1 Melhor é o pobre que anda na sua integridade do que o perverso de lábios e tolo.2 Assim como não é bom ficar a alma sem conhecimento, peca aquele que se apressa com seus pés.3 A estultícia do homem perverterá o seu caminho, e o seu coração se irará contra o Senhor.4 As riquezas granjeiam muitos amigos, mas ao pobre, o seu próprio amigo o deixa.5 A falsa testemunha não ficará impune e o que respira mentiras não escapará.6 Muitos se deixam acomodar pelos favores do príncipe, e cada um é amigo daquele que dá presentes.7 Todos os irmãos do pobre o odeiam; quanto mais se afastarão dele os seus amigos! Corre após eles com palavras, que não servem de nada.8 O que adquire entendimento ama a sua alma; o que cultiva a inteligência achará o bem.9 A falsa testemunha não ficará impune; e o que profere mentiras perecerá.10 Ao tolo não é certo gozar de deleites; quanto menos ao servo dominar sobre os príncipes!11 A prudência do homem faz reter a sua ira, e é glória sua o passar por cima da transgressão.12 Como o rugido do leão jovem é a indignação do rei, mas como o orvalho sobre a relva é a sua benevolência.13 O filho insensato é uma desgraça para o pai, e um gotejar contínuo as contendas da mulher.14 A casa e os bens são herança dos pais; porém do Senhor vem a esposa prudente.15 A preguiça faz cair em profundo sono, e a alma indolente padecerá fome.16 O que guardar o mandamento guardará a sua alma; porém o que desprezar os seus caminhos morrerá.17 Ao Senhor empresta o que se compadece do pobre, ele lhe pagará o seu benefício.18 Castiga o teu filho enquanto há esperança, mas não deixes que o teu ânimo se exalte até o matar.19 O homem de grande indignação deve sofrer o dano; porque se tu o livrares ainda terás de tornar a fazê-lo.20 Ouve o conselho, e recebe a correção, para que no fim sejas sábio.21 Muitos propósitos há no coração do homem, porém o conselho do Senhor permanecerá.22 O que o homem mais deseja é o que lhe faz bem; porém é melhor ser pobre do que mentiroso.23 O temor do Senhor encaminha para a vida; aquele que o tem ficará satisfeito, e não o visitará mal nenhum.24 O preguiçoso esconde a sua mão ao seio; e não tem disposição nem de torná-la à sua boca.25 Açoita o escarnecedor, e o simples tomará aviso; repreende ao entendido, e aprenderá conhecimento.26 O que aflige o seu pai, ou manda embora sua mãe, é filho que traz vergonha e desonra.27 Filho meu, ouvindo a instrução, cessa de te desviares das palavras do conhecimento.28 A testemunha ímpia escarnece do juízo, e a boca dos perversos devora a iniquidade.29 Preparados estão os juízos para os escarnecedores, e os açoites para as costas dos tolos.

1 Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than one of perverse lips, who is a fool.2 Also in the want of knowledge in the soul there is nothing good; and he that hasteneth with his feet misseth the right path.3 The folly of a man perverteth his way, and against the Lord will his heart rage.4 Wealth bringeth many friends; but the poor becometh separated from his only friend.5 A false witness shall not remain unpunished, and he that uttereth lies shall not escape.6 Many will entreat the favor of the liberal man; and every one is the friend to him that bestoweth gifts.7 All the brothers of the poor hate him: how much more do his friends go far away from him! he pursueth their promises; but these are all that he hath.8 He that getteth intelligence loveth his own soul: he that guardeth understanding will find happiness.9 A false witness shall not remain unpunished, and he that uttereth lies shall perish.10 Delicacy is not seemly for a fool: much less for a servant to have rule over princes.11 It is intelligence in man to be slow in his anger, and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.12 Like the roaring of a young lion is the wrath of a king: as dew upon the herbs is his favor.13 A calamity unto his father is a foolish son; and a continual dropping are the quarrels of a wife.14 House and wealth are an inheritance from fathers; but from the Lord cometh an intelligent wife.15 Slothfulness casteth man into a deep sleep; and an indolent soul will suffer hunger.16 He that observeth the commandment guardeth his own soul: but he that disregardeth directing his ways aright shall die.17 He lendeth unto the Lord that is liberal to the poor, and his good deed will he repay unto him.18 Chastise thy son, for there is hope; and let not thy soul spare him for his crying.19 A man of great fury must suffer punishment; for if thou deliver him, thou must still do it again.20 Hear counsel, and accept correction, in order that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.21 There are many thoughts in a man’s heart; but the counsel of the Lord alone will stand firm.22 The longing of a man is to exercise his kindness; and a poor man is better than a liar.23 The fear of the Lord leadeth unto life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.24 When a slothful man hath hidden his hand in the dish, then will he not even bring it back to his mouth.25 Smite a scorner, and the simple will become prudent; and if one that hath understanding be admonished, he will understand knowledge.26 He that plundereth his father, and chaseth away his mother, is a son that bringeth shame and dishonor.27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth thee to err from the sayings of knowledge.28 An ungodly witness scorneth at justice, and the mouth of the wicked swalloweth mischief.29 Punishments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
