1 What then is the superiority of the Jew? or what the profit of circumcision? 2 Much every way: and first, indeed, that to them were entrusted the oracles of God. 3 For what? if some have not believed, shall their unbelief make the faith of God of none effect? 4 Far be the thought: but let God be true, and every man false; according as it is written, So that thou shouldest be justified in thy words, and shouldest overcome when thou art in judgment. 5 But if our unrighteousness commend God’s righteousness, what shall we say? Is God unrighteous who inflicts wrath? I speak according to man. 6 Far be the thought: since how shall God judge the world? 7 For if the truth of God, in my lie, has more abounded to his glory, why yet am I also judged as a sinner? 8 and not, according as we are injuriously charged, and according as some affirm that we say, Let us practise evil things, that good ones may come? whose judgment is just. 9 What then? are we better? No, in no wise: for we have before charged both Jews and Greeks with being all under sin: 10 according as it is written, There is not a righteous man, not even one; 11 there is not the man that understands, there is not one that seeks after God. 12 All have gone out of the way, they have together become unprofitable; there is not one that practises goodness, there is not so much as one: 13 their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; asps' poison is under their lips: 14 whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness; 15 swift their feet to shed blood; 16 ruin and misery are in their ways, 17 and way of peace they have not known: 18 there is no fear of God before their eyes.

19 Now we know that whatever the things the law says, it speaks to those under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world be under judgment to God. 20 Wherefore by works of law no flesh shall be justified before him; for by law is knowledge of sin. 21 But now without law righteousness of God is manifested, borne witness to by the law and the prophets; 22 righteousness of God by faith of Jesus Christ towards all, and upon all those who believe: for there is no difference; 23 for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 being justified freely by his grace through the redemption which is in Christ Jesus; 25 whom God has set forth a mercy-seat, through faith in his blood, for the shewing forth of his righteousness, in respect of the passing by the sins that had taken place before, through the forbearance of God; 26 for the shewing forth of his righteousness in the present time, so that he should be just, and justify him that is of the faith of Jesus. 27 Where then is boasting? It has been excluded. By what law? of works? Nay, but by law of faith; 28 for we reckon that a man is justified by faith, without works of law. 29 Is God the God of Jews only? is he not of the nations also? Yea, of nations also: 30 since indeed it is one God who shall justify the circumcision on the principle of faith, and uncircumcision by faith. 31 Do we then make void law by faith? Far be the thought: no, but we establish law.

Dimpotrivă, Dumnezeu*Ioan 3:33. să fie găsit adevărat și toți*Ps. 62:9;116:11. oamenii să fie găsiți mincinoși, după cum este scris: „Ca*Ps. 51:4. să fii găsit neprihănit în cuvintele Tale și să ieși biruitor când vei fi judecat." 5 Dar, dacă nelegiuirea noastră pune în lumină neprihănirea lui Dumnezeu, ce vom zice? Nu cumva Dumnezeu este nedrept când Își dezlănțuie mânia? (Vorbesc*Cap. 6:19.Gal. 3:15. în felul oamenilor.) 6 Nicidecum! Pentru că, altfel, cum*Gen. 18:25.Iov 8:3;34:17. va judeca Dumnezeu lumea? 7 Și dacă, prin minciuna mea, adevărul lui Dumnezeu strălucește și mai mult spre slava Lui, de ce mai sunt eu însumi judecat ca păcătos? 8 Și de ce să*Cap. 5:20;6:1,15. nu facem răul ca să vină bine din el, cum pretind unii, care ne vorbesc de rău, că spunem noi? Osânda acestor oameni este dreaptă.

