1 O homem que, apesar das admoestações, se obstina será logo irremediavelmente arruinado.2 Quando dominam os justos, alegra-se o povo; quando governa o ímpio, o povo geme.3 Quem ama a sabedoria alegra seu pai; o que freqüenta as prostitutas dissipa sua fortuna.4 É pela justiça que um rei firma seu país, mas aquele que o sobrecarrega com muitos impostos, o arruína.5 O homem que adula seu próximo estende redes aos seus pés.6 No delito do ímpio há um ardil, mas o justo corre alegremente.7 O justo conhece a causa dos pobres; o ímpio a ignora.8 Os escarnecedores ateiam fogo na cidade, mas os sábios acalmam o furor.9 Discute um sábio com um tolo? Que ele se zangue ou que ele se ria, não terá paz.10 Os homens sanguinários odeiam o íntegro, mas os homens retos tomam cuidado com sua vida.11 O insensato desafoga toda sua ira, mas o sábio a domina e a recalca.12 Quando um soberano presta atenção às mentiras, todos os seus servidores tornam-se maus.13 O pobre e o opressor se encontram: é o Senhor que ilumina os olhos de cada um.14 Um rei que julga com eqüidade os humildes terá seu trono firmado para sempre.15 Vara e correção dão a sabedoria; menino abandonado à sua vontade se torna a vergonha da mãe.16 Quando se multiplicam os ímpios, multiplica-se o crime, mas os justos contemplarão sua queda.17 Corrige teu filho e ele te dará repouso e será as delícias de tua vida.18 Por falta de visão, o povo vive sem freios; ditoso o que observa a instrução!19 Não é com palavras que se corrige um escravo, porque ele compreende, mas não se atém a elas.20 Viste um homem precipitado no falar: há mais esperança num tolo do que nele.21 Um escravo mimado desde sua juventude, acaba por se tornar desobediente.22 Um homem irascível excita contendas; o colérico acumula as faltas.23 O orgulho de um homem leva-o à humilhação, mas o humilde de espírito obtém a glória.24 Quem partilha com o ladrão, odeia-se a si mesmo; ouve a maldição e nada denuncia.25 O temor dos homens prepara um laço, mas quem confia no Senhor permanece seguro.26 Muitos buscam o favor dum príncipe, mas é do Senhor que cada homem alcança justiça27 O homem iníquo é abominado pelos justos; o ímpio abomina aquele que anda pelo caminho certo.

1 A man that, having received many admonitions, still hardeneth his neck, will suddenly be broken, and this without remedy.2 When the righteous are in authority, the people will rejoice; but when the wicked beareth rule, the people groan.3 The man that loveth wisdom causeth his father to rejoice; but he that keepeth company with harlots wasteth his wealth.4 A king will through the exercise of justice establish the welfare of a land; but one that loveth gifts overthroweth it.5 A man that flattereth his neighbor spreadeth a net for his steps.6 In the transgression of a man there is an evil snare: but the righteous ever singeth and rejoiceth.7 The righteous considereth the cause of the indigent: but the wicked will not understand the knowledge of justice.8 Scornful men will kindle confusion in a town; but the wise turn away wrath.9 If a wise man contend with a foolish man, whether he be angry or whether he laugh, he will have no rest.10 Men of blood hate the guiltless one; but the upright seek to preserve his life.11 A fool uttereth all his mind; but the wise holdeth it back.12 If a ruler listen to the word of falsehood, all his servants become wicked.13 The poor and the man of exactions meet together: the Lord enlighteneth the eyes of both of them.14 When a king judgeth in truth the indigent, his throne shall stand firmly for ever.15 The rod and reproof impart wisdom; but a lad abandoned to himself bringeth shame on his mother.16 With the increase of the wicked transgression increaseth; but the righteous shall yet look on their downfall.17 Correct thy son, and he will procure thee rest: yea, he will give delight unto thy soul.18 Without a prophetic vision a people become unruly; but when it observeth the law, then will it be happy.19 Not with words alone can a servant be corrected; for though he understand, there will be no response.20 Seest then a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope for a fool than for him.21 If one rear his servant delicately from his youth, then will he at length become as his son.22 A man of anger stirreth up strife; and a man of fury aboundeth in transgression.23 The pride of a man will humble him; but the humble in spirit will attain to honor.24 Whoso divideth with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth the adjuration and dareth not to tell.25 The dread of man bringeth a snare; but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord will be upheld in safety.26 Many seek the favor of a ruler; but from the Lord cometh justice for man.27 An abomination of the righteous is an unjust man: and an abomination of the wicked is one who is upright in his way.
