1 And when David was a little past the top of the ascent, behold, Ziba the servant of Mephibosheth met him, with a couple of asses saddled, and upon them two hundred loaves of bread, and a hundred clusters of raisins, and a hundred of summer fruits, and a bottle of wine. 2 And the king said unto Ziba, What meanest thou by these? And Ziba said, The asses are for the king’s household to ride on; and the bread and summer fruit for the young men to eat; and the wine, that such as are faint in the wilderness may drink. 3 And the king said, And where is thy master’s son? And Ziba said unto the king, Behold, he abideth at Jerusalem; for he said, To-day will the house of Israel restore me the kingdom of my father. 4 Then said the king to Ziba, Behold, thine is all that pertaineth unto Mephibosheth. And Ziba said, I do obeisance; let me find favor in thy sight, my lord, O king.

5 And when king David came to Bahurim, behold, there came out thence a man of the family of the house of Saul, whose name was Shimei, the son of Gera; he came out, and cursed still as he came. 6 And he cast stones at David, and at all the servants of king David: and all the people and all the mighty men were on his right hand and on his left. 7 And thus said Shimei when he cursed, Begone, begone, thou man of blood, and base fellow: 8 Jehovah hath returned upon thee all the blood of the house of Saul, in whose stead thou hast reigned; and Jehovah hath delivered the kingdom into the hand of Absalom thy son; and, behold, thou art taken in thine own mischief, because thou art a man of blood.

9 Then said Abishai the son of Zeruiah unto the king, Why should this dead dog curse my lord the king? let me go over, I pray thee, and take off his head. 10 And the king said, What have I to do with you, ye sons of Zeruiah? Because he curseth, and because Jehovah hath said unto him, Curse David; who then shall say, Wherefore hast thou done so? 11 And David said to Abishai, and to all his servants, Behold, my son, who came forth from my bowels, seeketh my life: how much more may this Benjamite now do it? let him alone, and let him curse; for Jehovah hath bidden him. 12 It may be that Jehovah will look on the wrong done unto me, and that Jehovah will requite me good for his cursing of me this day. 13 So David and his men went by the way; and Shimei went along on the hill-side over against him, and cursed as he went, and threw stones at him, and cast dust. 14 And the king, and all the people that were with him, came weary; and he refreshed himself there.

15 And Absalom, and all the people, the men of Israel, came to Jerusalem, and Ahithophel with him. 16 And it came to pass, when Hushai the Archite, David’s friend, was come unto Absalom, that Hushai said unto Absalom, Long live the king, Long live the king. 17 And Absalom said to Hushai, Is this thy kindness to thy friend? why wentest thou not with thy friend? 18 And Hushai said unto Absalom, Nay; but whom Jehovah, and this people, and all the men of Israel have chosen, his will I be, and with him will I abide. 19 And again, whom should I serve? should I not serve in the presence of his son? as I have served in thy father’s presence, so will I be in thy presence.

20 Then said Absalom to Ahithophel, Give your counsel what we shall do. 21 And Ahithophel said unto Absalom, Go in unto thy father’s concubines, that he hath left to keep the house; and all Israel will hear that thou art abhorred of thy father: then will the hands of all that are with thee be strong. 22 So they spread Absalom a tent upon the top of the house; and Absalom went in unto his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel. 23 And the counsel of Ahithophel, which he gave in those days, was as if a man inquired at the oracle of God: so was all the counsel of Ahithophel both with David and with Absalom.

1 Când*Cap. 15:30,32. trecuse David puțin de vârf, iată că Țiba*Cap. 9:2., slujitorul lui Mefiboșet, a venit înaintea lui cu doi măgari înșeuați, pe care erau două sute de pâini, o sută de turte de stafide, o sută de roade de vară și un burduf cu vin. 2 Împăratul a zis lui Țiba: „Ce vrei să faci cu acestea?" Și Țiba a răspuns: „Măgarii sunt pentru casa împăratului, pentru călărie, pâinile și roadele de vară sunt pentru hrana tinerilor și vinul, pentru potolirea setei celor*Cap. 15:23;17:29. ce vor fi obosiți în pustie." 3 Împăratul a zis: „Unde este fiul stăpânului tău?" Și*Cap. 19:27. Țiba a răspuns împăratului: „Iată, a rămas la Ierusalim, căci a zis: ‘Astăzi, casa lui Israel îmi va da înapoi împărăția tatălui meu.’" 4 Împăratul*Prov. 18:13. a zis lui Țiba: „Tot ce este al lui Mefiboșet este al tău." Și Țiba a zis: „Mă închin cu plecăciune! Să capăt trecere înaintea ta, împărate, domnul meu!"

