1 O homem que muitas vezes repreendido endurece a cerviz, de repente será destruído sem que haja remédio.2 Quando os justos se engrandecem, o povo se alegra, mas quando o ímpio domina, o povo geme.3 O homem que ama a sabedoria alegra a seu pai, mas o companheiro de prostitutas desperdiça os bens.4 O rei com juízo sustém a terra, mas o amigo de peitas a transtorna.5 O homem que lisonjeia o seu próximo arma uma rede aos seus passos.6 Na transgressão do homem mau há laço, mas o justo jubila e se alegra.7 O justo se informa da causa dos pobres, mas o ímpio nem sequer toma conhecimento.8 Os homens escarnecedores alvoroçam a cidade, mas os sábios desviam a ira.9 O homem sábio que pleiteia com o tolo, quer se zangue, quer se ria, não terá descanso.10 Os homens sanguinários odeiam ao sincero, mas os justos procuram o seu bem.11 O tolo revela todo o seu pensamento, mas o sábio o guarda até o fim.12 O governador que dá atenção às palavras mentirosas, achará que todos os seus servos são ímpios.13 O pobre e o usurário se encontram; o Senhor ilumina os olhos de ambos.14 O rei que julga os pobres conforme a verdade firmará o seu trono para sempre.15 A vara e a repreensão dão sabedoria, mas a criança entregue a si mesma, envergonha a sua mãe.16 Quando os ímpios se multiplicam, multiplicam-se as transgressões, mas os justos verão a sua queda.17 Castiga o teu filho, e te dará descanso; e dará delícias à tua alma.18 Não havendo profecia, o povo perece; porém o que guarda a lei, esse é bem-aventurado.19 O servo não se emendará com palavras, porque, ainda que entenda, todavia não atenderá.20 Tens visto um homem precipitado no falar? Maior esperança há para um tolo do que para ele.21 Quando alguém cria o seu servo com mimos desde a meninice, por fim ele tornar-se-á seu filho.22 O homem iracundo levanta contendas; e o furioso multiplica as transgressões.23 A soberba do homem o abaterá, mas a honra sustentará o humilde de espírito.24 O que tem parte com o ladrão odeia a sua própria alma; ouve maldições, e não o denuncia.25 O temor do homem armará laços, mas o que confia no Senhor será posto em alto retiro.26 Muitos buscam o favor do poderoso, mas o juízo de cada um vem do Senhor.27 Abominação é, para os justos, o homem iníquo; mas abominação é, para o iníquo, o de retos caminhos.

1 A man that, having received many admonitions, still hardeneth his neck, will suddenly be broken, and this without remedy.2 When the righteous are in authority, the people will rejoice; but when the wicked beareth rule, the people groan.3 The man that loveth wisdom causeth his father to rejoice; but he that keepeth company with harlots wasteth his wealth.4 A king will through the exercise of justice establish the welfare of a land; but one that loveth gifts overthroweth it.5 A man that flattereth his neighbor spreadeth a net for his steps.6 In the transgression of a man there is an evil snare: but the righteous ever singeth and rejoiceth.7 The righteous considereth the cause of the indigent: but the wicked will not understand the knowledge of justice.8 Scornful men will kindle confusion in a town; but the wise turn away wrath.9 If a wise man contend with a foolish man, whether he be angry or whether he laugh, he will have no rest.10 Men of blood hate the guiltless one; but the upright seek to preserve his life.11 A fool uttereth all his mind; but the wise holdeth it back.12 If a ruler listen to the word of falsehood, all his servants become wicked.13 The poor and the man of exactions meet together: the Lord enlighteneth the eyes of both of them.14 When a king judgeth in truth the indigent, his throne shall stand firmly for ever.15 The rod and reproof impart wisdom; but a lad abandoned to himself bringeth shame on his mother.16 With the increase of the wicked transgression increaseth; but the righteous shall yet look on their downfall.17 Correct thy son, and he will procure thee rest: yea, he will give delight unto thy soul.18 Without a prophetic vision a people become unruly; but when it observeth the law, then will it be happy.19 Not with words alone can a servant be corrected; for though he understand, there will be no response.20 Seest then a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope for a fool than for him.21 If one rear his servant delicately from his youth, then will he at length become as his son.22 A man of anger stirreth up strife; and a man of fury aboundeth in transgression.23 The pride of a man will humble him; but the humble in spirit will attain to honor.24 Whoso divideth with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth the adjuration and dareth not to tell.25 The dread of man bringeth a snare; but whoso putteth his trust in the Lord will be upheld in safety.26 Many seek the favor of a ruler; but from the Lord cometh justice for man.27 An abomination of the righteous is an unjust man: and an abomination of the wicked is one who is upright in his way.
