1 Jehovah of Hosts, the Almighty RulerSovereign is going to take all support and supply of food and water from Jerusalem and Judah.2 He will take their heroes and soldiers, judges and prophets, fortunetellers and statesmen,3 military leaders and civilian leaders, counselors, skilled workers, and experts in magic.4 I will make boys their leaders. Childish tyrants will govern them.5 People will oppress each other. Everyone will harass his neighbor. The young will tyrannize the old. The common people will taunt their superiors.6 A person will grab one of his relatives from his father's family and say: »You have a coat. You will be our leader. This pile of ruins will be under your control.«7 Then the relative will cry out: »I am not a healer! I do not have any food or a coat in my home. Do not make me a leader of the people.«8 Jerusalem has stumbled, and Judah has fallen, because what they say and what they do is against Jehovah! They are defiant in his honored presence.9 The expression on their faces will be held against them. They boast about their sins! They are like those of the people of Sodom. They do not even bother to hide them. How horrible it will be for these people. They have brought disaster on themselves.10 Tell the righteous that blessings will come to them. They will taste the fruit of their labor.11 How horrible it will be for the wicked! Disaster will strike them. What they have done to others will be done to them.12 Children oppress my people! Women rule over them. O My people! Those who guide you lead you astray. They confuse the direction of your paths.13 Jehovah stands erect to assert his power. He stands to judge the people.14 Jehovah enters into judgment with the elders and princes of his people: »It is you who have devoured the vineyard. The plunder of the poor is in your houses.15 »What do you mean by crushing my people and grinding the face of the poor?« Declares Jehovah of Hosts.16 Jehovah also said: »Because the daughters of Zion are proud and walk with heads held high and seductive eyes, and go along with mincing steps and tinkle the bangles on their feet,17 »Jehovah will cause sores to appear on the heads of the women of Zion. Jehovah will make their foreheads bare.«18 On that day Jehovah will take away their fine things: jingling anklets, headbands, crescent-shaped necklaces,19 pendants, bracelets, scarves,20 hats, ankle bracelets, blouses, perfume boxes, charms,21 signet rings, nose rings,22 fine robes, coats, shawls, purses,23 mirrors, underwear, headdresses, and veils.24 Instead of the smell of perfume, there will be the smell of decay. They will wear ropes instead of belts. They will have baldheads instead of beautiful hair. They will wear sackcloth instead of expensive clothes. Their beauty will be scarred with brand marks.25 Your men will be killed by the sword, in war.26 Her Zions gates will lament and mourn and she will sit on the ground deserted.
1 Porque eis que o Senhor Deus dos exércitos está tirando de Jerusalém e de Judá o bordão e o cajado, isto é, todo o recurso de pão, e todo o recurso de água;2 o valente e o soldado, o juiz e o profeta, o adivinho e o ancião;3 o capitão de cinqüenta e o respeitável, o conselheiro, o artífice hábil e o encantador perito;4 e dar-lhes-ei meninos por príncipes, e crianças governarão sobre eles.5 O povo será oprimido; um será contra o outro, e cada um contra o seu próximo; o menino se atreverá contra o ancião, e o vil contra o nobre.6 Quando alguém pegar de seu irmão na casa de seu pai, dizendo: Tu tens roupa, tu serás o nosso príncipe, e tomarás sob a tua mão esta ruína.7 Naquele dia levantará este a sua voz, dizendo: Não quero ser médico; pois em minha casa não há pão nem roupa; não me haveis de constituir governador sobre o povo.8 Pois Jerusalém tropeçou, e Judá caiu; porque a sua língua e as suas obras são contra o Senhor, para afrontarem a sua gloriosa presença.9 O aspecto do semblante dá testemunho contra eles; e, como Sodoma, publicam os seus pecados sem os disfarçar. Ai da sua alma! porque eles fazem mal a si mesmos.10 Dizei aos justos que bem lhes irá; porque comerão do fruto das suas obras.11 Ai do ímpio! mal lhe irá; pois se lhe fará o que as suas mãos fizeram.12 Quanto ao meu povo, crianças são os seus opressores, e mulheres dominam sobre eles. Ah, povo meu! os que te guiam te enganam, e destroem o caminho das tuas veredas.13 O Senhor levanta-se para pleitear, e põe-se de pé para julgar os povos.14 O Senhor entra em juízo contra os anciãos do seu povo, e contra os seus príncipes; sois vós que consumistes a vinha; o espólio do pobre está em vossas casas.15 Que quereis vós, que esmagais o meu povo e moeis o rosto do pobre? diz o Senhor Deus dos exércitos.16 Diz ainda mais o Senhor: Porquanto as filhas de Sião são altivas, e andam de pescoço emproado, lançando olhares impudentes; e, ao andarem, vão de passos curtos, fazendo tinir os ornamentos dos seus pés;17 o Senhor fará tinhosa a cabeça das filhas de Sião, e o Senhor porá a descoberto a sua nudez.18 Naquele dia tirará o Senhor os seus enfeites: os anéis dos artelhos, as toucas, os colares em forma de meia lua,19 os pendentes, e os braceletes, e os véus;20 os diademas, as cadeias dos artelhos, os cintos, as caixinhas de perfumes e os amuletos;21 os anéis, e as jóias pendentes do nariz;22 os vestidos de festa, e os mantos, e os xales, e os bolsos;23 os vestidos diáfanos, e as capinhas de linho, e os turbantes, e os véus.24 E será que em lugar de perfume haverá mau cheiro, e por cinto, uma corda; em lugar de encrespadura de cabelos, calvície; e em lugar de veste luxuosa, cinto de cilício; e queimadura em lugar de formosura.25 Teus varões cairão à espada, e teus valentes na guerra.26 E as portas da cidade gemerão e se carpirão e, desolada, ela se sentará no pó.
