Genesis 46

Jacob Goes to Egypt

1 So Israel set out with all that was his, and when he reached Beersheba, he offered sacrifices to the God of his father Isaac.

2 And God spoke to Israel in a vision at night and said, "Jacob! Jacob!"

"Here I am," he replied.

3 "I am God, the God of your father," he said. "Do not be afraid to go down to Egypt, for I will make you into a great nation there. 4 I will go down to Egypt with you, and I will surely bring you back again. And Joseph’s own hand will close your eyes."

5 Then Jacob left Beersheba, and Israel’s sons took their father Jacob and their children and their wives in the carts that Pharaoh had sent to transport him. 6 So Jacob and all his offspring went to Egypt, taking with them their livestock and the possessions they had acquired in Canaan. 7 Jacob brought with him to Egypt his sons and grandsons and his daughters and granddaughters—all his offspring.

8 These are the names of the sons of Israel (Jacob and his descendants) who went to Egypt:

Reuben the firstborn of Jacob.

9 The sons of Reuben:

Hanok, Pallu, Hezron and Karmi.

10 The sons of Simeon:

Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman.

11 The sons of Levi:

Gershon, Kohath and Merari.

12 The sons of Judah:

Er, Onan, Shelah, Perez and Zerah (but Er and Onan had died in the land of Canaan).

The sons of Perez:

Hezron and Hamul.

13 The sons of Issachar:

Tola, Puah,*46:13 Samaritan Pentateuch and Syriac (see also 1 Chron. 7:1); Masoretic Text Puvah Jashub*46:13 Samaritan Pentateuch and some Septuagint manuscripts (see also Num. 26:24 and 1 Chron. 7:1); Masoretic Text Iob and Shimron.

14 The sons of Zebulun:

Sered, Elon and Jahleel.

15 These were the sons Leah bore to Jacob in Paddan Aram,*46:15 That is, Northwest Mesopotamia besides his daughter Dinah. These sons and daughters of his were thirty-three in all.

16 The sons of Gad:

Zephon,*46:16 Samaritan Pentateuch and Septuagint (see also Num. 26:15); Masoretic Text Ziphion Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi and Areli.

17 The sons of Asher:

Imnah, Ishvah, Ishvi and Beriah.

Their sister was Serah.

The sons of Beriah:

Heber and Malkiel.

18 These were the children born to Jacob by Zilpah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Leah—sixteen in all.

19 The sons of Jacob’s wife Rachel:

Joseph and Benjamin. 20 In Egypt, Manasseh and Ephraim were born to Joseph by Asenath daughter of Potiphera, priest of On.*46:20 That is, Heliopolis

21 The sons of Benjamin:

Bela, Beker, Ashbel, Gera, Naaman, Ehi, Rosh, Muppim, Huppim and Ard.

22 These were the sons of Rachel who were born to Jacob—fourteen in all.

23 The son of Dan:

Hushim.

24 The sons of Naphtali:

Jahziel, Guni, Jezer and Shillem.

25 These were the sons born to Jacob by Bilhah, whom Laban had given to his daughter Rachel—seven in all.

26 All those who went to Egypt with Jacob—those who were his direct descendants, not counting his sons’ wives—numbered sixty-six persons. 27 With the two sons*46:27 Hebrew; Septuagint the nine children who had been born to Joseph in Egypt, the members of Jacob’s family, which went to Egypt, were seventy*46:27 Hebrew (see also Exodus 1:5 and note); Septuagint (see also Acts 7:14) seventy-five in all.

28 Now Jacob sent Judah ahead of him to Joseph to get directions to Goshen. When they arrived in the region of Goshen, 29 Joseph had his chariot made ready and went to Goshen to meet his father Israel. As soon as Joseph appeared before him, he threw his arms around his father*46:29 Hebrew around him and wept for a long time.

30 Israel said to Joseph, "Now I am ready to die, since I have seen for myself that you are still alive."

31 Then Joseph said to his brothers and to his father’s household, "I will go up and speak to Pharaoh and will say to him, ‘My brothers and my father’s household, who were living in the land of Canaan, have come to me. 32 The men are shepherds; they tend livestock, and they have brought along their flocks and herds and everything they own.’ 33 When Pharaoh calls you in and asks, ‘What is your occupation?’ 34 you should answer, ‘Your servants have tended livestock from our boyhood on, just as our fathers did.’ Then you will be allowed to settle in the region of Goshen, for all shepherds are detestable to the Egyptians."

Jacó emigra para o Egito

1 Israel partiu com tudo o que lhe pertencia. Ao chegar a Berseba, ofereceu sacrifícios ao Deus de Isaque, o seu pai. 2 À noite, Deus falou a Israel por meio de visões:

— Jacó! Jacó!

