1 Se um homem escolhe uma mulher e casa com ela, mas depois quer deixá-la, porque encontrou nela qualquer coisa que lhe desagrade ou seja indecente, dar-lhe-á uma declaração de divórcio; depois de lha entregar pode mandá-la embora. 2 Se ela tornar a casar, 3 e se esse segundo marido também se divorciar dela ou se morrer, 4 o primeiro não poderá casar segunda vez com ela, porque se tornou impura, e tal é abominação perante o Senhor. Ao fazê-lo traria culpa para a terra que o Senhor, vosso Deus, vos dá.

5 Um homem casado recentemente não será mobilizado para a guerra, nem lhe serão dadas responsabilidades especiais; durante um ano inteiro ficará em casa, para que a mulher se alegre na sua companhia.

6 Não será permitido tomar por penhor um moinho, nem sequer uma mó; seria penhorar a própria vida, pois é daquilo que o dono depende para viver.

7 Se alguém raptar um irmão israelita como refém, para com ele negociar ou para o vender como escravo, terá de morrer, para assim se expurgar o mal do vosso meio.

8 Tenham muito cuidado em seguir as indicações do sacerdote nos casos de lepra, pois dei-vos regras e indicações que deverão obedecer à letra. 9 Lembrem-se daquilo que o Senhor, vosso Deus, fez com Miriam, quando vinham do Egito.

10 Se emprestarem alguma coisa a outra pessoa, não poderão entrar em sua casa para se apoderarem do penhor ou reaverem o que emprestaram. 11 Ficarão de fora, e será o dono da casa que trará o que vos pertence. 12 Se o homem for pobre e não puder dar-vos mais do que o próprio cobertor com que se cobre, vocês não podem dormir sob ele. 13 Devolvam-lho logo que se ponha o Sol, para que possa usá-lo durante a noite e abençoar-vos. O Senhor, vosso Deus, tomará isso como um ato de justiça a vosso favor.

14 Nunca oprimam um trabalhador pobre no vosso meio, seja um vosso irmão israelita, seja um estrangeiro vivendo na vossa terra. 15 Paguem-lhe o salário cada dia, antes que o Sol se ponha, pois sendo pobre precisa dele; doutra forma poderá clamar ao Senhor contra vocês e isso será tido em conta como um pecado.

16 Os pais não poderão ser mortos por causa dos pecados dos filhos, nem os filhos pelos dos pais. Cada pessoa morrerá pelos seus próprios crimes.

17 Deverão fazer justiça aos estrangeiros e aos órfãos e nunca aceitar a roupa de uma viúva como penhor duma dívida. 18 Lembrem-se que foram escravos no Egito e que o Senhor, vosso Deus, vos resgatou dali; é por isso que vos dou este mandamento.

19 Se, quando ceifarem a vossa seara, deixarem cair um molho, ou se se tiverem esquecido dele no campo, não voltem atrás para ir buscá-lo. Deixem-no para os estrangeiros, para os órfãos e viúvas; assim o Senhor, vosso Deus, vos abençoará e vos fará prosperar. 20 Da mesma forma, quando sacudirem as oliveiras não insistam em fazê-lo duas vezes; deixem ficar alguma coisa para os estrangeiros, para os órfãos e para as viúvas. 21 O mesmo ainda quanto às uvas das vossas vinhas; não vindimem tudo com exagerado cuidado, mas deixem aquilo que tiver ficado para os estrangeiros, para os órfãos e para as viúvas. 22 Lembrem-se de que foram escravos na terra do Egito e que é por isso que vos dou este mandamento.

5 When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which he hath taken.*24.5 neither…: Heb. not any thing shall pass upon him

6 No man shall take the nether or the upper millstone to pledge: for he taketh a man’s life to pledge.

7 If a man be found stealing any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and maketh merchandise of him, or selleth him; then that thief shall die; and thou shalt put evil away from among you.

8 Take heed in the plague of leprosy, that thou observe diligently, and do according to all that the priests the Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them, so ye shall observe to do. 9 Remember what the LORD thy God did unto Miriam by the way, after that ye were come forth out of Egypt.

10 When thou dost lend thy brother any thing, thou shalt not go into his house to fetch his pledge.*24.10 lend…: Heb. lend the loan of any thing to, etc 11 Thou shalt stand abroad, and the man to whom thou dost lend shall bring out the pledge abroad unto thee. 12 And if the man be poor, thou shalt not sleep with his pledge: 13 In any case thou shalt deliver him the pledge again when the sun goeth down, that he may sleep in his own raiment, and bless thee: and it shall be righteousness unto thee before the LORD thy God.

14 Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates: 15 At his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee.*24.15 setteth…: Heb. lifteth his soul unto it 16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

17 Thou shalt not pervert the judgment of the stranger, nor of the fatherless; nor take a widow’s raiment to pledge: 18 But thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee thence: therefore I command thee to do this thing.

19 When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hands. 20 When thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.*24.20 go…: Heb. bough it after thee 21 When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean it afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.*24.21 afterward: Heb. after thee 22 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt: therefore I command thee to do this thing.
