1 Moreover, take thou up a lamentation for the princes of Israel, 2 and say, What was thy mother? A lioness: she couched among lions, in the midst of the young lions she nourished her whelps. 3 And she brought up one of her whelps; he became a young lion: and he learned to catch the prey, he devoured men. 4 The nations also heard of him; he was taken in their pit: and they brought him with hooks unto the land of Egypt. 5 Now when she saw that she had waited, and her hope was lost, then she took another of her whelps, and made him a young lion. 6 And he went up and down among the lions, he became a young lion: and he learned to catch the prey, he devoured men. 7 And he knew their palaces, and laid waste their cities; and the land was desolate, and the fulness thereof, because of the noise of his roaring. 8 Then the nations set against him on every side from the provinces: and they spread their net over him; he was taken in their pit. 9 And they put him in a cage with hooks, and brought him to the king of Babylon; they brought him into strong holds, that his voice should no more be heard upon the mountains of Israel. 10 Thy mother was like a vine, in thy blood, planted by the waters: she was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters. 11 And she had strong rods for the sceptres of them that bare rule, and their stature was exalted among the thick boughs, and they were seen in their height with the multitude of their branches. 12 But she was plucked up in fury, she was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up her fruit: her strong rods were broken off and withered; the fire consumed them. 13 And now she is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty land. 14 And fire is gone out of the rods of her branches, it hath devoured her fruit, so that there is in her no strong rod to be a sceptre to rule. This is a lamentation, and shall be for a lamentation.

1 — Quanto a você, faça uma lamentação sobre os príncipes de Israel. 2 Diga:

"Que bela leoa entre os leões

era a sua mãe!

Deitada entre os leõezinhos,

criou os seus filhotes.

3 Criou um dos seus filhotinhos, que,

ao se tornar um leãozinho,

aprendeu a despedaçar a presa;

chegou a devorar gente.

4 Quando as nações

ouviram falar dele,

o apanharam na cova que fizeram,

e ele foi levado com ganchos

para a terra do Egito.

5 Vendo frustrada

e perdida a sua esperança,

a leoa pegou

outro dos seus filhotes

e o fez leãozinho.

6 Este, andando entre os leões,

veio a ser um leãozinho

e aprendeu a despedaçar a presa;

chegou a devorar gente.

7 Destruiu palácios

e arrasou cidades.

A terra e os seus moradores

ficaram assustados,

ao ouvirem o seu rugido.

8 Então se ajuntaram contra ele

os povos das províncias vizinhas.

Estenderam sobre ele a rede,

e ele foi apanhado

na cova que fizeram.

9 Com ganchos, meteram-no

dentro de uma jaula

e o levaram ao rei da Babilônia.

Deixaram-no preso,

para que nunca mais se ouvisse

o seu rugido nos montes de Israel."

10 "Sua mãe era como uma videira

dentro da vinha,

plantada junto às águas;

ela frutificou

e se encheu de ramos,

por causa das muitas águas.

11 Os galhos fortes se tornaram

para ela cetros de dominadores.

A sua estatura

se elevou até as nuvens,

e na sua altura era visível

com a multidão dos seus ramos.

12 Mas ela foi arrancada com furor

e jogada no chão.

O vento leste secou os seus frutos.

Seus fortes galhos

foram quebrados e secaram;

o fogo os consumiu.

13 Agora, a videira está plantada

no deserto,

numa terra seca e sedenta.

14 Do ramo principal saiu fogo

que consumiu o seu fruto,

de maneira que já não há nela

galho forte

que sirva de cetro para dominar."

Esta é uma lamentação e ficará servindo de lamentação.
