1 In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall punish leviathan the swift serpent, and leviathan the crooked serpent; and he shall slay the dragon that is in the sea. 2 In that day: A vineyard of wine, sing ye unto it. 3 I the LORD do keep it; I will water it every moment: lest any hurt it, I will keep it night and day. 4 Fury is not in me: would that the briers and thorns were against me in battle! I would march upon them, I would burn them together. 5 Or else let him take hold of my strength, that he may make peace with me; yea, let him make peace with me. 6 In days to come shall Jacob take root; Israel shall blossom and bud: and they shall fill the face of the world with fruit. 7 Hath he smitten him as he smote those that smote him? or is he slain according to the slaughter of them that were slain by him? 8 In measure, when thou sendest her away, thou dost contend with her; he hath removed her with his rough blast in the day of the east wind. 9 Therefore by this shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged, and this is all the fruit of taking away his sin; when he maketh all the stones of the altar as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder, so that the Asherim and the sun-images shall rise no more. 10 For the defenced city is solitary, an habitation deserted and forsaken, like the wilderness: there shall the calf feed, and there shall he lie down, and consume the branches thereof. 11 When the boughs thereof are withered, they shall be broken off; the women shall come, and set them on fire: for it is a people of no understanding; therefore he that made them will not have compassion upon them, and he that formed them will shew them no favour. 12 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the LORD shall beat off his fruit, from the flood of the River unto the brook of Egypt, and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye children of Israel. 13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that a great trumpet shall be blown; and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and they that were outcasts in the land of Egypt; and they shall worship the LORD in the holy mountain at Jerusalem.

1 Naquele dia,

com a sua espada terrível,

grande e forte,

o Senhor castigará

o Leviatã, serpente veloz,

o Leviatã, serpente sinuosa;

ele matará o monstro

que está no mar.

2 Naquele dia, o Senhor dirá:

"Cantem a respeito

da vinha deliciosa!

3 Eu, o Senhor, a vigio

e a rego constantemente.

De dia e de noite eu cuido dela,

para que ninguém lhe faça dano.

4 Não estou irado com ela.

Quem me dera ter espinheiros

e ervas daninhas diante de mim!

Em guerra, eu iria contra eles

e os queimaria ao mesmo tempo.

5 Ou que se ponham

sob a minha proteção

e façam as pazes comigo;

sim, que façam as pazes comigo."

6 Virão dias em que Jacó lançará raízes

e Israel florescerá e brotará;

e encherão o mundo de frutos.

7 Será mesmo que o Senhor

castigou Israel

como fez com aqueles

que castigaram o seu povo?

Ou o matou, assim como fez

com aqueles que mataram

o seu povo?

8 Com "xô!", "xô!" e exílio o trataste;

com forte sopro o expulsaste

no dia do vento leste.

9 Portanto, com isto será expiada

a culpa de Jacó.

E este será todo o fruto do perdão

do seu pecado:

quando ele fizer com que

todas as pedras

dos altares pagãos

sejam esmigalhadas,

como se fossem pedras de cal,

os postes da deusa Aserá

e os altares do incenso

não ficarão em pé.

10 Porque a cidade fortificada

está solitária;

é habitação desamparada

e abandonada

como um deserto.

Ali pastam os bezerros;

ali eles se deitam e comem

os ramos das árvores.

11 Quando os ramos secam,

são quebrados.

Então vêm as mulheres

e os apanham para fazer fogo.

Porque este é um povo

que não tem entendimento;

por isso, aquele que o fez

não terá compaixão dele,

e aquele que o formou

não será gracioso para com ele.

12 Naquele dia, em que o Senhor debulhará o seu cereal desde o Eufrates até o ribeiro do Egito, vocês, filhos de Israel, serão colhidos um a um.

13 Naquele dia, se tocará uma grande trombeta, e os que andavam perdidos pela terra da Assíria e os que foram desterrados para a terra do Egito virão e adorarão o Senhor no monte santo em Jerusalém.
