1 The wilderness and the dry land will be glad.

The desert will rejoice and blossom like a rose.

2 It will blossom abundantly,

and rejoice even with joy and singing.

Lebanon’s glory will be given to it,

the excellence of Carmel and Sharon.

They will see the LORD’s glory,

the excellence of our God.

3 Strengthen the weak hands,

and make the feeble knees firm.

4 Tell those who have a fearful heart, "Be strong!

Don’t be afraid!

Behold, your God will come with vengeance, God’s retribution.

He will come and save you.

5 Then the eyes of the blind will be opened,

and the ears of the deaf will be unstopped.

6 Then the lame man will leap like a deer,

and the tongue of the mute will sing;

for waters will break out in the wilderness,

and streams in the desert.

7 The burning sand will become a pool,

and the thirsty ground springs of water.

Grass with reeds and rushes will be in the habitation of jackals, where they lay.

8 A highway will be there, a road,

and it will be called "The Holy Way".

The unclean shall not pass over it,

but it will be for those who walk in the Way.

Wicked fools shall not go there.

9 No lion will be there,

nor will any ravenous animal go up on it.

They will not be found there;

but the redeemed will walk there.

10 Then the LORD’s ransomed ones will return,

and come with singing to Zion;

and everlasting joy will be on their heads.

They will obtain gladness and joy,

and sorrow and sighing will flee away."

1 Mas até os desertos e as terras áridas e de solidão se hão-de alegrar nesses dias. O deserto tornar-se-á todo florido!

2 É verdade - haverá ali abundância de flores, música e alegria! Todas essas terras vazias se tornarão tão verdes como as montanhas do Líbano, tão encantadoras como as pastagens do monte Carmelo e os prados de Sarom. O Senhor fará lá uma demonstração espectacular da sua glória, da excelência do nosso Deus.

3 Que estas notícias possam comunicar ânimo e alegria aos desencorajados, cujas mãos estão fracas; cujos joelhos tremem.

4 Digam aos que têm medo no coração: Esforcem-se; nada receiem, porque o vosso Deus está a vir para destruir os vossos inimigos, para vos salvar.

5 Quando chegar, abrirá os olhos aos cegos e os ouvidos aos surdos. Os coxos saltarão como pequenos veados, e os mudos cantarão a plenos pulmões!

7 O chão ressequido se tornará num tanque, devido à abundância de água; os terrenos áridos estarão cheios de fontes jorrando água abundantemente. Onde apenas chacais viviam, agora só se verão juncos e canaviais!

8 E uma importante estrada atravessará aquilo que antes não era mais do que uma terra desértica; será chamada o caminho santo. Nenhum coração malvado caminhará por ela. Deus andará convosco sobre ela, e de tal maneira que até os de inteligência mais reduzida nunca poderão enganar-se no caminho!

9 Não haverá ali leão ou animal feroz que possa vir a atacar alguém. Ninguém se encontrará com eles. Só os que o Senhor libertar andarão por esse caminho.

10 Estes, os que o Senhor resgatou, regressarão a Sião cantando, e com uma alegria perpétua brilhando-lhes no rosto. Estarão cheios de júbilo e de gozo. Para esses, tristezas e gemidos terão terminado para sempre. Só alegria e satisfação haverá ali.