9 Ce urmează atunci? Suntem noi mai buni decât ei? Nicidecum. Fiindcă am dovedit că toți*Vers. 23.Gal. 3:22., fie iudei, fie greci, sunt sub păcat, 10 după cum este scris: „Nu este niciun om neprihănit, niciunul măcar. 11 Nu*Ps. 14:1-3;53:1. este niciunul care să aibă pricepere. Nu este niciunul care să caute cu tot dinadinsul pe Dumnezeu. 12 Toți s-au abătut și au ajuns niște netrebnici. Nu este niciunul care să facă binele, niciunul măcar. 13 Gâtlejul*Ps. 5:9.Ier. 5:16. lor este un mormânt deschis; se slujesc de limbile lor ca să înșele; sub buze au venin*Ps. 140:3. de aspidă; 14 gura*Ps. 10:7. le este plină de blestem și de amărăciune; 15 au picioarele grabnice*Prov. 1:16.Is. 59:7,8. să verse sânge; 16 prăpădul și pustiirea sunt pe drumul lor; 17 nu cunosc calea păcii; 18 frica de Dumnezeu nu*Ps. 36:1. este înaintea ochilor lor." 19 Știm însă că tot ce*Ioan 10:34;15:25. spune Legea, spune celor ce sunt sub Lege, pentru ca orice*Iov 5:16.Ps. 107:42.Ezec. 16:63. Cap. 1:20;2:1. gură să fie astupată și toată*Cap. 2:2. Vers. 9,23. lumea să fie găsită vinovată înaintea lui Dumnezeu. 20 Căci nimeni nu va fi socotit neprihănit înaintea Lui prin*Ps. 143:2.Fapte 13:39.Gal. 2:16;3:11.Efes. 2:8,9.Tit 3:5. faptele Legii, deoarece prin*Cap. 7:7. Lege vine cunoștința deplină a păcatului.

21 Dar acum s-a arătat o neprihănire*Fapte 15:11. Cap. 1:17.Filip. 3:9.Evr. 11:4.*3:21 Grecește: dreptate. pe care o dă Dumnezeu, fără lege – despre ea mărturisesc*Ioan 5:46.Fapte 26:22. Legea și*Cap. 1:2.1 Pet. 1:10. Prorocii – 22 și anume neprihănirea dată de Dumnezeu, care vine prin*Cap. 4. credința în Isus Hristos, pentru toți și peste toți cei ce cred în El. Nu*Cap. 10:12.Gal. 3:28.Col. 3:11. este nicio deosebire. 23 Căci toți*Vers. 9. Cap. 11:32.Gal. 3:22. au păcătuit și sunt lipsiți de slava lui Dumnezeu. 24 Și sunt socotiți neprihăniți, fără plată, prin*Cap. 4:16.Efes. 2:8.Tit 3:5,7. harul Său, prin*Mat. 20:28.Efes. 1:7.Col. 1:11.1 Tim. 2:6.Evr. 9:12.1 Pet. 1:18,19. răscumpărarea care este în Hristos Isus. 25 Pe El, Dumnezeu L-a rânduit mai dinainte să fie*Lev. 16:15.1 Ioan 2:2;4:10., prin credința în sângele*Col. 1:20. Lui, o jertfă de ispășire, ca să-Și arate neprihănirea Lui, căci*Fapte 13:38,39.1 Tim. 1:15.Fapte 17:30.Evr. 9:15. trecuse cu vederea păcatele dinainte, în vremea îndelungii răbdări a lui Dumnezeu, 26 pentru ca, în vremea de acum, să-Și arate neprihănirea Lui în așa fel încât să fie neprihănit, și totuși să socotească neprihănit pe cel ce crede în Isus. 27 Unde este dar*Cap. 2:17,23;4:2.1 Cor. 1:29,31.Efes. 2:9. pricina de laudă? S-a dus. Prin ce fel de lege? A faptelor? Nu, ci prin legea credinței. 28 Pentru că noi credem că omul este socotit neprihănit prin*Fapte 13:38,39. Vers. 20-22. Cap. 8:3.Gal. 2:16. credință, fără faptele Legii. 29 Sau, poate, Dumnezeu este numai Dumnezeul iudeilor? Nu este și al neamurilor? Da, este și al neamurilor, 30 deoarece Dumnezeu este unul*Cap. 10:12,13.Gal. 3:8,20,28. singur și El va socoti neprihăniți prin credință pe cei tăiați împrejur și tot prin credință și pe cei netăiați împrejur.

31 Deci prin credință desființăm noi Legea? Nicidecum. Dimpotrivă, noi întărim Legea.
