Genesis 6

Wickedness in the World

1 When human beings began to increase in number on the earth and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of humans were beautiful, and they married any of them they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, "My Spirit will not contend with*6:3 Or My spirit will not remain in humans forever, for they are mortal*6:3 Or corrupt; their days will be a hundred and twenty years."

4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days—and also afterward—when the sons of God went to the daughters of humans and had children by them. They were the heroes of old, men of renown.

5 The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. 6 The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. 7 So the Lord said, "I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them." 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.

Noah and the Flood

9 This is the account of Noah and his family.

Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. 10 Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.

11 Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. 12 God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. 13 So God said to Noah, "I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. 14 So make yourself an ark of cypress*6:14 The meaning of the Hebrew for this word is uncertain. wood; make rooms in it and coat it with pitch inside and out. 15 This is how you are to build it: The ark is to be three hundred cubits long, fifty cubits wide and thirty cubits high.*6:15 That is, about 450 feet long, 75 feet wide and 45 feet high or about 135 meters long, 23 meters wide and 14 meters high16 Make a roof for it, leaving below the roof an opening one cubit*6:16 That is, about 18 inches or about 45 centimeters high all around.*6:16 The meaning of the Hebrew for this clause is uncertain. Put a door in the side of the ark and make lower, middle and upper decks. 17 I am going to bring floodwaters on the earth to destroy all life under the heavens, every creature that has the breath of life in it. Everything on earth will perish. 18 But I will establish my covenant with you, and you will enter the ark—you and your sons and your wife and your sons’ wives with you. 19 You are to bring into the ark two of all living creatures, male and female, to keep them alive with you. 20 Two of every kind of bird, of every kind of animal and of every kind of creature that moves along the ground will come to you to be kept alive. 21 You are to take every kind of food that is to be eaten and store it away as food for you and for them."

22 Noah did everything just as God commanded him.

A corrupção da humanidade

1 Quando os seres humanos começaram a multiplicar-se sobre a face da terra e lhes nasceram filhas, 2 os filhos de Deus viram que as filhas dos seres humanos eram bonitas e, dentre elas, tomaram por mulheres as que eles desejaram. 3 Então, o Senhor disse:

— O meu Espírito não permanecerá no ser humano para sempre, pois este é carne; ele só viverá cento e vinte anos.

4 Naqueles dias, e também posteriormente, havia nefilins*6.4 Possivelmente gigantes ou homens poderosos. Veja Nm 13.33. na terra, quando os filhos de Deus tiveram relações sexuais com as filhas dos seres humanos e estas lhes deram filhos. Estes foram os poderosos guerreiros do passado, homens famosos.

5 O Senhor viu quão grande era a maldade do ser humano na terra e que toda inclinação dos pensamentos do seu coração era para o mal o tempo todo. 6 Então, o Senhor se arrependeu de ter feito o ser humano sobre a terra, e isso lhe cortou o coração. 7 O Senhor disse:

— Eliminarei da face da terra o ser humano que criei — e com ele também os animais de rebanho, os animais rastejantes e as aves do céu —, pois me arrependo de havê-los feito.

8 Noé, porém, encontrou favor aos olhos do Senhor.

Noé e o dilúvio

9 Este é o registro dos descendentes*6.9 Hebraico: Estas são as gerações. de Noé:

Noé era homem justo e íntegro entre as pessoas da sua geração; ele andava com Deus. 10 Noé gerou três filhos: Sem, Cam e Jafé.

11 A terra estava corrompida diante de Deus e cheia de violência. 12 Deus viu a terra e, sim, estava corrompida, pois todo ser vivo tinha se corrompido em seus caminhos. 13 Deus disse a Noé:

— Darei fim a todos os seres vivos, porque a terra se encheu de violência por causa deles. Eu os destruirei com a terra. 14 Faça para você uma arca de madeira de cipreste;*6.14 O significado desse termo em hebraico é incerto. divida-a em compartimentos e revista-a de piche por dentro e por fora. 15 É assim que você a fará: trezentos côvados de comprimento por cinquenta côvados de largura e trinta côvados de altura.*6.15 Isto é, cerca de 135 metros de comprimento por 22,5 metros de largura e 13,5 metros de altura.16 Faça a cobertura com um vão de um côvado*6.16 Isto é, cerca de 45 centímetros. 17 — Eis que vou trazer águas sobre a terra, o dilúvio, para destruir debaixo do céu todo ser vivo que tem fôlego de vida. Tudo o que há na terra perecerá. 18 Contudo, estabelecerei a minha aliança com você, de forma que você entrará na arca — você e os seus filhos, a sua mulher e as mulheres dos seus filhos. 19 De todos os seres vivos, você trará para a arca um casal, um macho e uma fêmea, para conservá-los vivos com você. 20 De cada espécie de ave, de cada espécie de animal de rebanho e de cada espécie de animal rastejante da terra virá um casal a você para que sejam conservados vivos. 21 Você deve recolher e armazenar todo tipo de alimento para que você e eles tenham mantimento.

22 Noé fez tudo como Deus lhe tinha ordenado.