5 David ajunsese până la Bahurim. Și de acolo a ieșit un om din familia și din casa lui Saul, numit Șimei*Cap. 19:16.1 Împ. 2:8,44., fiul lui Ghera. El înainta blestemând 6 și a aruncat cu pietre după David și după toți slujitorii împăratului David, în timp ce tot poporul și toți vitejii stăteau la dreapta și la stânga împăratului. 7 Șimei vorbea astfel când blestema: „Du-te, du-te, om*Deut. 13:13. al sângelui, om rău! 8 Domnul face să cadă asupra ta pedeapsa*Jud. 9:24,56,57.1 Împ. 2:32,33. pentru tot sângele*Cap. 1:16;3:28,29;4:11,12. casei lui Saul, al cărui scaun de domnie l-ai luat, și Domnul a dat împărăția în mâinile fiului tău Absalom, și iată-te nenorocit, căci ești un om al sângelui!" 9 Atunci, Abișai, fiul Țeruiei, a zis împăratului: „Pentru ce blestemă*1 Sam. 24:14. Cap. 9:8. acest câine*Exod 22:28. mort pe domnul meu, împăratul? Lasă-mă, te rog, să mă duc să-i tai capul." 10 Dar împăratul a zis: „Ce*Cap. 19:22.1 Pet. 2:23. aveți voi cu mine, fiii Țeruiei? Dacă blestemă, înseamnă că Domnul*2 Împ. 18:25.Plâng. 3:38. i-a zis: ‘Blestemă pe David!’ Cine-i*Rom. 9:20. va zice dar: ‘Pentru ce faci așa?’" 11 Și David a zis lui Abișai și tuturor slujitorilor săi: „Iată că fiul meu*Cap. 12:11., care*Gen. 15:4. a ieșit din trupul meu, vrea să-mi ia viața, cu cât mai mult beniamitul acesta! Lăsați-l să blesteme, căci Domnul i-a zis. 12 Poate că Domnul Se va uita la necazul meu și-mi va*Rom. 8:28. face bine în locul blestemelor de azi." 13 David și oamenii lui și-au văzut de drum. Șimei mergea pe coasta muntelui, în dreptul lui David, și, mergând, blestema, arunca cu pietre împotriva lui și vântura praf. 14 Împăratul și tot poporul care era cu el au ajuns la Aiefim și acolo s-au odihnit.

15 Absalom*Cap. 15:37. și tot poporul, bărbații lui Israel, intraseră în Ierusalim. Ahitofel era și el cu Absalom. 16 Când a ajuns Hușai, Architul, prietenul*Cap. 15:37. lui David, la Absalom, i-a zis: „Trăiască împăratul! Trăiască împăratul!" 17 Și Absalom a zis lui Hușai: „Iată cât de mult ții tu la prietenul tău! Pentru ce nu*Cap. 19:25.Prov. 17:17. te-ai dus cu prietenul tău?" 18 Hușai a răspuns lui Absalom: „Pentru că vreau să fiu al aceluia pe care l-a ales Domnul și tot poporul acesta și toți bărbații lui Israel și cu el vreau să rămân. 19 De altfel, cui*Cap. 15:34. îi voi sluji? Nu fiului său? Cum am slujit tatălui tău, așa îți voi sluji și ție."

20 Absalom a zis lui Ahitofel: „Sfătuiți-vă împreună. Ce avem de făcut?" 21 Și Ahitofel a zis lui Absalom: „Intră la țiitoarele*Cap. 15:16;20:3. pe care le-a lăsat tatăl tău pentru paza casei; astfel tot Israelul va ști că te-ai făcut urât*Gen. 34:30.1 Sam. 13:4. tatălui tău și mâinile tuturor*Cap. 2:7.Zah. 8:13. celor ce sunt cu tine se vor întări." 22 Au întins un cort pentru Absalom pe acoperiș, și Absalom a intrat la țiitoarele tatălui său, în fața întregului*Cap. 12:11,12. Israel. 23 Sfatul dat pe vremea aceea de Ahitofel avea tot atâta putere ca și când ar fi întrebat chiar pe Dumnezeu. Tot așa era cu toate sfaturile lui Ahitofel, fie pentru*Cap. 15:12. David, fie pentru Absalom.
