1 Esta é a bênção que Moisés, o homem de Deus, deu ao povo de Israel, antes de falecer:

2 "O Senhor vem do monte Sinai,

rompeu sobre o seu povo,

como um sol, desde o monte Seir,

resplandeceu no monte Parã,

rodeado por dez milhares dos seus santos anjos,

e com fogo flamejante na mão direita.

3 Como tu amas o teu povo,

os teus santos estão seguros nas tuas mãos!

Eles seguiram as tuas pisadas, ó Senhor,

receberam de ti as tuas diretivas.

4 Moisés deu-nos a Lei,

que é a possessão da assembleia de Jacob.

5 Deus era Rei em Israel*33.5 Ver nota a 32.15. Também no 33.26.,

quando os chefes do povo se reuniram com as tribos de Israel.

6 Que Rúben viva para sempre

e que a sua tribo seja um pequeno povo!"

7 E acerca de Judá Moisés disse:

"Ó Senhor, ouve o grito de Judá,

une-o com Israel!

Com as suas mãos, ele defende a sua causa

e livra-o dos seus inimigos."

8 Então Moisés disse acerca da tribo de Levi:

"Dá a Levi, o teu servo fiel,

o teu urim e tumim*33.8 Urim e tumim eram objectos utilizados para se conhecer a vontade de Deus, por tiragem à sorte. Cf. Êx 28.30; Nm 27.21; 1 Sm 14.41; 28.6; Esd 2.63; Ne 7.65..

Puseste Levi à prova em Massá e em Meribá.

9 Os levitas obedeceram à tua palavra e guardaram a tua aliança.

Foram-te mais leais do que aos seus próprios pais.

Desprezaram os seus parentes

e não fizeram caso dos próprios filhos.

10 Os levitas ensinam a Israel a tua Lei,

e no altar dos holocaustos te oferecem incenso.

11 Ó Senhor, faz os levitas prosperarem,

e aceita o serviço que fazem para ti.

Esmaga os que são seus inimigos,

não deixes que levantem cabeça!"

12 Quanto à tribo de Benjamim, disse Moisés:

"Ele é amado por Deus

e vive em segurança ao seu lado.

Deus o rodeia com amorosa atenção

e o preserva de qualquer dano."

13 Em relação à tribo de José, disse:

"Que a sua terra seja abençoada por Deus

com o orvalho do céu

e também com águas profundas!

14 Que ele seja abençoado

com o melhor daquilo que o Sol faz crescer,

tornando-se cada vez mais rico, mês após mês,

15 com o melhor dos frutos das colinas

e dos eternos outeiros!

16 Que ele seja abençoado com os melhores dons

da terra e da sua plenitude

e com o favor de Deus que apareceu na sarça ardente!

Que todas estas bênçãos venham sobre José,

que é príncipe entre os seus irmãos!

17 Ele é como um boi novo, em toda a sua força e pujança,

as suas pontas são como as de um boi selvagem,

para ferir as nações, seja onde for.

Esta é a minha bênção sobre as dezenas de milhares de Efraim,

sobre os milhares de Manassés."

18 Sobre as tribos de Zebulão e Issacar, disse Moisés:

"Alegra-te, Zebulão, gente do campo, da natureza,

assim como Issacar se alegrará no inteiror das suas tendas!

19 Eles convidarão outros povos para a montanha

para oferecer os sacrifícios estabelecidos.

Explorarão as riquezas do mar

e os tesouros escondidos na areia."

20 Acerca da tribo de Gad, Moisés disse:

"Benditos aqueles que estendem o território de Gad!

Ele agacha-se como uma leoa

e despedaça braços e cabeças.

21 Escolheu o melhor da terra para si mesmo,

porque está destinado a ser um chefe.

Conduziu o povo,

executou a justiça do Senhor

e os seus juízos sobre Israel."

22 Da tribo de Dan, ele disse:

"Dan é como uma cria do leão,

saltando desde Basã!"

23 Da tribo de Naftali, Moisés disse:

"Ó Naftali, vives satisfeito

com todas as bênçãos do Senhor!

