prudência, nem conselho podem prevalescer contra o Senhor.31 Prepara-se o cavalo para o dia da batalha, mas é do senhor que depende a vitória.

1 Like brooks of water is a king’s heart in the hand of the Lord: whithersoever it pleaseth him doth he turn it.2 Every way of a man is straight in his own eyes; but the Lord weigheth the hearts.3 To exercise righteousness and justice is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.4 Haughtiness of the eyes, and an immoderate heart, are the sinful field of the wicked.5 The plans of the diligent tend only to plenty; but every hasty man is destined only to want.6 The getting of treasures by a tongue of falsehood is like the fleeting breath of those that seek death.7 The robbery of the wicked will drag them away; because they refuse to execute justice.8 Perverse is the way of the man that is estranged from goodness; but as for the pure, his work is upright.9 It is better to dwell in a corner of a roof, than with a quarrelsome woman in a roomy house.10 The soul of the wicked longeth for evil: his neighbor findeth no grace in his eyes.11 When the scorner is punished, the simple is made wise: and when the wise is taught intelligence, he receiveth knowledge.12 The righteous regardeth attentively the house of the wicked; but God overturneth the wicked into unhappiness.13 Whoso stoppeth his ears against the cry of the poor, he also will cry himself, but shall not be answered.14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger, and a bribe in the bosom, strong fury.15 It is joy to the righteous to execute justice; but it is a terror to wrong–doers.16 The man that wandereth astray out of the way of intelligence shall rest in the assembly of the departed.17 He that loveth pleasure will be a man of want: he that loveth wine and oil will not become rich.18 The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the treacherous shall be put in the stead of the upright.19 It is better to dwell in a desert land, than with a quarrelsome and vexatious woman.20 There are a desirable treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise; but a foolish man will swallow it up.21 He that pursueth righteousness and kindness will find life, righteousness, and honor.22 A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength in which they trusted.23 Whoso guardeth his mouth and his tongue guardeth his soul against distresses.24 The presumptuous and proud, scorner is his name, dealeth in the wrath of presumption.25 The longing of the slothful will kill him; for his hands refuse to labor.26 All the day he feeleth a great longing; but the righteous giveth and withholdeth not.27 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a sinful purpose?28 A lying witness shall perish; but the man that is obedient to the law can speak for ever.29 A wicked man showeth impudence in his face; but as for the upright, he will consider well his way.30 There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the Lord.31 The horse is prepared for the day of battle; but with the Lord is the victory.
