1 »You will have trouble Ariel. The years go by, year after year in Ariel the city where David camped! Jerusalem You celebrate your festivals on schedule.2 »I will still make you suffer Ariel. Your people will cry and mourn when I make you like the lion of God, Jerusalem. Ariel is symbolic name for Jerusalem.3 »I will surround you with a military blockade and attack you from all sides.4 »From deep in the earth, you will call out for help. Your voice will sound like a mumble indistinct voice from out of the dust. It will be faint like a whisper.5 »Your cruel enemies will be swept away like dust in a windstorm. It will be sudden and unexpected like chaff in the wind.6 »Jehovah of Hosts will visit you with a thundering earthquake. A huge whirlwind will bring loud noise and a devouring fire.«7 The multitude of all the nations that fight against Ariel Jerusalem will be like a bad dream, a vision in the night. Many will fight against her and bring distress to her.8 It will be like a hungry man who dreams that he eats. But when he awakes he is empty and still hungry! It will also be like a thirsty man who dreams that he drinks. When he awakes he is thirsty and weak and hungry. The multitude of nations that fight against Mount Zion will be like this.9 Stand still and wonder. Refuse to see and be blind. Get drunk and stagger, but not from wine.10 Jehovah has made you drowsy. He shut your eyes in a deep sleep you prophets and visionaries. He overwhelmed your leaders.11 His message is like a sealed book to you. You say to someone read this out loud. And they respond, »We cannot read it, because it is sealed.«12 The illiterate say: »We cannot read it because we do not know how to read.«13 »These people praise me with their words,« said Jehovah, »but they never draw near to me in their hearts deepest thoughts. Their reverence for me comes from the repetitious tradition of men.14 »I will do things that shock and amaze them. I will destroy the wisdom of those who claim to know and understand discern.«15 You are in for trouble, if you try to hide your plans from Jehovah! You think what you do in the dark cannot be seen. So you ask: »Who sees us, who knows us?«16 You have it all backwards. A clay dish does not say to the potter, »You did not make me.« And should the one made say to the maker, »You do not understand?«17 Soon the forest of Lebanon will become a fertile field thick with trees.18 The deaf will be able to hear the words of the book read to them. The blind will be freed from gloom and darkness.19 The meek, the poor, and the needy will celebrate and shout because of Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel.20 All who are cruel and arrogant will be extinguished. Those who live by crime will be removed.21 God will destroy those who slander others. He will destroy those who prevent the punishment of criminals and those who tell lies to keep honest people from getting justice.22 Jehovah said to the house of Jacob: »I am the God of Israel, who rescued Abraham from trouble. My people will not be disgraced any longer. You will no longer be filled with shame.23 »When you see the children that I will give you, then you will acknowledge and sanctify my name. I am the Holy God of Israel! You will honor me and stand in awe of me.24 »People who stray will learn to understand. Those who always grumble will be glad to be taught.«

1 Ah! Ariel, Ariel, cidade onde Davi acampou! Acrescentai ano a ano; completem as festas o seu ciclo.2 Então porei Ariel em aperto, e haverá pranto e lamentação; e ela será para mim como Ariel.3 Acamparei contra ti em redor, e te sitiarei com baluartes, e levantarei tranqueiras contra ti.4 Então serás abatida, falarás de debaixo da terra, e a tua fala desde o pó sairá fraca; e será a tua voz debaixo da terra, como a dum necromante, e a tua fala assobiará desde o pó.5 E a multidão dos teus inimigos será como o pó miúdo, e a multidão dos terríveis como a pragana que passa; e isso acontecerá num momento, repentinamente.6 Da parte do Senhor dos exércitos será ela visitada com trovões, e com terremotos, e grande ruído, como tufão, e tempestade, e labareda de fogo consumidor.7 E como o sonho e uma visão de noite será a multidão de todas as nações que hão de pelejar contra Ariel, sim a multidão de todos os que pelejarem contra ela e contra a sua fortaleza e a puserem em aperto.8 Será também como o faminto que sonha que está a comer, mas, acordando, sente-se vazio; ou como o sedento que sonha que está a beber, mas, acordando, desfalecido se acha, e ainda com sede; assim será a multidão de todas as nações que pelejarem contra o monte Sião.9 Pasmai, e maravilhai-vos; cegai-vos e ficai cegos; bêbedos estão, mas não de vinho, andam cambaleando, mas não de bebida forte.10 Porque o Senhor derramou sobre vós um espírito de profundo sono, e fechou os vossos olhos, os profetas; e vendou as vossas cabeças, os videntes.11 Pelo que toda visão vos é como as palavras dum livro selado que se dá ao que sabe ler, dizendo: Ora lê isto; e ele responde: Não posso, porque está selado.12 Ou dá-se o livro ao que não sabe ler, dizendo: Ora lê isto; e ele responde: Não sei ler.13 Por isso o Senhor disse: Pois que este povo se aproxima de mim, e com a sua boca e com os seus lábios me honra, mas tem afastado para longe de mim o seu coração, e o seu temor para comigo consiste em mandamentos de homens, aprendidos de cor;14 portanto eis que continuarei a fazer uma obra maravilhosa com este povo, sim uma obra maravilhosa e um assombro; e a sabedoria dos seus sábios perecerá, e o entendimento dos seus entendidos se esconderá.15 Ai dos que escondem profundamente o seu propósito do Senhor, e fazem as suas obras às escuras, e dizem: Quem nos vê? e quem nos conhece?16 Vós tudo perverteis! Acaso o oleiro há de ser reputado como barro, de modo que a obra diga do seu artífice: Ele não me fez; e o vaso formado diga de quem o formou: Ele não tem entendimento?17 Porventura dentro ainda de muito pouco tempo não se converterá o Líbano em campo fértil? e o campo fértil não se reputará por um bosque?18 Naquele dia os surdos ouvirão as palavras do livro, e dentre a escuridão e dentre as trevas os olhos dos cegos a verão.19 E os mansos terão cada vez mais gozo no Senhor, e os pobres dentre os homens se alegrarão no santo de Israel.20 Porque o opressor é reduzido a nada, e não existe mais o escarnecedor, e todos os que se dão à iniqüidade são desarraigados;21 os que fazem por culpado o homem numa causa, os que armam laços ao que repreende na porta, e os que por um nada desviam o justo.22 Portanto o Senhor, que remiu a Abraão, assim diz acerca da casa de Jacó: Jacó não será agora envergonhado, nem agora se descorará a sua face.23 Mas quando virem seus filhos a obra das minhas mãos no meio deles, santificarão o meu nome; sim santificarão ao Santo de Jacó, e temerão ao Deus de Israel.24 E os errados de espírito virão a ter entendimento, e os murmuradores aprenderão instrução.