A região do lago e a sul deste,

são o teu lar."

24 Da tribo de Aser, disse:

"Aser é abençoado pelos seus filhos

e estimado mais do que todos os seus irmãos;

lava os pés em azeite suavizante.

25 Que sejas protegido com fortes ferrolhos

de ferro e de bronze

e que a tua força seja semelhante à extensão dos teus dias!

26 Não há ninguém como o Deus de Israel!

Ele desce dos céus para te ajudar,

sobre as nuvens, em majestoso esplendor.

27 O Deus eterno é o teu refúgio

e por baixo estão os seus braços eternos.

Ele expulsa os teus inimigos diante de ti;

ele próprio é quem grita: ‘Destrói-os!’

28 E assim Israel habita em segurança,

prosperando numa terra de trigo e de vinho,

com orvalho que cai docemente dos céus.

29 Como és bem-aventurado, ó Israel!

Quem é como tu, um povo salvo pelo Senhor?

Ele é o teu escudo e o teu socorro,

é a tua excelente espada!

Os teus inimigos curvar-se-ão perante ti

e tu calcarás os seus lugares altos!"

6 Let Reuben live, and not die; and let not his men be few.

7 And this is the blessing of Judah: and he said, Hear, LORD, the voice of Judah, and bring him unto his people: let his hands be sufficient for him; and be thou an help to him from his enemies.

8 And of Levi he said, Let thy Thummim and thy Urim be with thy holy one, whom thou didst prove at Massah, and with whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah; 9 Who said unto his father and to his mother, I have not seen him; neither did he acknowledge his brethren, nor knew his own children: for they have observed thy word, and kept thy covenant. 10 They shall teach Jacob thy judgments, and Israel thy law: they shall put incense before thee, and whole burnt sacrifice upon thine altar.*33.10 They shall teach: or, Let them teach*33.10 they shall put: or, let them put*33.10 before…: Heb. at thy nose 11 Bless, LORD, his substance, and accept the work of his hands: smite through the loins of them that rise against him, and of them that hate him, that they rise not again.

12 And of Benjamin he said, The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety by him; and the Lord shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders.

13 And of Joseph he said, Blessed of the LORD be his land, for the precious things of heaven, for the dew, and for the deep that coucheth beneath, 14 And for the precious fruits brought forth by the sun, and for the precious things put forth by the moon,*33.14 put: Heb. thrust*33.14 moon: Heb. moons 15 And for the chief things of the ancient mountains, and for the precious things of the lasting hills, 16 And for the precious things of the earth and fulness thereof, and for the good will of him that dwelt in the bush: let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the top of the head of him that was separated from his brethren. 17 His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh.*33.17 unicorns: Heb. an unicorn

18 And of Zebulun he said, Rejoice, Zebulun, in thy going out; and, Issachar, in thy tents. 19 They shall call the people unto the mountain; there they shall offer sacrifices of righteousness: for they shall suck of the abundance of the seas, and of treasures hid in the sand.

20 And of Gad he said, Blessed be he that enlargeth Gad: he dwelleth as a lion, and teareth the arm with the crown of the head. 21 And he provided the first part for himself, because there, in a portion of the lawgiver, was he seated; and he came with the heads of the people, he executed the justice of the LORD, and his judgments with Israel.*33.21 seated: Heb. cieled

22 And of Dan he said, Dan is a lion’s whelp: he shall leap from Bashan.

23 And of Naphtali he said, O Naphtali, satisfied with favour, and full with the blessing of the LORD: possess thou the west and the south.

24 And of Asher he said, Let Asher be blessed with children; let him be acceptable to his brethren, and let him dip his foot in oil. 25 Thy shoes shall be iron and brass; and as thy days, so shall thy strength be.*33.25 Thy shoes: or, Under thy shoes

26 There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the heaven in thy help, and in his excellency on the sky. 27 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them. 28 Israel then shall dwell in safety alone: the fountain of Jacob shall be upon a land of corn and wine; also his heavens shall drop down dew. 29 Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places.*33.29 found…: or, subdued
