1 Cry aloud, spare not, lift up thy voice like a trumpet, and declare unto my people their transgression, and to the house of Jacob their sins. 2 Yet they seek me daily, and delight to know my ways: as a nation that did righteousness and forsook not the ordinance of their God, they ask of me righteous ordinances, they delight to draw near unto God. 3 Wherefore have we fasted, say they, and thou seest not? wherefore have we afflicted our soul, and thou takest no knowledge? Behold, in the day of your fast ye find your own pleasure, and exact all your labours. 4 Behold, ye fast for strife and contention, and to smite with the fist of wickedness: ye fast not this day so as to make your voice to be heard on high. 5 Is such the fast that I have chosen? the day for a man to afflict his soul? Is it to bow down his head as a rush, and to spread sackcloth and ashes under him? wilt thou call this a fast, and an acceptable day to the LORD? 6 Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? 7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? 8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thy healing shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rearward. 9 Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking wickedly; 10 and if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in darkness, and thine obscurity be as the noonday: 11 and the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in dry places, and make strong thy bones; and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not. 12 And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in. 13 If thou turn away thy foot from the sabbath, from doing thy pleasure on my holy day; and call the sabbath a delight, and the holy of the LORD honourable; and shalt honour it, not doing thine own ways, nor finding thine own pleasure, nor speaking thine own words: 14 then shalt thou delight thyself in the LORD; and I will make thee to ride upon the high places of the earth; and I will feed thee with the heritage of Jacob thy father: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it.

1 "Grite a plenos pulmões,
não se detenha!
Erga a voz como a trombeta
e anuncie ao meu povo
a sua transgressão
e à casa de Jacó, os seus pecados.
2 Mesmo neste estado,
ainda me procuram dia a dia,
têm prazer em saber
os meus caminhos.
Como povo que pratica a justiça
e não deixa o direito do seu Deus,
perguntam-me
por sentenças justas,
têm prazer em se aproximar
de Deus,
3 dizendo: ‘Por que jejuamos,
se tu nem notas?
Por que nos humilhamos,
se tu não levas isso em conta?’
Acontece que,
no dia em que jejuam,
vocês cuidam
dos seus próprios interesses
e oprimem os seus trabalhadores.
4 Eis que vocês jejuam
apenas para discutir,
brigar e bater uns nos outros;
jejuando assim como hoje,
o clamor de vocês
não será ouvido lá no alto.
5 Seria este o jejum que escolhi:
que num só dia a pessoa se humilhe,
incline a sua cabeça como o junco
e estenda debaixo de si
pano de saco e cinza?
É isso o que vocês chamam
de jejum
e dia aceitável ao Senhor?
6 Será que não é este
o jejum que escolhi:
que vocês quebrem
as correntes da injustiça,
desfaçam as ataduras da servidão,
deixem livres os oprimidos
e acabem com todo tipo
de servidão?
7 Será que não é também
que vocês repartam
o seu pão com os famintos,
recolham em casa
os pobres desabrigados,
vistam os que encontrarem nus
e não voltem as costas
ao seu semelhante?"
8 "Então a luz de vocês romperá
como a luz do alvorecer,
e a sua cura brotará sem demora;
a justiça irá adiante de vocês,
e a glória do Senhor
será a sua retaguarda.
9 Então vocês pedirão ajuda,
e o Senhor responderá;
gritarão por socorro,
e ele dirá: ‘Eis-me aqui.’"
"Se tirarem do meio de vocês
todo tipo de servidão,
o dedo que ameaça
e a linguagem ofensiva;
10 se abrirem o seu coração
aos famintos
e socorrerem os aflitos,
então a luz de vocês nascerá
nas trevas,
e a escuridão
em que vocês se encontram
será como a luz do meio-dia.
11 O Senhor os guiará
continuamente,
lhes dará de comer
até em lugares áridos
e fortalecerá os seus ossos.
Vocês serão
como um jardim regado
e como um manancial
cujas águas nunca secam.
12 Vocês reconstruirão
as antigas ruínas,
levantarão os fundamentos
de muitas gerações
e serão chamados de
‘Reparadores de brechas’
e ‘Restauradores de veredas’,
para que o país
se torne habitável."
13 "Se vigiarem os seus pés,
para não profanarem o sábado;
se deixarem de cuidar
dos seus próprios interesses
no meu santo dia;
se chamarem ao sábado
de ‘meu prazer’
e ‘santo dia do Senhor,
digno de honra’;
se guardarem o sábado,
não seguindo
os seus próprios caminhos,
não pretendendo fazer
a sua própria vontade,
nem falando palavras vãs,
14 então vocês terão no Senhor
a sua fonte de alegria.
Eu os farei cavalgar
sobre os altos da terra
e os sustentarei com a herança
de Jacó, seu pai.
Porque a boca do Senhor o disse."
