1 And Naaman, captain of the host of the king of Syria, was a great man before his master, and honourable, for by him Jehovah had given deliverance to Syria; and he was a mighty man of valour, but a leper. 2 And the Syrians had gone out in bands, and had brought away captive out of the land of Israel a little maid; and she waited on Naaman’s wife. 3 And she said to her mistress, Oh, would that my lord were before the prophet that is in Samaria! then he would cure him of his leprosy. 4 And he went and told his lord saying, Thus and thus said the maid that is of the land of Israel. 5 And the king of Syria said, Well! go, and I will send a letter to the king of Israel. And he departed, and took with him ten talents of silver, and six thousand shekels of gold, and ten changes of raiment. 6 And he brought the letter to the king of Israel, saying, And now, when this letter comes to thee, behold, I have sent Naaman my servant to thee, that thou mayest cure him of his leprosy. 7 And it came to pass when the king of Israel had read the letter, that he rent his garments, and said, Am I God*GodHebrew: Elohim to kill and to make alive, that this man sends to me to cure a man of his leprosy? Wherefore consider, I pray you, and see how he seeks an occasion against me. 8 And it was so, when Elisha the man of God*GodHebrew: Elohim had heard that the king of Israel had rent his garments, that he sent to the king, saying, Why hast thou rent thy garments? let him come now to me, and he shall know that there is a prophet in Israel.

9 And Naaman came with his horses and with his chariot, and stood at the doorway of the house of Elisha. 10 And Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, Go and wash in the Jordan seven times, and thy flesh shall come again to thee, and thou shalt be clean. 11 And Naaman was wroth, and went away and said, Behold, I thought, He will certainly come out to me, and stand, and call on the name of Jehovah his God*GodHebrew: Elohim and wave his hand over the place, and cure the leper. 12 Are not the Abanah and the Pharpar, rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? may I not wash in them and be clean? And he turned and went away in a rage. 13 And his servants drew near, and spoke to him and said, My father, if the prophet had bidden thee do some great thing, wouldest thou not have done it? how much rather then, when he says to thee, Wash and be clean? 14 Then he went down, and plunged himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the saying of the man of God*GodHebrew: Elohim And his flesh became again like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.

15 And he returned to the man of God*GodHebrew: Elohim he and all his company, and came and stood before him; and he said, Behold, I know that there is no God*GodHebrew: Elohim in all the earth but in Israel; and now, I pray thee, take a present of thy servant. 16 But he said, As Jehovah liveth, before whom I stand, I will receive none! And he urged him to take it; but he refused. 17 And Naaman said, If not, then let there, I pray thee, be given to thy servant two mules' burden of this earth; for thy servant will no more offer burnt-offering and sacrifice to other gods, but to Jehovah. 18 In this thing Jehovah pardon thy servant: when my master goes into the house of Rimmon to bow down there, and he leans on my hand, and I bow down myself in the house of Rimmon — when I bow down myself in the house of Rimmon, Jehovah pardon thy servant, I pray thee, in this thing. 19 And he said to him, Go in peace. And he departed from him a little way.

20 And Gehazi, the servant of Elisha the man of God*GodHebrew: Elohim said, Behold, my master has spared Naaman, this Syrian, in not receiving at his hands that which he brought; but as Jehovah liveth, I will run after him and take somewhat of him. 21 And Gehazi followed after Naaman. And when Naaman saw him running after him, he sprang down from the chariot to meet him, and said, Is all well? 22 And he said, All is well. My master has sent me saying, Behold, even now there are come to me from mount Ephraim two young men of the sons of the prophets; give them, I pray thee, a talent of silver, and two changes of raiment. 23 And Naaman said, Consent to take two talents. And he urged him, and bound two talents of silver in two bags, with two changes of raiment, and laid them upon two of his young men; and they bore them before him. 24 And when he came to the hill, he took them from their hand, and stowed them in the house; and he let the men go, and they departed. 25 And he entered in and stood before his master. And Elisha said to him, Whence comest thou, Gehazi? And he said, Thy servant went no whither. 26 And he said to him, Did not my heart go, when the man turned again from his chariot to meet thee? Is it a time to receive money, and to receive garments, and oliveyards, and vineyards, and sheep, and oxen, and bondmen, and bondwomen? 27 But the leprosy of Naaman shall fasten upon thee, and upon thy seed for ever. And he went out from his presence leprous, as snow.