— Aqui estou — ele respondeu.

3 — Eu sou Deus, o Deus do seu pai — disse a ele. — Não tenha medo de descer para o Egito, porque lá farei de você uma grande nação. 4 Eu mesmo descerei ao Egito com você e certamente o trarei de volta. Além disso, a mão de José fechará os seus olhos.

5 Então, Jacó partiu de Berseba. Os filhos de Israel levaram Jacó, o seu pai, as suas crianças e as suas mulheres nas carruagens que o faraó tinha enviado para transportá-los. 6 Também levaram os seus rebanhos e os bens que tinham adquirido em Canaã. Assim, Jacó foi para o Egito com toda a sua descendência. 7 Levou consigo para o Egito os seus filhos, os seus netos, as suas filhas e as suas netas, isto é, todos os seus descendentes.

8 Estes são os nomes dos israelitas, ou seja, de Jacó e dos seus descendentes, que foram para o Egito:

Rúben, o primogênito de Jacó.

9 Estes foram os filhos de Rúben:

Enoque, Palu, Hezrom e Carmi.

10 Estes foram os filhos de Simeão:

Jemuel, Jamim, Oade, Jaquim, Zoar e Saul, filho de uma cananeia.

11 Estes foram os filhos de Levi:

Gérson, Coate e Merari.

12 Estes foram os filhos de Judá:

Er, Onã, Selá, Perez e Zerá. Er e Onã morreram na terra de Canaã.

Estes foram os filhos de Perez:

Hezrom e Hamul.

13 Estes foram os filhos de Issacar:

14 Estes foram os filhos de Zebulom:

Serede, Elom e Jaleel.

15 Foram estes os filhos que Lia deu a Jacó em Padã-Arã,*46.15 Isto é, a região noroeste da Mesopotâmia. além de Diná, a sua filha. Ao todo, os seus descendentes eram trinta e três.

16 Estes foram os filhos de Gade:

Zefom,*46.16 Há manuscritos que trazem Zifiom. Veja Nm 26.15. Hagi, Suni, Esbom, Eri, Arodi e Areli.

17 Estes foram os filhos de Aser:

Imna, Isvá, Isvi e Berias, e a irmã deles, Sera.

Estes foram os filhos de Berias:

Héber e Malquiel.

18 Foram estes os dezesseis descendentes que Zilpa, serva que Labão tinha dado à sua filha Lia, deu a Jacó.

19 Estes foram os filhos de Raquel, mulher de Jacó:

José e Benjamim.

20 Azenate, filha de Potífera, sacerdote de Om,*46.20 Isto é, Heliópolis. deu dois filhos a José no Egito: Manassés e Efraim.

21 Estes foram os filhos de Benjamim:

Belá, Bequer, Asbel, Gera, Naamã, Eí, Rôs, Mupim, Hupim e Arde.

22 Foram estes os catorze descendentes que Raquel deu a Jacó.

23 O filho de Dã foi

Husim.

24 Estes foram os filhos de Naftali:

Jazeel, Guni, Jezer e Silém.

25 Foram estes os sete descendentes que Bila, serva que Labão tinha dado à sua filha Raquel, deu a Jacó.

26 Todos os que foram para o Egito com Jacó, todos os seus descendentes, sem contar as mulheres dos seus filhos, totalizaram sessenta e seis pessoas. 27 Com os dois filhos*46.27 A Septuaginta traz os nove filhos. que nasceram a José no Egito, os membros da família de Jacó que foram para o Egito chegaram a setenta.*46.27 Conforme o Texto Massorético. 28 Ora, Jacó enviou Judá à frente dele para ir até José, a fim de saber como ir a Gósen. Quando lá chegaram, José, 29 com a carruagem pronta, foi a Gósen a fim de encontrar-se com Israel, o seu pai. Assim que o viu, lançou-se ao seu encontro e, abraçado a ele, chorou longamente.

30 Israel disse a José:

— Agora já posso morrer, pois vi o seu rosto e sei que você ainda está vivo.

31 Então, José disse aos seus irmãos e a toda a família do seu pai:

— Vou partir e informar o faraó de que os meus irmãos e toda a família do meu pai, que viviam em Canaã, vieram para ficar comigo. 32 Direi que os homens são pastores de rebanhos e que trouxeram consigo as suas ovelhas, os seus bois e tudo quanto lhes pertence. 33 Quando o faraó mandar chamá-los e perguntar: "Em que vocês trabalham?", 34 respondam-lhe: "Os teus servos criam rebanhos desde pequenos, como o fizeram os nossos antepassados". Assim lhes será permitido habitar na região de Gósen, pois todos os pastores são detestáveis para os egípcios.
