1 Ó Senhor Deus, a quem a vingança pertence, ó Deus,

a quem a vingança pertence, mostra-te resplandecente.

2 Exalta-te, tu,

que és juiz da terra;

dá a paga aos soberbos.

3 Até quando os ímpios, Senhor,

até quando os ímpios saltarão de prazer?

4 Até quando proferirão,

e falarão coisas duras,

e se gloriarão todos os

que praticam a iniquidade?

5 Reduzem a pedaços o teu povo, ó Senhor,

e afligem a tua herança.

6 Matam a viúva e o estrangeiro,

e ao órfão tiram a vida.

7 Contudo dizem:

O Senhor não o verá;

nem para isso atenderá o Deus de Jacó.

8 Atendei,

ó brutais dentre o povo;

e vós, loucos,

quando sereis sábios?

9 Aquele que fez

o ouvido não ouvirá?

E o que formou o olho,

não verá?

10 Aquele que repreende

os gentios não castigará?

E o

que ensina

ao homem o conhecimento, não saberá?

11 O Senhor conhece

os pensamentos do homem,

que são vaidade.

12 Bem-aventurado é o homem a quem tu castigas,

ó Senhor,

e a quem ensinas a tua lei;

13 Para lhe dares descanso

dos dias maus,

até que se abra

a cova para o ímpio.

14 Pois o Senhor

não rejeitará o seu povo,

nem desamparará

a sua herança.

15 Mas o juízo voltará

à retidão,

e segui-lo-ão todos

os retos de coração.

16 Quem será

por mim contra os malfeitores?

Quem se porá

por mim contra os

que praticam a iniquidade?

17 Se o Senhor não tivera ido em meu auxílio,

a minha alma quase

que teria ficado no silêncio.

18 Quando eu disse:

O meu pé vacila;

a tua benignidade, Senhor, me susteve.

19 Na multidão

dos meus pensamentos dentro de mim,

as tuas consolações recrearam

a minha alma.

20 Porventura o trono

de iniquidade te acompanha,

o qual forja

o mal por uma lei?

21 Eles se ajuntam contra

a alma do justo,

e condenam o sangue inocente.

22 Mas o Senhor é

a minha defesa;

e o meu Deus é

a rocha do meu refúgio.

23 E trará sobre eles

a sua própria iniquidade;

e os destruirá

na sua própria malícia;

o Senhor nosso Deus os destruirá.

1 O ·God* of vengeances, Jehovah, ·God* of vengeances, shine forth; 2 Lift up thyself, thou judge of the earth, render the reward to the proud. 3 How long shall the wicked, O Jehovah, how long shall the wicked triumph? 4 How long shall they utter and speak insolence — all the workers of iniquity boast themselves? 5 They crush thy people, O Jehovah, and afflict thine inheritance; 6 They slay the widow and the stranger, and murder the fatherless, 7 And say, Jah will not see, neither will the God* of Jacob regard it. 8 Understand, ye brutish among the people; and ye fools, when will ye be wise? 9 He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? He that formed the eye, shall he not see? 10 He that instructeth the nations, shall not he correct — he that teacheth man knowledge? 11 Jehovah knoweth the thoughts of man, that they are vanity.

12 Blessed is the man whom thou chastenest, O Jah, and whom thou teachest out of thy law; 13 That thou mayest give him rest from the days of evil, until the pit be digged for the wicked. 14 For Jehovah will not cast off his people, neither will he forsake his inheritance; 15 For judgment shall return unto righteousness, and all the upright in heart shall follow it. 16 Who will rise up for me against the evil-doers? who will stand for me against the workers of iniquity? 17 If Jehovah had not been my help, my soul had almost dwelt in silence. 18 When I said, My foot slippeth, thy loving-kindness, O Jehovah, held me up. 19 In the multitude of my anxious thoughts within me thy comforts have delighted my soul. 20 Shall the throne of wickedness be united to thee, which frameth mischief into a law? 21 They band together against the soul of the righteous, and condemn innocent blood. 22 But Jehovah will be my high tower; and my God* the rock of my refuge. 23 And he will bring upon them their iniquity, and will cut them off in their own evil: Jehovah our God* will cut them off.
