1 Filho meu, se aceitares as minhas palavras, e esconderes contigo os meus mandamentos,2 Para fazeres o teu ouvido atento à sabedoria; e inclinares o teu coração ao entendimento;3 Se clamares por conhecimento, e por inteligência alçares a tua voz,4 Se como a prata a buscares e como a tesouros escondidos a procurares,5 Então entenderás o temor do Senhor, e acharás o conhecimento de Deus.6 Porque o Senhor dá a sabedoria; da sua boca é que vem o conhecimento e o entendimento.7 Ele reserva a verdadeira sabedoria para os retos. Escudo é para os que caminham na sinceridade,8 Para que guardem as veredas do juízo. Ele preservará o caminho dos seus santos.9 Então entenderás a justiça, o juízo, a equidade e todas as boas veredas.10 Pois quando a sabedoria entrar no teu coração, e o conhecimento for agradável à tua alma,11 O discernimento te guardará e a inteligência te conservará;12 Para te afastar do mau caminho, e do homem que fala coisas perversas;13 Dos que deixam as veredas da retidão, para andarem pelos caminhos escusos;14 Que se alegram de fazer mal, e folgam com as perversidades dos maus,15 Cujas veredas são tortuosas e que se desviam nos seus caminhos;16 Para te afastar da mulher estranha, sim da estranha que lisonjeia com suas palavras;17 Que deixa o guia da sua mocidade e se esquece da aliança do seu Deus;18 Porque a sua casa se inclina para a morte, e as suas veredas para os mortos.19 Todos os que se dirigem a ela não voltarão e não atinarão com as veredas da vida.20 Para andares pelos caminhos dos bons, e te conservares nas veredas dos justos.21 Porque os retos habitarão a terra, e os íntegros permanecerão nela.22 Mas os ímpios serão arrancados da terra, e os transgressores serão dela exterminados.

1 My son, if thou wouldst but accept my words, and treasure up my commandments with thee;2 To let thy ear listen unto wisdom: if thou wouldst incline thy heart to understanding.3 For if thou wilt call after intelligence; if after understanding thou wilt lift up thy voice;4 If thou wilt seek her as silver, and search for her as for hidden treasures:5 Then wilt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and the knowledge of God wilt thou find.6 For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth come knowledge and understanding.7 He treasureth up sound wisdom for the righteous, as a shield to those that walk in integrity:8 That men may keep the paths of justice; and the way of his pious servants doth he guard.9 Then wilt thou understand righteousness, and justice, and equity: yea, every track of goodness.10 For wisdom will enter thy heart, and knowledge will be pleasant unto thy soul;11 Discretion will watch over thee, understanding will keep thee;12 To deliver thee from the way of the bad, from the man that speaketh perverse things;13 From those who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;14 Who rejoice to do evil, who are delighted in the perverseness of the bad;15 Who as regardeth their paths are crooked, and froward in their tracks.16 To deliver thee from the adulteress, from the alien woman that useth flattering speeches;17 That forsaketh the friend of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.18 For she sinketh unto death––her house, and unto the departed lead her tracks.19 All that come unto her return not again, and they will not reach the paths of life.20 In order that thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and observe the paths of the righteous.21 For the upright will dwell on the earth, and the perfect will be left remaining on it.22 But the wicked will be cut off from the earth, and the treacherous shall be plucked up therefrom.