1 Naaman*Luca 4:27., căpetenia oștirii împăratului Siriei, avea trecere*Exod 11:3. înaintea stăpânului său și mare vază, căci prin el izbăvise Domnul pe sirieni. Dar omul acesta tare și viteaz era lepros. 2 Și sirienii ieșiseră în cete la o luptă și aduseseră roabă pe o fetiță din țara lui Israel. Ea era în slujba nevestei lui Naaman. 3 Și ea a zis stăpânei sale: „O, dacă domnul meu ar fi la prorocul acela din Samaria, prorocul l-ar tămădui de lepra lui!" 4 Naaman s-a dus și a spus stăpânului său: „Fata aceea din țara lui Israel a vorbit așa și așa." 5 Și împăratul Siriei a zis: „Du-te la Samaria și voi trimite o scrisoare împăratului lui Israel." A plecat luând cu el zece*1 Sam. 9:8. Cap. 8:8,9. talanți de argint, șase mii de sicli de aur și zece haine de schimb. 6 A dus împăratului lui Israel scrisoarea, care glăsuia așa: „Acum, când vei primi scrisoarea aceasta, vei ști că îți trimit pe slujitorul meu Naaman ca să-l vindeci de lepra lui." 7 După ce a citit scrisoarea, împăratul lui Israel și-a rupt hainele și a zis: „Oare sunt eu Dumnezeu*Gen. 30:2.Deut. 32:39.1 Sam. 2:6., ca să omor și să înviez, de-mi spune să vindec pe un om de lepra lui? Să știți dar și să înțelegeți că el caută prilej de ceartă cu mine." 8 Când a auzit Elisei, omul lui Dumnezeu, că împăratul lui Israel și-a sfâșiat hainele, a trimis să spună împăratului: „Pentru ce ți-ai sfâșiat hainele? Lasă-l să vină la mine și va ști că este un proroc în Israel." 9 Naaman a venit cu caii și cu carul lui și s-a oprit la poarta casei lui Elisei. 10 Elisei a trimis să-i spună printr-un sol: „Du-te și scaldă-te*Cap. 4:41.Ioan 9:7. de șapte ori în Iordan; și carnea ți se va face sănătoasă și vei fi curat." 11 Naaman s-a mâniat și a plecat zicând: „Eu credeam că va ieși la mine, se va înfățișa el însuși, va chema Numele Domnului Dumnezeului lui, își va duce mâna pe locul rănii și va vindeca lepra. 12 Nu sunt oare râurile Damascului, Abana și Parpar, mai bune decât toate apele lui Israel? N-aș fi putut oare să mă spăl în ele și să mă fac curat?" Și s-a întors și a plecat plin de mânie. 13 Dar slujitorii lui s-au apropiat să-i vorbească și au zis: „Părinte, dacă prorocul ți-ar fi cerut un lucru greu, nu l-ai fi făcut? Cu atât mai mult trebuie să faci ce ți-a spus: ‘Scaldă-te și vei fi curat.’" 14 S-a coborât atunci și s-a cufundat de șapte ori în Iordan, după cuvântul omului lui Dumnezeu, și carnea*Iov 33:25. lui s-a făcut iarăși cum este carnea unui copilaș și s-a*Luca 4:27. curățit. 15 Naaman s-a întors la omul lui Dumnezeu cu tot alaiul lui. Când a ajuns, s-a înfățișat înaintea lui și a zis: „Iată, cunosc acum că nu este Dumnezeu*Dan. 2:47;3:29;6:26,27. pe tot pământul decât în Israel. Și acum, primește, rogu-te, un dar*Gen. 33:11. din partea robului tău." 16 Elisei a răspuns: „Viu este*Cap. 3:14. Domnul, al cărui slujitor sunt, că nu*Gen. 14:23.Mat. 10:8.Fapte 8:18,20. voi primi." Naaman a stăruit de el să primească, dar el n-a vrut. 17 Atunci, Naaman a zis: „Fiindcă nu vrei să primești tu, îngăduie să se dea robului tău pământ cât pot duce doi catâri, căci robul tău nu mai vrea să mai aducă altor dumnezei nici ardere-de-tot, nici jertfă, ci va aduce numai Domnului. 18 Iată totuși ce rog pe Domnul să ierte robului tău: când stăpânul meu intră în casa lui Rimon să se închine acolo și se sprijină*Cap. 7:2,17. pe mâna mea, mă închin și eu în casa lui Rimon – să ierte Domnul pe robul tău când mă voi închina în casa lui Rimon!" 19 Elisei i-a zis: „Du-te în pace!"

După ce a plecat Naaman de la Elisei și a fost la o depărtare bunicică, 20 Ghehazi, slujitorul lui Elisei, omul lui Dumnezeu, a zis în sine: „Iată că stăpânul meu a cruțat pe sirianul acela, Naaman, și n-a primit din mâna lui ce adusese. Viu este Domnul că voi alerga după el și voi căpăta ceva de la el." 21 Și Ghehazi a alergat după Naaman. Naaman, când l-a văzut alergând după el, s-a dat jos din car ca să-i iasă înainte și a zis: „Este bine totul?" 22 El a răspuns: „Totul este bine. Stăpânul meu mă trimite să-ți spun: ‘Iată că au venit la mine doi tineri din muntele lui Efraim, dintre fiii prorocilor, dă-mi pentru ei, te rog, un talant de argint și două haine de schimb.’" 23 Naaman a zis: „Fă-mi plăcerea și ia doi talanți." A stăruit de el și a legat doi talanți de argint în doi saci, împreună cu două haine de schimb, și a pus pe doi din slujitorii săi să le ducă înaintea lui Ghehazi. 24 Ajungând la deal, Ghehazi le-a luat din mâinile lor și le-a pus în casă. Apoi a dat drumul oamenilor acelora, care au plecat. 25 După aceea s-a dus și s-a înfățișat înaintea stăpânului său. Elisei i-a zis: „De unde vii, Ghehazi?" El a răspuns: „Robul tău nu s-a dus nicăieri." 26 Dar Elisei i-a zis: „Oare n-a fost duhul meu cu tine când a lăsat omul acela carul și a venit înaintea ta? Este oare acum vremea de luat argint, haine, măslini, vii, oi, boi, robi și roabe? 27 Lepra lui Naaman se va lipi*1 Tim. 6:10. de tine și de sămânța ta pentru totdeauna." Și Ghehazi a ieșit dinaintea lui Elisei plin*Exod 4:10.Num. 12:10. Cap. 15:5. de lepră, alb ca zăpada.
