1 And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the third month, in the first day of the month, that the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, say unto Pharaoh king of Egypt, and to his multitude; Whom art thou like in thy greatness? 3 Behold, the Assyrian was a cedar in Lebanon with fair branches, and with a shadowing shroud, and of an high stature; and his top was among the thick boughs. 4 The waters nourished him, the deep made him to grow: her rivers ran round about her plantation; and she sent out her channels unto all the trees of the field. 5 Therefore his stature was exalted above all the trees of the field: and his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long by reason of many waters, when he shot them forth. 6 All the fowls of heaven made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches did all the beasts of the field bring forth their young, and under his shadow dwelt all great nations. 7 Thus was he fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: for his root was by many waters. 8 The cedars in the garden of God could not hide him: the fir trees were not like his boughs, and the plane trees were not as his branches; nor was any tree in the garden of God like unto him in his beauty. 9 I made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him. 10 Therefore thus said the Lord GOD: Because thou art exalted in stature, and he hath set his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height; 11 I will even deliver him into the hand of the mighty one of the nations; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness. 12 And strangers, the terrible of the nations, have cut him off, and have left him: upon the mountains and in all the valleys his branches are fallen, and his boughs are broken by all the watercourses of the land; and all the peoples of the earth are gone down from his shadow, and have left him. 13 Upon his ruin all the fowls of the heaven shall dwell, and all the beasts of the field shall be upon his branches: 14 to the end that none of all the trees by the waters exalt themselves in their stature, neither set their top among the thick boughs, nor that their mighty ones stand up in their height, even all that drink water: for they are all delivered unto death, to the nether parts of the earth, in the midst of the children of men, with them that go down to the pit. 15 Thus saith the Lord GOD: In the day when he went down to hell I caused a mourning: I covered the deep for him, and I restrained the rivers thereof, and the great waters were stayed: and I caused Lebanon to mourn for him, and all the trees of the field fainted for him. 16 I made the nations to shake at the sound of his fall, when I cast him down to hell with them that descend into the pit: and all the trees of Eden, the choice and best of Lebanon, all that drink water, were comforted in the nether parts of the earth. 17 They also went down into hell with him unto them that be slain by the sword; yea, they that were his arm, that dwelt under his shadow in the midst of the nations. 18 To whom art thou thus like in glory and in greatness among the trees of Eden? yet shalt thou be brought down with the trees of Eden unto the nether parts of the earth: thou shalt lie in the midst of the uncircumcised, with them that be slain by the sword. This is Pharaoh and all his multitude, saith the Lord GOD.

1 No décimo primeiro ano, no terceiro mês, no primeiro dia do mês, a palavra do Senhor veio a mim, dizendo:

2 — Filho do homem, diga a Faraó, rei do Egito, e à multidão do seu povo:

"A quem você é semelhante

em sua grandeza?

3 Eis que a Assíria

era um cedro no Líbano,

de lindos ramos,

de sombrosa folhagem

e de grande estatura, cujo topo

chegava até as nuvens.

4 As águas o fizeram crescer;

as fontes do abismo

o fortaleceram,

fazendo correr as suas torrentes

no lugar em que

ele estava plantado

e enviando os seus ribeiros

para todas as árvores

do campo.

5 Cresceu mais do que

todas as árvores do campo;

os seus galhos se multiplicaram

e os seus ramos se alongaram,

por causa das muitas águas

durante o seu crescimento.

6 Todas as aves do céu

se aninhavam nos seus galhos,

todos os animais do campo

davam cria debaixo

dos seus ramos,

e todos os grandes povos

se assentavam à sua sombra.

7 Ele era formoso na sua grandeza

e na extensão dos seus ramos,

porque as suas raízes

estavam junto às muitas águas.

8 Os cedros no jardim de Deus

não lhe eram rivais;

os ciprestes não igualavam

os seus ramos,

e os plátanos não tinham renovos

como os seus;

nenhuma árvore no jardim de Deus

se assemelhava a esse cedro

na sua formosura.

9 Eu o fiz formoso, com a multidão

dos seus ramos.

Todas as árvores do Éden,

que estavam no jardim de Deus,

tinham inveja dele."

10 — Portanto, assim diz o Senhor Deus: Visto que ela elevou a sua estatura, o seu topo chegou até as nuvens e o seu coração ficou orgulhoso da sua altura, 11 eu entregarei essa árvore nas mãos da mais poderosa das nações, que certamente lhe dará o tratamento que a sua impiedade merece. Eu a rejeitei. 12 Os mais terríveis estrangeiros dentre as nações a cortaram e a abandonaram. Os seus galhos caíram sobre os montes e por todos os vales; os seus ramos jazem quebrados em todos os ribeiros da terra; todos os povos da terra se retiraram da sua sombra e a deixaram. 13 Todas as aves do céu habitarão nas suas ruínas, e todos os animais selvagens se acolherão sob os seus ramos. 14 Isso aconteceu para que todas as árvores junto às águas não elevem a sua estatura nem levantem o seu topo até as nuvens, e para que as bem-regadas não venham a confiar em si, por causa da sua altura. Porque todas foram entregues à morte, às profundezas da terra, no meio dos filhos dos homens, com os que descem à cova.

15 — Assim diz o Senhor Deus: No dia em que a árvore desceu ao mundo dos mortos, fiz com que houvesse luto. Por causa dela, cobri o abismo, retive as suas cadeias, e as suas muitas águas se detiveram; cobri o Líbano de preto, por causa dela, e todas as árvores do campo ficaram murchas por causa dela. 16 Fiz tremer as nações ao som da sua queda, quando a fiz descer ao mundo dos mortos com os que descem ao abismo. Todas as árvores do Éden, as mais bonitas e as melhores do Líbano, todas as que foram regadas pelas águas se consolavam nas profundezas da terra. 17 Também estas, com ela, descerão ao mundo dos mortos, para juntar-se com os que foram mortos à espada; sim, os que foram o braço dela e que estavam assentados à sua sombra entre as nações.

18 — A quem, pois, você é semelhante em glória e em grandeza entre as árvores do Éden? No entanto, você descerá às profundezas da terra com as árvores do Éden. No meio dos incircuncisos, você jazerá com os que foram mortos à espada. Este é Faraó e toda a sua pompa, diz o Senhor Deus.
