1 Estas são as mensagens que o Senhor dirigiu a Oséias (filho de Beeri) durante os reinados dos seguintes quatro reis de Judá: Uzias, Jotão, Acaz e Ezequias; e também no tempo do reinado de Jeroboão (filho de Jeoás), rei de Israel.2 Foi esta a primeira mensagem: Disse o Senhor a Oséias: Casa-te com uma rapariga que seja uma prostituta, de forma que alguns dos filhos que ela tiver sejam de outros homens. Isto ilustrará a forma infiel como o meu povo se tem conduzido para comigo, cometendo abertamente adultério contra mim ao adorarem outros deuses.3 Então Oséias casou com Gomer (filha de Diblaim), e ela concebeu e deu à luz um filho.4 O Senhor falou-lhe assim: Põe-lhe o nome de Jezreel, porque no vale de Jezreel em breve castigarei a dinastia do rei Jeú, por causa dos assassínios que cometeu ; na verdade, em breve porei fim a Israel como reino independente, quebrando o poder da nação, nesse vale de Jezreel.6 Gomer tornou a conceber e teve outro filho - uma rapariga. Deus disse a Oséias: Põe-lhe o nome de Lo-Ruama (que quer dizer: sem misericórdia), porque não terei mais misericórdia de Israel para lhe perdoar outra vez.7 Contudo, da tribo de Judá, sim, terei misericórdia. Eu próprio a libertarei dos seus inimigos, sem intervenção nem de exército nem de armas.8 Depois de ter desmamado Lo-Ruama, Gomer teve outro filho - um rapaz, de novo. E Deus mandou: Chama-lhe Lo-Ami (que quer dizer: não meu), porque Israel não me pertence e eu não sou o seu Deus.10 Todavia, há-de vir o tempo em que Israel se tornará uma grande e próspera nação. Nessa altura o seu povo será demasiado numeroso para se poder contar - será como a areia do mar! E então, em vez de lhes dizer: 'Não são meu povo11 O povo de Israel e o de Judá unir-se-ão sob um único líder. Regressarão juntos do exílio. Que grande dia será esse, em que Deus plantará novamente o seu povo no fértil solo da sua própria terra.

1 The word of the LORD that came to Hosea, the son of Beeri, in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash, king of Israel.2 The beginning of the word of the LORD by Hosea. And the LORD said to Hosea, Go take to thee a wife addicted to lewdness and children of lewdness; for the land hath committed great lewdness, departing from the LORD.3 So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; who conceived, and bore him a son.4 And the LORD said to him, Call his name Jezreel; for yet a little while, and I will avenge the blood of Jezreel upon the house of Jehu, and will cause to cease the kingdom of the house of Israel.5 And it shall come to pass at that day, that I will break the bow of Israel in the valley of Jezreel.6 And she conceived again, and bore a daughter. And God said to him, Call her name Lo-ruhamah: for I will no more have mercy upon the house of Israel; but I will utterly take them away.7 But I will have mercy upon the house of Judah, and will save them by the LORD their God, and will not save them by bow, nor by sword, nor by battle, by horses, nor by horsemen.8 Now when she had weaned Lo-ruhamah, she conceived, and bore a son.9 Then said God, Call his name Lo-ammi: for ye are not my people, and I will not be your God.10 Yet the number of the children of Israel shall be as the sand of the sea, which cannot be measured nor numbered; and it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said to them, Ye are not my people, there it shall be said to them, Ye are the sons of the living God.11 Then shall the children of Judah and the children of Israel be assembled, and appoint themselves one head, and they shall come up from the land: for great shall be the day of Jezreel.
